What is the Speed Rating for Kenda KR25 ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire
Published 04/02/2015 >
Question:
is there a speed restriction on this tire i.e. 45 mph? im looking to replace 8inch trailer tires that are rated for 300lbs each, but can only go 45mph per manufacturer recommendation. I need something that can go at least 70 safely, and if an increased load rating is a result, thats fine...

Kenda ST145R12 trailer tire # AM31208 is rated for 65 miles per hour. I do not recommend doing 70 miles per hour when towing a trailer if for no other reason other than the tires are not rated for it. What will happen is that the higher sustained speed will produce excessive heat. Heat is the number 1 enemy of tires.
What can make this even worse is that trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall compared to passenger vehicle tires. If under inflated the thicker sidewall will produce excessive heat as well, even within the speed rating. Always inflate trailer tires to the maximum psi indicated on the tire.
