Front Axle Suspension Enhancement for Thor Hurricane Class A Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis

Published 02/19/2015

Question:

I have a 2011 Hurricane Model 30Q that rides rough on rough roads fine on smooth ones. Will sumo springs on the front soften my ride on rough roads or do you recommend something else? Thanks.

To soften road bumps in your 2011 Thor Hurricane Class A Motorhome I suggest an air bag kit. An air bag will do a better job than simple rubber jounce spring at absorbing road shocks before they can reach the Ford F-53 chassis on which the Hurricane is built.

We have a hybrid front-axle kit from Air Lift, part # AL88240, that uses springs that have BOTH an adjustable air cushion AND an internal bumper. This feature gives you a fail-safe spring in the event the bags were out of air, yet the adjustability of the air springs means you can tune the system while you drive for best ride quality as you move from one road surface to another.

Adjustment while on the road will require you to include a compressor system such as their WirelessONE Compressor System # AL25980. This is a single-path system that will inflate and deflate the two air bags at the same time and to the same pressure. Both the air bag and compressor are made in the USA. The air bags carry a lifetime warranty and the compressor system a two-year warranty.
