Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies and some interior paneling to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because your vehicle runs on a multiplex wiring system, the wiring needs to be converted to be compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installed this on our 2023 Sportage LX hybrid. Install overall was pretty smooth - just watch some videos and take your time. Running a long the bottom of the car wasn't too bad. I had done this one before with our Sienna minivan and this one was easier just by having a few extra inches of clearance. A lot of the install videos will suggests places to run the wires, but I found this one overall to be easier than our van. Hooking it into the battery was weird because the hybrid hookups were different from a normal battery. I ran it to the post at the front of the fuse box and that's been working great. It was a tight fit since the plastic cover doesn't leave much space there. In the back I mounted it to a little bracket on the hitch receiver. On our van I just left it loose in the back of the car and I like the mounted solution MUCH better. Overall, no problems with this kit and no issues during install.

This is the correct product for a 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid EX. Install was similar to the video for the Curt kit, but this one has correct-length wires to the right light (so you don't have to splice in extra wire, as shown on the video). Also, when you get the power wire up to the engine - there is no 12V battery - you are going into the fuse box - there is a positive pole in there (with a bolt that's pretty similar to what's shown on the video). Final bit of advice is to take out the two forward-most bolts on that ~5-foot cover that runs from the front wheels to the back wheels under the driver's side (you need it loose so you can bend it down in the front & feed your wire-puller through to the back; you need a 10 mm socket).

@Chuck That is great to hear, and I really like the information you put into your previous review. It may not be aid but you are also helping lots out there with that information. How often would you say you are towing with your vehicle?

Nice kit, worth the extra cost to have all the plug and play connectors for the lights. Running the power wire takes a bit of time but we’ll worth it for properly functioning lights. I added shrink wrap on the supplied connectors to eliminate any issues years down the road.

It sounds like you have a ground problem. Make sure the white ground wire is securely attached to clean bare metal on the vehicle chassis. Also, check all the grounds on the trailer, including the main ground on the trailer frame and the ground for each trailer lamp.

Nice wiring harness with good instructions which made for clean and easy installation

At first I received a kit for my KIA Sportage that I would have to splice into my taillight wiring. I returned it for wiring I could just plug into the tail lights. The kit worked perfectly. The hardest part was removing the taillights from the car.

Mr Race was the best really knowledgeable super helpful.

Easy to install but still have to run a wire up to the front of the vehicle

by:

This kit fit perfectly and works fine. The install was pretty straight forward and did not take too long. I have a plug-in hybrid, so the battery pictures didn't match my car, but it was easy to get around it.

  • Troubleshooting Non-Working Light Signals After Installing A Curt Tail Light Converter Wire Harness
Hey Larry, A faulty ground can cause all sorts of goofy problems so it's a great place to start your troubleshooting. I'd check the ground for the tail light converter # C56196 as well as the ground for the lights. Are the lights on the trailer LED? If so you'll need to install resistors # TK32VR for each circuit for this converter to be compatible. From there you can doublecheck that you have the wires connected to the appropriate tail light wiring on the towing vehicle to ensure the...

  • Bike Rack Is Triggering Backup Sensors On 2024 Kia Sportage - Will Wiring Harness Resolve This?
Hello Brian, thanks for reaching out. The Tekonsha T-One # TK32VR is for all models of the 2024 Kia Sportage, and this includes the Hybrid model. That said, it is common for backup sensors to go off when you have a bike rack installed. The wiring harness can be used to help resolve this, but you will have to have something plugged in to the 4-way for the vehicle to recognize the trailer. If nothing is plugged in to the 4-way, the vehicle will not detect a trailer and the sensors will continue...

  • Can 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid Tow 1,400 lb Jet Ski Trailer
Hey Diego, yes the Curt hitch part # C94WR that fits your 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid would be able to tow a trailer that weighs 1,400 lbs like you are looking for. This hitch has a capacity of 3,500 lbs and it looks like your vehicle is rated for up to 1,653 lb. For trailer wiring you'd want the Tekonsha kit part # TK32VR as it's very easy to install and also has the most reliable converter box of the kits available.

  • Do You Have a Wiring Harness for a 2026 Kia Sportage?
Hey Cody, congrats on the new SUV. I've got the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # C59236 that is universal so it will fit your 2026 Kia Sportage. It has to be spliced into your existing wiring but it will provide you with a 4-way connector to control your trailer or accessory's lighting functions. The second option I have is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C99DR that fit the 2025 Kia Sportage. This custom-fit T-connector plugs...

  • Where Does T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Hot Lead Connect on 2025 Kia Sportage Hybrid EX
Hey Les! We have not had the chance to install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK32VR on a 2025 Kia Sportage Hybrid yet. However, I can confirm it will fit. Also, your question about the power wire is pretty common for hybrid vehicles. You can run the power wire to the 12V terminal you referenced (probably the easiest way to do it) or directly to the battery under the seat. Will you be using the wiring for a trailer or for an accessory with lights?

  • Curt or Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2023 Kia Sportage
Hey Greg, generally speaking the Tekonsha trailer wiring harnesses like the part # TK32VR are the most reliable and the better option so that is what I would go with on your 2023 Kia Sportage. This also has the higher amperage rating at 7.5 amps per circuit vs. the Curt which is rated for 6 amps per circuit. These kits are designed with circuit protection built in so you shouldn't have to worry about anything happening to your vehicle. If there's a short on the trailer wiring the converter...

The etrailer hitch part # e38KR is a great option for your 2024 Kia Sportage. I like it because it has the best towing capacities, is mostly hidden, and installs easily. For trailer wiring the Tekonsha kit part # TK32VR is the best option. It installs easily and has the most reliable converter box.

These hitches are identical with the exception that the etrailer hitch has a matte black powder coat finish that offers superior rust protection. Both hitches are made in the USA. • Recommended Trailer Hitch For A 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid EX And SX-Prestige
A trailer hitch will have it's own capacity because it's what the metal is rated to withstand, this however does not increase the capacity of the vehicle itself. You'll need to look at the owner's manual for the specific model of the vehicle to find what the vehicle's capacity is and stay under whichever is lowest between the vehicle and the hitch. Going over the capacity of the vehicle can cause damage to the transmission and be quite costly. For a 2023 Kia Sportage I recommend going...

Hey Robin, Both the Curt # C99DR and Tekonsha # TK32VR have the same fitments, our team that enters in all of this data to our Fitguide just hasn't gotten to the Curt harness yet. I will say that in terms of quality Tekonsha has been known to be superior, but they've gone through some organizational changes that have made getting parts from them harder so a lot of their harnesses are typically out of stock a lot of the time. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK32VR uses factory style connectors which will connect directly in line of your tail lights. This removes the need to splice into the factory wiring.
