How To Mount Trailer Wiring Harness Connectors To A Trailer Hitch With No Wiring Mounting Brackets

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/15/2024

Question:

Hi: I am deciding between the Curtis and the draw-tite trailer hitches for my 2024 Kia Sportage hybrid. I lean toward the Curtis But the draw-tite has the electrical plug bracket welded on giving stability to the mounting. How/where would I mount the plug receptacle stable if I went with the Curtis?

Hi Carolyn,

I typically use a no-drill mounting bracket like the # 18140 (short) or # 18136 (long) depending on how the hitch sits with the fascia. With how these sit on the Sportage you'd probably be able to go with a short bracket and just mount it to the bottom of the Curt # C94WR's crosstube to clear the fascia. You'd then bolt a 4-pole connector bracket # 18144 to other bracket to hold the trailer harness connector.

If you go with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT22MR you would only need the # 18144 mounting bracket to hold your wiring.

Hi Carolyn, how did things go with mounting the plug receptacle on your Sportage when you chose between the Curt and Draw-Tite hitches? Your update could make it easier for the next person deciding on a similar setup.
