We bought this Kayak rack for my mom to put on her 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee so her and my dad could haul their kayaks easier. The mounting hardware was a little tricky at first but once we figured it out, it wasn't bad at all. It holds the kayaks in place nicely. Had no issues with them getting loose or moving around. Seems to be built well and they're very happy with it so far.
Hardest part was figuring out the tie down knots. Had to google how. But it already made the 4hour trip up north! Ready for kayaking and some gardening! Have a great weekend!
High quality materials, great design and the directions to install were excellent. The design of the product is great, I can now carry both of my kayaks on my car. And I have the advantage of carrying them two different ways. I love this pro
This is a really well-made, quality product. The top surface feels somewhat squishy like it will provide cushioning to the board(s) held onto it or to the kayaks. It shipped very quickly from e-trailer and arrived in pristine condition. The layout and packaging is gorgeous as well. I do wish there was an option for over-packaging to conceal the contents but to their credit the delivery person did put it out of the line of sight on my porch. I would definitely buy from here again.
Very adequate but a bit awkward to attach and load kayaks. Using with a low profile Rhino Rack, I was able to attach, load and carry 1-10’ and 1-12’ Eddyline kayak and travel over 1000 miles this past spring without incident.
Love etrailer and the new Thule Compass! Just what I need to fit two kayaks on my roof, next to my 18ft old town canoe. Solid construction and easy install (less than 20 min).
Although I believe Thule is at the top of the carrier field, it seemed like this product is mostly plastic especially in places where stress and pressure could cause cracking like the knobs for righting the middle rack, and the grooves where the middle rack can be moved to. I’ve had a Thule rack in the past and these areas did crack and made adjusting them difficult. For the price we pay, the materials should be more durable.
It's mostly a good design, sturdy, and easy to use. Unfortunately, it's a little impractical if you plan to use it for 2 kayaks. In the 2-kayak setup, it will need to be mounted in the middle of the roof and this makes it challenging to reach the kayaks -- especially on taller vehicles like SUVs without two people and strong shoulders.
It's probably more suitable on sedans or lower vehicles like many Subarus.
Great product and quality. A little bit noisy when no kayak on board and no worry about the kayak really secured with all straps come with it. Loved it and enjoyed it.
I downloaded the Install Guide from Thule and watched the video one etrailer.com prior to buying.
Everything was spot on!

Thule makes outstanding products. This is not the first Item I purchased. Excellent hardware and easy to assemble. We have two kayaks and look forward to warmer weather.

Not providing the "T" slot mounting of the Aero bars brought my rating down a star. It sort of misses the point when used with integrated mounting style bars. Otherwise solid product.

Wry disappointed in such an expensive rack and kayak carrier. It is extremely difficult to reach the carrier to place two kayaks. We are very uncomfortable transporting the kayaks for longer and highway travel. I would not recommend these to others. We likely will purchase something other in the future. I’d rather put the kayak in a car or pickup truck that they would fit in.

I am sorry to hear that you do not like the Thule Compass system. Depending on how many kayaks you are transporting, you might like a single kayak carrier more where the kayak lays flat versus on the side. I have a few in mind for you like part # LR88FR or part # Y04083-2.
I have not installed them yet but have taken them out of the box. They feel heavy duty and is a good upgrade for what I have now!

My parents have had their kayak rack for about a year now. They take it off the Jeep most of the time, then put it on when they need to use it. The mounting system is simple enough that its not a big deal. It works out just fine that way. Theyre still happy with it. It made a good gift.
