Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs and Hardware for 2022 Forest River Platinum 179DBKX
Hey Michael! I can definitely help you find replacement leaf springs and hardware for your travel trailer. However, we will need some more information to get the right parts. For the leaf springs, I need to know your axle capacity, as well as the length. Measuring the flat length is the most accurate, see the attached picture. For hardware I'm assuming you want new bolts and shackle straps. I highly recommend using a wet bolt kit for more durable parts so you can avoid any future failure....

  • Replacement Suspension Parts for a 2025 Grand Design 2800BH
Hey Kevin! I tried looking up the parts through Grand Design, but their website is less than helpful when it comes to finding the specs (it's great to find replacement kits though!). I know the MORryde Shock Absorbing Suspension Equalizers # MR27ZR will work because that's the only kit they had listed. The Suspension Kit # MR76ZR will work if your shackles measure 3-1/8" long from center bolt hole to center bolt hole. The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles # e22YR is...

  • Recommended 25-1/4" Long Leaf Springs
Hey Rob! Both the 25-1/4" long item # DX95CR and item # e44SR springs will work if you're replacing a 25-1/4" long leaf spring. They're close enough in capacity so long as you're not using too light of a spring with the 4,400 lbs item # DX95CR. How did you measure your leaf springs to come up with needing a 25-1/4" long one?

  • Recommended Leaf Springs, Shackle Kit, and Wet Bolts for a Trailer w/ 4,400 lbs Axles
Hey Phil! Thanks for getting back to me with those measurements! We have a leaf spring that is an exact replacement but I am guessing it's the pricey one you referenced. It is the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long item # DX95CR. This is a Dexter spring so you're going to pay a bit more for the quality that comes with that name. If you wanted to go a little higher the TruRyde item # TRU25FR for 5,000 lbs axles wouldn't be overkill. Comparing the two though,...

  • Upgraded Leaf Spring to Replace a 25-1/4" Long Dexter 072-078-00
Hey Larry thanks for the information! The Dexter part number you gave me 072-078-00 corresponds to the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long item # DX95CR. To bump up to a heavier duty spring, you'll want the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long item # e34SR.

  • What Leaf Spring do I Need for My Dexter Axle with Weight Rating 4,400 Pounds?
Hello Doug, Great question, and I am happy to make sure we get you into the right leaf spring. Since there is not a real standard for putting trailers together I am going to need a measurement from you. I need you to measure the Leaf Spring as unloaded as possible from eye to eye (please see attached image). Once I get that measurement from you I can recommend the right spring. For example, if your measurement is close to 25 1/4" then you will need the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb...

  • Is 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb Trailer Axles A Single Leaf Spring or Pair of Leaf Springs
Hi Doyle; the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # DX95CR is a single leaf spring. You will need to order a quantity of two to replace both on your axle. All of our leaf springs are sold individually.

  • Adding Electric Drum Brakes To 1999 Ranger Boat Trailer
Hey Rick, thanks for reaching out. We should certainly have the parts you need to put electric brakes on your trailer, but unfortunately there is no way to use the VIN to know exactly what parts you will need. Trailer manufacturers just do not make this info available online. I can still point you in the right direction though. The main things I will need to know is the weight capacity of your axle, and your bearing sizes. The best way to determine this will be to pull a hub and remove...

  • Can 3500 lb Leaf Springs Be Upgraded to Heavier Duty for a 2020 Grand Design Imagine 2400BH
What's up, Chuck? You can definitely use higher-rated springs for your trailer, and for that I recommend checking out the 25-1/4" Long 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb Trailer Axles # DX95CR. Be sure to change out the leaf springs on both sides of the axle so you get the most even ride possible. One other thing to keep in mind is that if you have one side that keeps wearing out prematurely then that could be a sign that you're overloading that one leaf spring and you'll want to move...

  • Solution to Help Keep Tires From Rubbing on 2019 Keystone Cougar on Rough Roads
Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out! The measurements you have are similar to the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400-lb Trailer Axles # DX95CR so it sounds like your leaf springs aren't flattening out as of yet. If you drive on some pretty rough roads with the trailer close to max GVWR then that could definitely be why you're seeing tire marks. I recommend checking out the SumoSprings Jounce Springs for trailers to help soften the bounce from those roads. You'll just need to choose the...
