Today we're going to review part number 814092. This is the Fastenal half inch nylon tube brush. This brush is great for cleaning out well nuts on your vehicle frames when you're installing a hitch, makes that install much easier. We use it here at Etrailer. This nylon brush has a nice metal design, has a loop handle on the end that help you hold it. It does use nylon filled bristles on the brushes.
This used in cleaning and deburring any of the well nut holes. Dimension on this, overall length, to give you an idea, it's going to be 8.5 inches. Just the brush itself, the bristles is 3 inches. The diameter is half an inch on the bristles themselves. Basically, what you'll use this for is you want to start by soaking the well nut bolt holes on the frame of your vehicle with a penetrating lubricant, and then let the lubricant soak in a while. Then you take this nylon wire brush, stick it up into the holes, move it around, and basically that'll scrub out the holes and free any dirt or rust from inside those holes.
It's actually very helpful on any vehicles that have a few years on them. Newer vehicles might not be as bad, because it didn't have time to build up. On some of the older vehicles, it's good to have this clean out anything in those well nut holes. You might have to do it a few times, but it should allow the bolts . You take one of the hardware bolts. Once you get it cleaned out, try it in there, make sure it threads in a lot easier.
It does save you a lot of time, makes the bolt fit more easy. That should do it for the review on part number 814092. This is a Fastenal half inch nylon tube brush.

1/2" Diameter nylon brush is great for cleaning out weld nuts on vehicle frames - makes your hitch installation much easier!I was unable to find a brush like this in the local stores. I use it to clean the threads underneath the car where the bolts to the trailer hitch get installed. Essential tool especially if the car has some years and miles on it. I have used in conjunction with the proper size tap to ensure threads are clear and clean.
It was very easy to install and it met all my expectations. The video on-line was very helpful in understanding the entire process before we bagan instalation. Ashley at etrailer was most helpful in making sure we got the right product for our car. Our plan is to use it exclusively to haul our bicycles around with us as we travel. We will definately look at the bike racks etrailer has to offer as well.
Easy installation, low profile and excellent quality. Exactly what I was looking for in a hitch receiver for our 2021 Pilot.
The whole process from ordering to getting the hitch was awesome. It arrived a lot quicker than I thought it would. I have not been able to install it just yet due to a cold snap in our area. Daytime high of 15 degrees and no garage to work in, makes it too difficult to do it. I am anxious to get it put on the Rav4 . The only minor problem we had was the carton was taped up by UPS due to the hitch breaking out of the carton on one side. The other side did start to a little bit. Would recommend them increase a little more packing material around the square mounting brackets to eliminate that problem. Otherwise, awesome !
Worked great to clean out 1/2" nuts on my car before threading bolts into them.
This is the right size for the threaded mounting holes in the frame. Since I didn't have WD-40 spray, I was able to use my WD-40 pen applicator to wet the brush first - then it worked great! FYI - It was still necessary for me to use a thread tap, as well.
I'm going to be completely honest and review this product from start to finish. Finding the "hidden hitch" online was extremely easy. Their website walks you right through finding the correct one for your vehicle and they have an enormous inventory of everything you could need for towing. I have a 06' Honda Odyssey. The videos were greatly helpful to watch before receiving the hitch so I knew EXACTLY what to do when installing the hitch. I decided to buy one and was genuinely excited to get this thing on our Honda. Their tracking service was accurate and informative, showing me where the package was with a picture of it moving across the states. Package arrived late in the evening (7:45pm) and the box it was in had been completely destroyed. Both ends of the box had to be heavily repaired with packing tape and there were holes, drag marks, etc all over this box. As for the product inside? It had plenty of scrapes, dents, dings, etc. Now this thing is solid steel so I wasn't really concerned about the cosmetic condition of the hitch. Just shows you that UPS does NOT care about your packages, when you receive them and will destroy them. You should package items like they are going into war. Used the spiral brush to clean the threaded holes on the frame of the Honda and used one of the bolts to make sure they would screw in quickly and easily.... they all did. Took 20 minutes to put the hitch on myself (I used a few small boxes to hold the hitch into place under the rear of the odyssey or there abouts until I could put in all the bolts, spacers and washers. The information on the install sheet was easy to follow and had all the vital information, like torque specs. Installing the wiring harness for the trailer was ridiculously easy. I thought it was going to be a hassle, cutting wires, dealing with electrical tape, trying to figure out where wires come and go, etc but it wasn't. I pulled off a panel and then the side panel. The wires literally just PLUG IN to a control box and the ground wire gets bolted (small bolt) to the grounding unit. Then you just run the wire along existing wires, zip tying along the way, feed the wires through to the spare jack compartment for storage. Then I had to just plug in a fuse, provided by them, into the fuse board and I was done. It took me about 1 hour to install the hidden hitch and the wiring harness and be completely tow ready....amazing. Overall quality of materials, wires, product: 10/10. Customer service, instructional videos, installation instructions: 10/10. Timeliness of purchase, shipping and installation: 10/10. Condition box/product was received in: 4/10. I would HIGHLY recommend this product and etrailer.com. It is a SOLID piece, easy to order and install to make your vehicle tow ready. This set up was the easiest thing I have EVER installed on a vehicle, very pleased overall with the end result. Here are a couple pics of the hitch installed and the trailer wiring harness ready to go.
over priced brush that is NOT needed. After reading the installation literature I felt it was needed but I think I was gas lighted into thinking there was a need.
Great product. Used it to clean out some rusted sockets underneath my car to install a trailer hitch. I put it through some heavy use over the last several days and it still looks like new.
This tool helped make installation a snap! However, one could source elsewhere and save.
Just as advertised. Very good product. Easy to install if you follow the instructions provided. It took me about 30 mins to install. You definitely need somebody to hold one side while you bolt in the other. I didn’t need to lift the car to install it. Super easy if you have the right tools.
Fit perfectly. Easy installation.
Holds up well and served it's purpose
This brush is okay, but from personal experience, to get all of the crud and rust out, I used a standard plumbing wire brush tool. The same one you would use on copper tubing or on your car battery. It's an all in one. This cleaned the threads better. See pic.
Brush worked perfectly for cleaning bolt holes in frame.
Seemed like a good product but didn't cut the mustard for cleaning out corroded bolt treads. If your vehicle is older than several years invest in a tap and forget this one. I'm sure I'll find other uses for this brush so I'm not upset I bought it.
Good product, does what it says. My holes were worn and after using this repeatedly and cleaning it properly it finally grabbed on and screwed in.
After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.
Hitch arrived quickly, the box was a little banged up but the hitch was just fine. Installation was a breeze after watching the video instruction. The black and white printed instructions are pretty much useless, better to look at the color version of them in the PDF file on the web site. Top notch products and the service was quick and efficient.
We bought this little brush upon the advice of the trailer hitch "how to" video and I'm glad we did as one of the crud-caps had fallen off our truck's body-frame and it would have been a royal P.I.T.A. to get the crud out before cleaning otherwise. It's super-cheap, so if you're doing it yourself, spend the extra couple of bucks. Bonus ... we've reused it since the install to get crud out of other things, as well.
It's very solid, and supports our bike rack just fine. It was installed on a 2007 Toyota Sienna and I had to take it to our local auto shop because I didn't have a tap and die set to bore out the rusty pre-drilled holes. It does sit a little low, so be careful when backing up near curbs. You'll definitely scrape! Otherwise, very happy with it so far. Oh, and the shop had to adjust our exhaust a little bit because it hit the hitch receiver when we hit bumps.
Product showed up as expected and it actually was delivered earlier than stated at purchase! I appreciate the videos on how to install and use the products on the website - very informative and helpful.
Works fine for dirt and debris, but does not work with nuts that are welded in the frame and have rusted. I would like to see you offer a tool to assist in removing the rust from a nut. I used a rotary tool with a small steel brush but it wasn't ideal, as it was too large.
There was a lot of buildup on my undercarriage when I want to try to install the trailer hitch. This tool cleaned out the mounting holes without any problem and worked as advertised.
Rather easy to install by myself with vehicle parked in driveway without a lift. Had to unhook exhaust hanger to fit the right side up but not a problem at all. Less than an hour in total for install and will be perfect for what I needed. Did have to make run to purchase 22mm socket for torque wrench. Looks good installed.
