Timbren's Active Off-Road Bumpstops provide off-road enthusiasts with greater control over their vehicle's suspension travel. Using progressive-rate springs means that instead of a hard stop at the end of axle travel, the axle energy will be absorbed when bottoming out, producing smooth, predictable, and quiet axle engagement and disengagement. The progressive rubber springs absorb the harsh jolt at the end of axle travel, giving you a gentle ride the whole time.

Unlike your factory bumpstops, Timbren's bumpstops are constructed of a superior natural rubber compound, ensuring the bumpstops will continue to operate even after a lifetime of off-road abuse. And the steel brackets and disks are lazer cut before they are painted with a durable, long-lasting powder coat finish to ensure protection and long life.

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Timbren active off-road bump stops. These are going to be a great addition to your vehicle. If you're planning on taking it off-road, because they're going to be a cushion against your suspension system bottoming out. So what happens is, especially if you're carrying anything in the back of your vehicle, or if you're going over rough terrain .. as your truck comes down, the frame and the axle are going to come together and you can get that bottoming out feel, where it really causes a dip.

So typically for off-road applications, your factory bump stops aren't really up to the challenge. So these are going to be a much beefier, longer lasting bump stop to replace those. They're really easy to get installed. There's no cutting or drilling or welding required. It's just going to use factory hardware to do that.So pretty easy to put these in place, but they're definitely going to be a longer lasting component.

By putting these in there it's also going to help to lengthen the life of your suspension components that you already have, or your OEM suspension, because you're going to have another piece in there to help take up a little bit of that road shock and take some of the brunt of that force. So they work independently side to side. They help to level your vehicle. If you're going over some really tough turns, they each are going to be independent of each other. Something that I like about these springs, as opposed to maybe air springs or something like that, is that they're maintenance free.

You put them in place. You don't have to worry about them again. They're just going to be there for constant support. There's no adjustments to make and no worries about any airlines that can get damaged or cut, especially if you're going to be going off road. You never know what you're going to be driving over, and you don't want to have to worry about those lines getting ripped out or gouged or getting any kind of holes in them. So with these, there's no worries about that.

It's just the springs. You put them in there and you can forget about them, but they should be a nice addition to your truck. These are going to fit the 2019 through the current year model of your Ford Ranger. So they're just using the existing weld nut in your frame of your Ford Ranger. Put the spring with the plate spacer and then the metal washer over the top, and then take one of those bolts, thread it up through there and thread it into the weld nut and your frame. So pretty straightforward. You just need to drop the axle to get access to that. Remove the old bump stop and replace it with these guys. You do get both springs, they have a capacity of 3000 pounds. That doesn't increase the overall payload or the overall weight carrying capacity of your Ford Ranger. It's just there to help to support that amount of weight. They are covered by a lifetime warranty and also a satisfaction guarantee. They should make a nice addition to your vehicle. Definitely going to help to improve that overall ride quality and be a much longer lasting support than your OEM bump stop. So if this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right solution for you, thanks for watching. And we'll see out there on the road.

These do what they're built to do. I overland a lot so when the truck gets weighed down with gear she tends to squat a little and when I go through bumpy areas the factory stops would slam the frame. No any more with these Active Bump Stops. A much smoother ride and less body roll when cornering.

My 100 series 2001 Toyota Land cruiser uses four of these bump stops though the build quality of this product is excellent I am only giving it an average rating because 2 of the metal housing that the rubber sits in widens up at the bottom edge. I had to cut that edge back so that they would not scrape one on each side.

Installation was a breeze! Followed the instructions and lifted the truck up using a jack under my hitch, loosened the u-bolts, removed the factory bump stops and installed the timbrens! Took 5 minutes for each side, and 5 minutes to setup and take down setup. 15 minutes max. Very easy to do. I believe I am going to need a 1” spacer as I have 1.5” Icon add-a-leaf packs in order to get them to engage while towing.

Review from a similar Active Off-Road Bumpstops in Vehicle Suspension

My 2013 4runner was squatting in the rear when I coupled my 6X12 motorcycle trailer. I was very happy to have found the Timbren bump stop to simply bolt on and fix the problem. However.....during the installation I noticed I had to use ALL of the adjustment slot on the unit to TRY to center on the rear axle. I oriented the units as far towards the rear as the adjustment would allow.
When I coupled my trailer to the 4runner it correctly forced the Timbren bump stop to contact the axle and this is where the problem is.
The Timbren bump stop CAN NOT be adjusted far enough towards the rear to accomplish a centering on the axle. There is a 25% overhang of the bump stop on the axle front. When I communicated with Timbren about this they said" it's a good installation and it's ok". It is not ok.
Imagine that all of the force of a fully loaded truck will be negotiating curves, potholes, swoops and other hazards of the road at highway speeds. All of this stress is distributed on 75% of the product. It can't work as well as if it was 100% distribution. I felt the product was overpriced to begin with. After paying a premium price I expected a custom proper fit.
I can't recommend this product for Toyota 4runner owners.

Review from a similar Active Off-Road Bumpstops in Vehicle Suspension

I had these on my Tacoma and liked the way they worked so much that I got a set for my new to me Tundra. You don't notice anything until you put a load on the truck. Then you feel more stable under load and don't have to worry as much about the leaf springs. The install was done in 15 minutes

Comments
I pull a 20 ft car hauler with the Tundra and recently hauled a car to Arizona then hauled another back. The frame just touches the top of the Timbren when loaded. After 3,000 miles of driving I am even more convinced that this is a great product. The truck never squats from trailer load and the Timbren also keeps the ride smooth straight and steady when pulling a load. When unloaded there is about a one inch gap between the frame and the Timbren so it drives like stock when lightly loaded or unloaded.

Easy install, Nissan Xterra. Love that it came with all the hardware because I had to knock all existing hardware out with a hammer and chisel. I used four additional washers I had so I could put one inside the frame and one on the bumpstop mount. Etrailer shipped fast and free, bumpstops arrived ahead of schedule. Highly recommend these mounts, night and day difference.

Works great and is much cheaper and easier to install than air bags or a weight distribution hitch. Highly recommend.

Review from a similar Active Off-Road Bumpstops in Vehicle Suspension

The Timbren bumpstops improved not only the loaded ride of the frontier, they also, imho, helped with the unloaded ride. This was on a 2018 frontier, the factory leaf spring pack is not made for hauling much, or a trailer with any tongue weight over 200#'s.
I had an issue with missing\wrong parts, I called e-trailer, they where wonderful to work with on fixing this issue.

I have a medium-duty truck and recently purchased a camp trailer. Well, when I pulled the trailer home for the first time the back of the truck was weighed down. I installed the new Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops and they improved the load capacity immensely. When I get the cash saved up I plan on purchasing the Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops for the front. Worth every penny.

Great product. They offer progressive dampening and eliminate any harsh bottom outs. They pair very well with extended travel rear shocks. T4R SR5 4x4 with icon 3” overland rear springs and Fox 2.5” DSC shocks.

I had no problems with the installation. It only took about 15 minutes to put these on! There is adjustment space on the brackets to let u be able to center product over rear axles. The pictures below show the product installed while my 4 runner is both raised up for installation and after lowering it down. When lowered down and jack removed I have about an inch clearance.

These bumpstops are excellent! they look better in person than they do in the picture. Because I have a 2" spacer lift on my Frontier Pro4X, I needed to Timbren 1/2" spacers & longer 2" bolts. I tested these under full flex and they work perfectly.

Comments
The front bumpstops required a 12 spacer to compensate for the 2 lift on my truck. These have been working great! Much improved ride quality when suspension bottoms out.

These were a breeze to install with rear of my Frontier Pro4X on ramps. they fit perfectly, and are a drastic improvement over the rock hard rubber factory bump stops.

Comments
The Timbren OffRoad bumpstops have been working great, ride quality is much improved when suspension bottoms out and these are great bumpstops. Intstallation was a breeze.

This product limits travel of the axle when you go over a speed bump or in a dip in the road. They replace the existing snubbers on the frame and extend down to within a half inch of the axle. It was an easy install with the tire removed and the car on jack stands. The replacement bolts go in the existing threaded connections. Start to finish was about 45 mins for me and I am no expert.

Once installed the car has a comfortable ride but speed bumps and pot holes have their bounce affect greatly reduced. I think these will improve my trailer towing future.

Review from a similar Active Off-Road Bumpstops in Vehicle Suspension

Disappointed in this item TABSTOF. They look and feel almost exactly like the factory bump stops, except with a hole drilled in the center. I can't imagine these would make much of any difference in rebound cushioning as there is just not much to them. There is another part which is more appropriate TOFTAC4A, which are larger and would actually have a benefit whether in a standard or lifted suspension.

Review from a similar Active Off-Road Bumpstops in Vehicle Suspension

I threw these on a Toyota Tacoma TRD in hopes of eliminating bottoming out on the suspension and increasing pay load a bit. I use the truck mainly for work around my farm and as my off road machine. I am more than impressed on what the Timbren bump stops delivered. The ride is softer in rough terrain and the truck barely squats when loaded full of feed or piled high with fuel, gear and animals during hunting season.

Have been performing great, completely stopped rear bottoming out when pulling my trailer, a smother ride on ruff dirt roads

Review from a similar Active Off-Road Bumpstops in Vehicle Suspension

I've got a 2019 Tacoma TRD Offroad Double Cab with otherwise stock suspension: Bilsteins and 4 leaf spring in rears. GVWR is 5600lbs and I run it at about 5200lbs with all my racks and add-ons. I've only off roaded a couple times (with even more load) and didn't have any issues bottoming out my stoppers, but I often jarringly hit my stoppers in the streets of San Francisco, most notably heading east on Fulton St at 43rd Ave at a bus stop transition (35 mph speed limit). I was hoping this quick fix would alleviate the problem without stiffening my normal ride. I find the truck, when unladen, is bouncy at highway speeds on concrete roadways (gets a sea sick inducing bounce when the suspension becomes harmonic with the cracks and surface waves), so I didn't want to tighten up the suspension at all.

I got the Timbren Active Offroad bump stops yesterday and it took me just over 30 mins to install with no hassle. There is only a hair gap between the top of the bump pad and the frame when parked. I took it for a test drive through the neighborhood and it felt like it did stiffen the ride a little bit, but had more control over bumps and dips, and less side sway. Then this morning I took it to the fateful Fulton test spot. Boy did it hit hard today. The change in my trays didn't go flying as usual, but I did bottom out the new bump stops with a thud. So their performance was not as great as I had hoped, but it did make it a little better. My expectation may not be reasonable, but I thought its road performance with be better than off road (I guess you go slower off road though). I'll have to see over time and perhaps consider more suspension upgrades. One thing I am curious about is how much bed sag I will have if I'm hauling stone. I've ridden on the stock bump stops with trips from the yard, so although these are not designed for towing or hauling, I'm hoping they will help the sag some. Maybe I can update this in a few weeks.
