The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated or P3-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics Glow light, M1 LED clearance or side marker light. This is an oval trailer light. It's going to feature a nice smooth bright outer band. The light's going to serve as either a side marker light, or a clearance light. It's going to feature a sonically sealed design, so it's got a water-proof housing and lens unit that is submersible. It's a full LED system. LED's make great replacements for incandescent lights.
They last longer, they burn brighter, they're much more efficient. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs, and you don't have to worry about brittle filaments. The unit's going to feature a nice clear lens with amber LEDs. Now, when it comes to the lens in the housing, that's going to be a be a poly-carbonite construction. This is a surface mount installation.
It's going to mount on the surface of the trailer. The installation is going to require a small hole for the wiring to feed through. It's got two mounting locations; hardware is not included. It's going to feature the two-wire pigtail with the 0.18 ml bullets on it; one for power, one for ground. Now, once you have this installed, there is separate piece that can be added to the unit to give it a nice, clean, finished look, that's going to be a chrome bezel. It's snaps over the outer rim, here, of the frame, and that is sold separately.
It's available at eTrailer.com. This is a P2 rated light, it's SAE and Department of Transportation compliant. A few measurements to go over with you real quick, starting with the overall length of the light. Measuring edge to edge, it's going to give us a measurement of about 6 3/8 of an inch. Going this direction, we're looking at about 2 inches. Then the depth, or the thickness, from the back of this plate to the front of the lens is going to be about 3/4 of an inch deep.
The mount holes on the unit, these are separated on center by 4 5/8 of an inch. Now, again it is an LED light, it's going to contain a total of 13 diodes, or 13 LEDs. Then when it comes to the power draw, at 12.8 volts, we're looking at 0.12 amps. We're going to go and hook it up to our external power source, that way you can see what it looks like with power running to it. It does not matter which wire gets connected to ground, and which one gets connected to power. You can see here, that the light sends out a nice consistent signal. The multi-diode design is going to really help optimize the light output. Then you'll notice that it has that nice smooth outer band of LEDs, just really puts off a nice, smooth output of light. Then, in the center there, you got your three main that comes through the clear lens, and distributes the light pretty evenly. That's going to do it for today's look at the Optronics Glow Light, M1 LED clearance or side marker light.
