2012 FordExplorer

This was a perfect fit for my 2012 Explorer. It looks and functions great and the price cannot be beat! eTrailer is a great company; you can tell this by the organization and details on their website. Tracking the package in transit is a breeze and items arrive on time.

The hitch is solid. The moment you take it out of the box, you’ll know you got a great part. I was able to install it myself, though it would have certainly been better to have someone help hold it in position just to get a bolt started on each side. In any case, it does not take long to install. All hardware was included and directions are minimal and straightforward. You’ll need some WD-40 to get the exhaust off its hangers, a strap to support the exhaust while it’s lowered, a socket set, and a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to specs. I did not have a torque wrench that went all the way up to the required torque value, so I ended up purchasing one at the local box store. If you don’t like acquiring tools, you could always ask a neighbor or maybe rent one from the local auto parts store. In any case, with the new wrench, as well as the 4-pole wiring harness and magnetic trailer lights (also purchased from etrailer), I still came out way ahead of what it would have cost to put on a hitch at the dealer. In essence, the $450 bike rack that goes in the hitch receiver and the quality torque wrench ($80) serve as “free” gifts to the family/myself for the DYI installation. Finally, some might want a Ford OEM hitch setup but the curved design of this particular custom hitch looks great. Happy hauling!

I received my new hitch and wiring harness quickly and without issue. The instructions were all clearly written. I would rate my mechanic abilities as moderate and I was able to complete the installation by myself during a Sunday afternoon in my driveway. I had some issues getting some of the old bolts out of the exhaust hangers due to some mild corrosion but nothing some PB Blaster could not solve. I was able to get all the new bolts secured and torqued down to spec easily and then re-hang the exhaust. I was able to pick up my new boat (about 1500lbs) and tow it home without issue.

Part of the hitch was scratch and some of the paint chipped off during shipping but it wasn't enough damage for me to be concerned with it. I also have not finalized where I am going to put the trailer harness plug so that's just zip tied on at the moment.

2015 FordExplorer

I have a 2015 Ford Explorer and bought Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver from etrailer.com on a Thursday afternoon. I paid a little extra to have it arrive by no later than Tuesday. The hitch showed up on Monday evening around 6:00. It took me about 35 minutes to put on. Super easy, and it fit perfectly. The instructions and online videos from the etrailer.com website where very informative and took any reservations about installing it myself out of the picture. The young lady Chris from etrailer was very helpful and told me exactly what I needed. I definitely would recommend etrailer.com and this product to others. Nice Job. I was impressed.

2013 FordExplorer

Installed in about 2 hours by myself. Pro tip. Make sure to use the included wire to feed the carriage bolt into the frame BEFORE you insert the tab. Would have been a 45 minute install if not for that. Super simple. Super beefy kit. Great hardware!

2018 FordExplorer

Excellent ++++++ I received my new hitch for my 2018 Ford Explorer. I You Tubed the install from etrailer, and I literally could have sat back and watch it install itself. What a breeze. The ONLY difficulty I had was lining up the blocks to raise the car up a bit to make the install easier. This is my second hitch from etrailer. Needless to say, I'm 100% satisfied. Great product, fast delivery. Thanks

I will look to order first from etrailer every time!

I like the hitch a lot that I ordered from this company. They have been very helpful with videos to install it and anything else I needed. I would highly recommend anyone to order a trailer hitch from this company if they need one. I have had it for around a year and I have not seen any rust on it. Thank y'all for a good quality trailer hitch :-)

2016FordExplorer

I have a 2016 Explorer that the hitch went on as simple as can be. I think it took longer to grab the few tools needed than it did to install it. I’m going to get one for my daughters vehicle. I didn’t do the wiring because it’s only going to be used for a bike carrier and a little loading platform so can’t say how that would go, but the hitch I’d recommend to any one and everyone.

by:
2017 FordExplorer

Awesome low profile hitch. It looks great on my Ford Explorer! The installation was super easy. I got it installed in about 30 minutes. The only issue I ran into was removing the exhaust brackets from the factory. They were pretty tough to remove. Had to use a cheater bar to get them off. Other than that, the install was super easy. Everything fit perfectly! The install video was dead on. Watched it a couple of times and knew exactly what to do. Again, awesome hitch!

by:
2018 FordExplorer

Perfect hitch for 2018 Ford Explorer. Have used with bike rack as well as cargo carrier. Very discrete as well under the rear bumper.

Quick shipping; extremely easy to install borh the hitch and the electrical connector; both within a half hour installation with two people

by:

Easy to install, worth every penny

by:

Trailer hitch fit perfect, we received it super fast, the price was great, with free shipping!
I use etrailer for all the off brands we get, and even for some dealership cars where the customer wants a heavier class hitch. We've never had any issues, thank you!

by:
2017 FordExplorer

Really like the way the Curt trailer hitch receiver looks on my 2017 Explorer. Class III receiver should be adequate for my 19’ center console boat. Thanks.

by:

The hitch was well made and well designed. The fit was excellent and the installation was easy. I like the fact that it rides up close to the body and has never been a problem dragging on steep driveways. It looks and fits like an OEM hitch.

by:
2011 FordExplorer

I ordered a hitch for my 2011 Ford Explorer and it fit perfectly. The wiring harness and the receiver installed quite easily as well. I couldn't be happier with the service and quality from etrailer on this order.

by:

I hope I was leaving 5 stars, don’t know why they weren’t all on one line. Extremely positive experience with trailer, item in stock, fast shipping, great price and excellent tracking system. I will do business again and I will tell my friends

by:
FordExplorer

This has worked very well for me and installing it myself was not too difficult. It was tricky getting above the mufflers as I have a Ford explorer limited and do not have a car lift. It's worked great since.

by:

Fits great, Thanks

by:

Purchase process was very easy, and installation only took me about an hour, no jack required! Did give me an excuse to buy a torque wrench, though.

by:
2018 FordExplorer

From when I place the order (Curt Trailer Hitch 13386) to when I received it at home I was kept updated. I am very please with the products and prices of etrailer.com. I will always look at etrailer.com, for my truck and suv needs first.

Thanks,

Jorge DLR

etrailor was great! I ordered a class 3 trailer hitch during arrived within a week despite this pandemic. Great quality product and was able to install it myself in 30 minutes this was mostly due to the great video provided on the web site

Hitch install was simple and it looks great. Trailer light wiring kit was wrong. Not the right application for 15 ford explorer.

  • Do Curt and Draw-Tite Hitches for 2017 Ford Explorer Use Door in Bumper Fascia Like Factory Hitch
None of the hitches we offer for the 2017 Ford Explorer would install so that the receiver tube extends through the bumper like the factory hitch would. The hitches offered by our suppliers would install so that the receiver tube would sit directly under the bumper, like the Curt # C13386 shown in the provided photo. Once the hitch is installed, it wouldn't interfere with the door in the bumper face. An aftermarket hitch like the Curt # C13386 is typically much less expensive and the install...

The Draw-Tite Class III # 76034, the etrailer.com # e98867, and the Curt # C13386 trailer hitches that are available for your 2018 Ford Explorer all feature an extremely similar design and will mount using the same existing holes on the vehicle's frame. The primary difference between the three models are their weight capacities, which is why I recommend the Draw-Tite # 76034. It features the highest towing capacity of 4,500 pounds and tongue weight limit of 675 pounds, indicating a stronger...

  • Hitch Height of Curt Trailer Hitch for 2013 Ford Explorer for Picking Out Ball Mount
When we installed the Curt hitch part # C13386 on a 2013 Ford Explorer like yours we found the distance from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground to be 16-1/4 inches. So since your trailer has a distance from the bottom of the coupler lip to the ground when level of 14-1/2 inches you'd want a drop of 1-3/4 inches. The closest we have to that is a 2 inch drop like the Draw Tite ball mount part # 2923 which would work well. For a 2 inch ball you'd want the part # 63845 or for...
