Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Buick Enclave - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2012 Buick Enclave we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75528. Here's what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist your selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin holes to the outer most edge of the bumper it's 4 and 3 quarter inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 18 and a quarter inches. This will assist your selecting accessories such as ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier. Now we'll go ahead with the installation. To get our install we'll first need to remove the rear fascia door.

To remove the fascia door we'll twist the lower locks and unsnap them. We can go ahead and pull down and out, removing the rear fascia door. Next we'll need to lower the exhaust. To lower the exhaust we'll remove the rubber isolators on either side of the muffler. Because this vehicle has dual exhaust mufflers it will be a total of four hangers to remove.

To get some additional working room we can also remove a fifth hanger in front of the rear axle just behind the front muffler. Now before we do that to help control the weight of the exhaust we're going to put safety strap underneath it first. Then to remove the rubber isolators from the metal hangers we'll spray each one with a spray lubricant then use our pry bar or pliers to remove it. Now with the rubber isolators removed we'll go ahead and use the safety strap to safely lower the weight of the exhaust. Now with the exhaust down and out of the way, we can go ahead and point our the attachment points. We'll have a total of six attachment points.

Two attachment points will be in each frame rail. These will be weld nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer. The other two attachment points will be in the bottom of the bumper structure. These are pre-drilled holes that we'll to make the center attachment points. Now before we attempt to install the new hardware into the well nuts we'll want to clean them out because over time they're going to build up rust, dust, dirt and debris. It can make it difficult to install the new fasteners.

We'll go ahead and use our tube brush, part number 814092. We'll spray each one with some spray lubricant and then thoroughly clean it out. One we clean them out we'll go ahead and take one of the new fasteners, thread it into the well nut to make sure to go nice and easily. Now with the passenger side done we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the drivers side. Now the hardware we'll be using for our center attachment point to secure our hitch will be a bolt and constitue 02:56 washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. This will go up through the hitch attachment point and then sandwich the block between the hitch and the bottom of the bumper structure. Then we'll take the handle nut, feed it over the attachment point and thread the bolt into the handle nut. Note, the handle nuts are designed so they can be bent as necessary so that they can be fed in and over the attachment point. Now we're ready to put our hitch in place. Securing at the well nuts we'll use the new 12-millimeter bolt and half-inch constitute 03:28 washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Now it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. We'll start by installing the frame fastener first, finger tight. Then we'll install the center attachment point bolt and handle nut. We'll install each fastener finger tight until we have them all in place. We'll take our block, put it over the attachment point. Put our handle nut in position and then feed the bolt into place and thread it into the handle nut. Now with all the fasteners in place, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. Once we've tighten them down we'll then go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with all our fasteners installed, secured and torqued to specification, we can go ahead and cut off the excess from the handle nuts. Using a pair of tin snips, we'll go ahead and remove the excess from the handle. I'll then take the cut off piece and push it up into the bumper support and out of the way. Next we'll go ahead and re-install the exhaust. Now with the exhaust re-installed, we'll go ahead and remove our safety strap. This will complete the install of our Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75528 on our 2012 Buick Enclave. .

I was impressed with the quality of the product. I was dreading trying to get the nuts in place for the bumper bolts. I was surprised to see two nuts with metal straps included in the hardware. It was very easy to place the nuts into their proper place and complete the process. That was a perfect solution. Installation took a little longer because i had to clean up the rusted frame threads. Too bad GM doesn't put plastic caps into the threads to keep them from rusting beyond use. Otherwise I am thoroughly pleased with the hitch, mounting instructions and the ease of installation. 435957

This is was the first towing hitch I have installed. Installation was easier than I thought, took about an hour and a half including, gathering of tools and exhaust system cooling time and a single set of hands. What I liked about the hitch receiver were the tolerances to which it was made, it had very little movement at the time of adjustment for final torquing of bolts. Also, once the factory hitch cover goes back on, there is no way to tell if one is on. The only problem is that if you have a cargo carrier to use like mine, it is difficult to insert a keyed locking pin as there were only about 5 inches to work with, still recommend. This was installed on a 2014 Traverse. The videos on Etrailer are extremely helpful, I felt more comfortable doing the install by myself. Saved me at least $200. 144395

Ordering from Etrailer was easy and with free shipping, can't go wrong. This trailer hitch was easily installed and works great. Installed in less than 15min on a 2014 Traverse. I do not know about other hitches, but what is nice about this one, is the hitch sits well up under the vehicle, so the same plastic hitch cover that came with the vehicle can still be used. I was somewhat expecting to have to purchase the alternate cover which has extension for the hitch receiver or leave the hitch visible. The wife was pleased, that the hitch was not visible. 141031

Keith, which hitch did you buy and what model Traverse do you have? Where does one buy the alternative cover?

Keith ordered the Draw-Tite Max-Frame hitch, part # 75528 from us for his 2014 Traverse. There are alternate covers from GM, but whether you'd need one would be dependent on year and which model. This hitch fits Traverse, Outlook, Enclave and Acadia.

2010 Saturn Outlook

I purchased this hitch for my 2010 Saturn Outlook to haul our Boy Scout Troop's trailer for an upcoming campout. I watched the video associated with the product a few times before the hitch came so that I knew how to install it. The suggested install time said 45 minutes, but it took me over 3 hours. However, this was not the fault of the hitch, it was due to me not realizing there were 2 gaskets instead of 1 to lower my 2 mufflers, installing this by myself (it got heavy holding it up by myself), and mainly to having 7 years worth of rust, dirt and debris in the bolt holes under my vehicle. It took me a long time to get the bolts started in the holes. I ended up going to an auto parts store to get some rust removal and more spray lubricant. After I had ordered the hitch, I saw a recommendation for a wire brush. I REALLY wish I had ordered it. The auto parts store I went to did not have one. After a lot of trying to muscle the bolts on, what finally worked was spray a lot of rust removal in the hole. Then I sprayed a lot of spray lubricant in the hole and on the bolt. Once I got the bolt started, I tightened the bolt until it stopped moving. I then removed the bolt, wiped off all the rust on the bolt, re-lubricated the bolt and put it on again going further than the previous time. I repeated this step many times for each of the 4 bolts. It took me 2 hours to figure out this procedure. As soon as I did, the hitch went on easily. It fit the mountings perfectly and looks great. Once I figured out how to clean out the rust and get a good thread going, it went on easily. The directions and video were excellent. I would recommend this hitch to anyone looking for one and tell them to buy the recommended wire brush, take their time to work through the rust, and use a lot of spray lubricant. 409035

2014 Buick Enclave

One of my key concerns was that several vendors apparently ship these trailer hitches unwrapped and without a box. I was pleased to find that the hitch was nicely packaged with the parts nicely secured. I found the video very helpful, and I completed the installation in less than an hour. Using a ratchet strap to secure the mufflers made the job quite simple. I did have help holding up one side of the hitch while I started the bolts, but other than that it was largely a solo effort. My Enclave has only been through one winter, and the bolts threaded in after minimal cleaning the threads with a shot of WD40. The four rubber muffler hangers popped off without use of lubricant or a pry bar. Oh, by the way I took advantage of the low price guarantee. Etrailer provided the price difference plus 10% before the item even shipped. I almost felt guilty about getting a credit when I found a lower price from a lesser vendor. Etrailer has been extremely responsive, and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. 202383

I went back and refreshed my memory last years review, and I am still satisfied today. The hitch looks the same as when I installed it a year ago.It was a great value and buying experience, and if I am in the market for trailer accessories, I will be back.I think that the etrailer business model of including customer comments and informative installation videos would translate well to other parts markets.

Unbelievable service/support!. Let's start with shipping...2 1/2 days, delivered a whole day ahead of estimated arrival date. Product - superb. Didn't make the 1/2 install time on the hitch as I was working by myself (that sucker is heavy!) and when I went to lower the dual exhaust, got one of the hangers but not the other. Found this out when I went back to put the one I took off back on. My bad. So I was still able to install the hitch but couldn't get my torque wrench in there to do it proper. Will have to go back and do again but I was still able to install tightly to tow a little 4' X 7' utility trailer no sweat. Will probably have the hitch welded to the frame since its hidden when not in use. Electrical Install....another piece of cake with one minor exception. The directions indicated to attach the black wire coming from the battery to the RED wire coming out of the module. There is no RED wire coming out of the module, it's black also. My knowledge of DC wiring told me to go with it. I did, everything worked great. As previously reported, the green wire going to the passenger side was a little short (probably due to my routing) but the black wire going to the battery was about a foot long (I liked that)! I'm not real happy about my routing so I will go back and redo when I get the hitch welded. I want a really good job and the initial install I was under to gun to rush the job so I had to take a couple of harmless shortcuts. When I do the redo, I'll document for etrailer.com, they are most deserving in my book! I most strongly recommend these folks at etrailer.com. In fact, I need to go back to them for the 4 wire flat connector bracket and their 2" ball. Was in too much of a rush this go-around. . 148764

2012 Chevrolet Traverse

I bought the Draw-Tite Class III 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver for my '12 Chevy Traverse. I got it for one main reason, a new hitch mounted bike carrier. I was a little nervous about ordering it, because I was worried about the fit, and I don't have any experience with trailer hitches. Prior to ordering it, I did a little research on the website. I plugged in the year, make and model of my car, and the site gave me a few options for custom fit hitch receivers. I picked the one that I wanted, and then I looked over the instructions, Q&A, and watched the installation video. The video is what really swayed me, it looked really simple! I was right. When the hitch receiver arrived, I was surprised at how light it was, it was lighter than my bike carrier! I will say that the included instructions are a bit lacking. I think some larger and more clear pictures with the appropriate step would be helpful. Thankfully, the website does a fantastic job with the installation instructions, and again, the video was a HUGE help! When I first tried to install it, I couldn't get the appropriate bolts into the weld nuts. I had cleaned them with some WD-40 and a wire brush, or so I thought. I thought that I was sent the wrong size bolt because the teeth would not even grab into the weld nut, and it just kept spinning; I was aggravated at the thought of waiting for replacement parts. But, I went back to the website and looked a little further into the Q&A section, and I found another video on cleaning the weld nuts. In the video, it described my exact issue, and even explained that despite one's belief that the bolts would not fit the weld nuts, 99% of the time the weld nuts were not thoroughly cleaned out. Well, guess what? I went back to cleaning the weld nuts, and after a total of roughly 4hrs and some serious elbow grease and a full can of WD-40, I had cleaned out the weld nuts enough so that the bolts fit with ease! My '12 Traverse has about 37K miles on it, so there was a lot of rust and grime in there. After getting the weld nuts clean, the actual installation of the hitch receiver took me maybe 45mins. And I had no issues with installing it by myself. I did have to lower my spare tire in order to get my torque wrench in there, but other than that there were no major issues. I can't imagine paying a couple hundred $$ extra to have a professional install this. Even if someone had absolutely no mechanical ability whatsoever, they could install this themselves; just watch the video and follow the instructions. Honestly, I think I've had more difficulty in helping my kids build their LEGO sets, than I did installing this hitch! I would highly recommend etrailer.com to anyone looking for a hitch, and I am extremely pleased with the ease of the entire process, from finding the right product to delivery to installation. Although I didn't deal directly with customer service, I'm sure that if you can't find an answer to your question on the website itself, someone from customer service would certainly be able to help you. Thank you etrailer! 261694

This was an amazing deal and an amazing product. I received my package on time and installed it the next day. The hitch installed very easy. I was impressed with the fact that the install videos were linked with my receipt and I used them to install the hitch from my cell phone under the vehicle. The hitch fit like it was supposed to and tucks up inside the bumper like a factory hitch. Very pleased with the whole process from buying, to receiving and to installing. Would buy from these guys again and again. Thank you for a great experience 571218

Ok, now down to the meat of my install. After carefully chasing the four weld nuts and fighting an exhaust system that would not cooperate, my son and I got this bad boy up in no time. Despite the fact that it was 98 degrees that day! It fit perfectly. The only issue was finding the torque specs which we found printed on the back of what appeared to be the French version of the install instructions. Still give five stars! The help I received ordering all my parts over the phone was second to none! Even considering it was a Saturday! Thanks to everyone involved!!! 567385

2017 Chevy Traverse Super easy installation. I was able to install it myself. There were a few issues I had to overcome however: 1. Getting the plug into the wire harness underneath the vehicle took quite a bit of time as it is very hard to get to. I ended up having my wife help me by pulling the plastic body piece out so I could get my arm in to reach it better. 2. The YouTube video is very helpful for the most part however, There is a discrepancy between the directions that came with the wiring harness and the fuses/relays that were included. Follow the instructions that come with the harness and it will be alright. Do not rely on the Youtube video for this portion of the install. 3. The plug connector that attaches to the hitch itself needs a mounting bracket that IS NOT included with the hitch. The bracket is easily found at an automotive parts store but take the connector with you to make sure it fits properly onto the bracket. Other than these minor (and somewhat confusing) issues this tow package was easy to install and it is VERY well built. 572927

The the 4-pole wiring bracket you need to attach to the existing bracket on this hitch is part Item # 18144. If you need a bracket for a 7 way plug I recommend part # PK12711U.

No problem putting on the Hitch our 2012 Enclave. My wife did not want the hitch to show. Done some research and found that GM has a fisacia insert that takes the place of the one you remove. GM part # 25775358. A little pricey but worth it. 107818

Just got a 2014 Enclave. Thinking to buy the same hitch. Based on the video, it seems the orig. rear fascia door can be re-installed back. Why did you not put back the orig. one? Its not possible or you dont like the orig. fascia style? Or, only 20132014 enclave fascia door can be reinstalled? Thanks.

Tom, I think part of your response got cut off. The Enclave received a bit of a facelift for the 2013 model year and the changes to rear bumper cover allow for the original cover to be re-installed over a hitch on 2013 and newer. 2012 and older models require a different panel to accommodate a hitch.

2012 GMC Acadia

I received the hitch in the mail a few days ago, and I must first say that the packaging was very good. The hitch was well protected and boxed up nicely, with no loose parts anywhere. The instructions were fairly easy to follow and installation took about 1 hour. It could have taken less time if I had a lower profile torque wrench. The distance between the top of the muffler and the bolt was less than 2" and the height of my torque wrench and socket were more than that. So, in my case, it took me hanging on the muffler to make enough room to get the wrench in between to tighten the bolts to specification. As I said before, I didn't have the proper tool so I used what I had. For the 2012 GMC Acadia, the installation used 6 bolts, 6 cone washers, 2 spacers, and 2 handle nuts. The plastic bumper cover and the rubber muffler vibration mounts are the only things that need to be removed for the installation. Overall, it seems like a well-built trailer hitch. I look forward to many years of use! 70641

I received this Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" back in December and just installed it yesterday. The hitch came with all mounting hardware including instructions. I went online to review the install video which I recommend to any DIY's it was very helpful. It took more than the 45 minutes that was quoted but that was because of the factory frame nuts were rusted and trying to tap them was difficult because the exhaust would only drop a few inches. All in all it was a fairly easy project for a 68 year old to accomplish. I would recommend this product. 664922

I ordered the hitch at 6pm on a Monday and it arrived at 2pm on a Thursday via standard UPS delivery. This installation was a snap. I set my laptop up in the back of our 2011 Traverse, watched the installation video and had it on in about 30 minutes. We also purchased the 118450 wiring harness. My wife and I had a great time installing it together; again in about 45 minutes. Thanks "etrailer" for getting me the correct parts (so quickly) and for producing the fantastic install videos! 54619

Researched the product as well as the company. I was satisfied with my decision and also reviewed videos for installation and additional items I may need to purchase. Made the purchase and I was immediately contacted to inform me my order was being processed and shortly after, I was notified the items had shipped. I was told when to expect the shipment. From the first keystroke of the order until the final turn of the installation, everything was first class and exactly as advertised. Items arrived on time, the fit was right on and would recommend etrailer and Draw-Tite to all. 568541

Like many others stated, super easy installation of the hitch. Only took me about 30 min by myself. It took me about an hour for the wiring harness and bracket since I had to find another bolt and nut since it only came with 3. The thing that gave me the most trouble was the wiring harness. I couldn't bring the cannon plug down towards me at all so I had to do it all by feel. The mounting bracket for the wiring harness I chose to flip upside down and bend towards the rear of the car and down so I could hide the wiring and hitch completely. The other reason was because I didn't want the bracket to catch on anything because it was lower than the bumper. I ordered the supplies on Fri and they were here mid day the following Tuesday. With all the great videos, a job that might have taken me 4-5 hours only took 2 hours plus knowing where the cannon plug was helped tremendously. If I hadn't known where it was I would have prob had to do a splice job. This job, in my opinion, looks professional. Thanks ETRAILER. 399633

I followed the installation video provided by etrailer and all went smoothly with the exception of the mounting holes on the hitch were not drilled/spaced properly for my application. I had to remove the hitch and bore out two of the forward mounting holes to get them to align properly with the threaded holes on my frame. It was quite a pain, but once I got it bored and aligned properly, I was able to install all the bolts properly with thread locker and really snug them down. The hitch and all associates components with the kit have been great to me for a year now. I’d say I average one tow a week of about 750lbs each load and the hitch hasn’t warped, loosened, bent or anything else adverse in that year. I inspect the whole hitch system and components every few months to be safe and liberally apply Fluid Film each time to keep it protected from the elements and road grime. So far so good. I recommend this product. 768242

I have bought several draw-tite hitches and tow plates from etrailer over the years and they all fit perfectly, installed with ease and lasted for the life of the vehicle. I would never buy towing equipment from anyone else. 765848

I was faced with going to a local shop and Paying $450 or purchasing through the Etrailer and installing myself for $125. I've ordered from Etrailer before and knew about their supreme quality, top customer service and low prices. I am grateful for the detailed install videos on their website, it helped me with the easy installation that took less than 30 minutes. I bragged about the ease of plug and play to my friends on social media. I loaded a few pictures for reference. 762894

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Can Rear Fascia be Reattached on 2011 Buick Enclave After Installing Draw-Tite 75528
Installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 75528, will require the removal of the rear fascia, and will not be able to be reattached on Buick Enclaves that are model year 2012 and older. I have added a link to an install video which demonstrates an attached hitch so you can get a feel for how your 2011 Enclave will look after a completed install.

  • Cooler Options to Prepare 2011 Buick Enclave CXL for Trailer Towing
According to the online information I found for your 2011 Buick Enclave CXL with front-wheel-drive, the vehicle is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 2000-lbs unless it is equipped with the trailer towing package, in which case its towing capacity increases to 4500-lbs. Both of the 2-inch hitches we offer for your Enclave have a 5000-lb towing capacity but since the vehicle is rated lower, that lower vehicle towing capacity becomes your actual working limit. The hitch I recommend...

  • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2011 Buick Enclave
First thing you will need is a trailer hitch. The most popular option is the Draw Tite part # 75528 which would be a great option confirmed as a fit. I attached an install video for more info. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118450. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7....

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75528 is only confirmed to fit models Traverse models to 2017 or 2018 limited models. For your 2019 Chevy Traverse LT, you will want the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - 2" # 76184 which is a fit for 2018 to present models. You will be able to install the cover over the hitch when not in use for that clean look. I've attached a video to assist. If you will be towing with this hitch, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118761...

  • Can V92 Tow Package be Added to 2012 Chevy Traverse LT
I can definitely help you out with equipment that allows you to tow with your 2012 Chevy Traverse but it is my understanding that the V92 Trailer Towing Package (as it is called on page 9-48 of your owner's manual) cannot be added to a vehicle without the tow package. You'd need to get clarification on this from a dealer. According to my research the V92 Tow Package not only comes with a trailer hitch, wiring, and provisions for a brake controller, but there are also some other things...

You are on the right track! The Draw Tite hitch part # 75528 is a confirmed fit for your 2014 Buick Enclave as well as the trailer wiring kit # 118270. The wiring mount part # 18144 will also give you a place to mount the 4-way that bolts to the bumper. The ball mount part # C45036 that you referenced is would also work well if you need 2 inch drop. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 75528 is a great option for your 2013 Chevrolet Traverse! I can definitely help you figure out the best wiring kit to purchase to get you on the road. If you have the tow package on your Traverse then you will simply need to connect the T-One # 118270 up behind the bumper on the passenger side of your vehicle (see attached photo). This kit also requires you to connect the included fuses and relays to complete the wiring circuits. All of this is...

Then for trailer wiring all you'd need is the # 118450 to provide you with a 4-way. The part # 118384 would be the correct kit if your vehicle came with a 7-way and you needed to convert it to a 4-way but it sounds like you don't have the 7-way wiring at this time. If you were to purchase the models with the factory tow package (all except the LS base model), the capacity increases to 5200 lbs according to the manufacturer. I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2016 GMC Acadia and found that models with the factory tow package can pull a trailer that weighs up to 5,200 pounds. I do highly recommend also verifying this in your copy of the owner's manual or by visiting a local GMC dealer with your VIN. • Solution for Weld Nuts of Trailer Hitch that Are Too Rusty to Thread Bolts
Rusty weld nuts can make trailer hitch installs pretty difficult but there are solutions. First you want to clean them as well as possible so that hopefully that allows the bolts to thread. But worst case scenario you can use a thread tap to clean the threads out. If you can't even get the tap in I'd first try cleaning them with a wire brush and WD 40 first to help get the tap started. I attached two help articles that cover how this is done as well.

Installation of a hitch like Draw-Tite # 75528 in your 2010 Chevrolet Traverse whose frame weld nuts are rusted out will require some special attention.
