Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Durango

Today on an 2006 Dodge Durango we are going to install part number 75162 from Draw-Tite. The hitch mounts actually to the bumper structure underneath the bumper cover so what we are going to to do is loosen up the bumper cover to get access to the bumper structure itself. Now I will take a block of wood and we will just put up it in between the bumper structure and the fascia so we will have a little more working room and then we will start working on cutting out the Styrofoam. We will go ahead and put the hitch up into position to give us an idea of where it is going to go.00:27

As you can see here this is where the U bolts are going to be here and going up here. And they are going to be right in the way of the Styrofoam here so what you are going to do is actually take a 3/ 4 inch drill bit and drill it out all the way through and then we will have room for our U bolts. Once you break away all of the Styrofoam, bring the U bolt down just like this. Go ahead and do the same thing on this side. All right at this point we can go ahead and start lifting the hitch into position and attach it by the U bolt. All right once you have got your U bolts installed, go ahead and take a few minutes to center the hitch up and go ahead and snug down the U bolts. You want this bracket about right in the same area as this indent right here. 01:24

Once you have the hitch in place and snugged down you can go ahead and start drilling out your holes for the two bolts that go through the hitch and through the bumper cross member itself. You are going to drill all the way through. That is another reason why I had that wood block behind the fascia to keep it away so you do not damage the fascia. Once you have got the holes drilled through go ahead and run the drill bit all the way through the sides that way you can get the holes evened up so the bolts should slide in pretty easy. Let us go ahead and slip the bolts all the way through and then put on our lock washer and nut. All right with all of our hardware attached we can go ahead and start snugging down the bolts and then torque them down. All right we have got our hitch torqued down we can go ahead and put our bumper cover back into position and put in the plastic rivets. All right, and with that that finishes our install part number 75162 from Draw-Tite.

Worked good and fit pretty good.. had a little bit of an issue with the U bolt though.. one of them was bent . It would not go in the holes .. checked the other U bolt with the holes.. both sets of holes were right .. just a bent u bolt.. placed it in the vise and pulled it enough to fit.. other than that it went together pretty good.. shipping was super fast .. thank you !! 491348

This couldn't have been easier. Bought the hitch on Saturday, received it TODAY (3 business days later) and installed it in about an hour. Giving it the real test tomorrow when we pull the boat to the landing and take the kids tubing. Thanks for the hitch, the instructions to put it on and the follow up to make sure I was happy! 53509

Ok I ordered this hitch for the looks as I didn't like the other one. The website says it takes 50 min to install...I did it in 45 min! The website says difficulty 5 out of 10...I rate it a 3 only because I don't have a lift so I installed it on my back.. All in all I recommend this hitch. Great instructions and the video on the website was spot on.DON'T be put off by the drilling it was easy to do I did it with a cordless drill. 6 new nuts and 4 bolts alot easter than 6 rush ones to deal with 9777

Excellent heavy duty hitch. Installed myself. Easy install if you have the right tools. Used a half inch drill to go through the frame and it still took a while. Arrived in record time. 9455

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Does Curt Hitch # 13297 Extend Out Past The Bumper on a 2006 Dodge Durango
  • We have six different hitches compatible with your 2006 Dodge Durango, including the Curt # 13297 that you referenced. All of the hitches available for your vehicle do extend out a bit past the bumper/fascia. The diagram shows the Draw-Tite placement in relation to your bumper/fascia, however, all of the hitches will be extremely similar in placement. The picture is of the Draw-Tite # 75162 which does give you a length - this picture is taken on the back of a 2009 Chrysler Aspen, so...

  • Recommendation of Compatible Hitches for the 2005 dodge Durango and Towing Accessories
  • We have 3 hitches that are designed for use on the 2005 Dodge Durango. I will list them all below. Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, item # 75292 Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch , item # 75162 Curt Class III Round Tube Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # 13297 Of the 3 trailer hitches offered I would select the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # 75292, because it has the highest towing capacities and is easy to install(see video) on the 2005 Durango. Some item you may need to complete...

  • How to Get Most Out of Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Dodge Durango
  • All of the trailer hitch receivers that are designed for your 2005 Dodge Durango, like the Draw-Tite # 75162 you referenced, have a maximum tongue weight capacity of 600 pounds unless you're using a weight distribution. They increase to 900 pounds tongue weight with weight distribution, as long as your vehicle is rated that high. Since you're planning to tow up to 5,000 I recommend weight distribution anyway. Anytime your loaded trailer is at least 50 percent of the tow vehicle's weight...

  • Where are the Torque Specs for the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75162 on a 2004 Dodge Durango
  • I attached a link that contains the installation instructions that has the torque specs for all of the installation hardware for the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75162 on your 2004 Dodge Durango. Using LocTite is not required for the installation hardware of your vehicle, but it would not be a bad idea to use some.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation that Will Not Interfere With Spare Tire on a 2005 Dodge Durango
  • I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Receiver Hitch, part # 75162 for your vehicle. It has a 2 inch receiver and will not interfere with your spare tire. To wire your vehicle for towing, you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118390. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2007 to 2009 Chrysler Aspen or 2004 to 2009 Dodge Durango
  • Trailer hitches and wiring are sold separately because many people want or need to buy just one or the other and would not want to pay extra for parts they won't need. Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75162 is designed to fit on 2007 to 2009 Chrysler Aspens and 2004 to 2009 Dodge Durangos. For a trailer wiring harness that fits these same vehicles I recommend # 118390. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2005 Dodge Durango
  • The Hidden Hitch brand has been discontinued because it was the same hitch as Draw-Tite with just a different sticker for years. Draw-Tite made both hitches as they bought out Hidden Hitch many years ago. For the same hitch as 87562, you will want the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75162. If you will be towing with this hitch, I also recommend the Etrailer.com ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with...

  • Will Draw-Tite Hitch part # 75162 Fit My 2009 Dodge Durango and What Wiring is Recommended
  • Draw-Tite hitch, part # 75162 will fit your 2009 Dodge Durango. All of our hitches include all the nuts and bolts and other hardware needed to install. However, you could use Curt Hitch, part # 13296. This hitch will be much easier to install, almost half the time, and you will not have to drill any holes, but you can see a bit more of the hitch since it has the cross tube. I will include links to an install video of the first hitch, and the instruction sheet for the Curt hitch. If minimizing...

  • Hitch Recommendation for Having Hitch Fabricated to Trailer Frame
  • Actually if you are planning on having a crossmember welded to the frame of your trailer you would be best off just having the part # 41990 welded to the frame as that has the hitch opening already welded to it. Or we have the part # 41990-07 which has the hitch attached to drop brackets. I can't recommend the hitch you referenced as an option though as it's not designed as a multi-fit hitch.

  • Why Does Draw Tite Hitch for 2005 Dodge Durango # 75162 Have Higher Capacities than Vehicle
  • Trailer hitches often have towing capacities that are just slightly higher than the capacity of the vehicle they are installed on. Since a towing capacity is only as strong as it's weakest link you go to with the vehicle's capacity as the overall capacity. The towing capacity is more than just engine power and frame strength. You also have to consider the transmission's ability to handle the weight, the cooling power of the engine and the brakes. Hitch manufacturers like to make their...
