Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Acura TLX

Today in our 2016 Acura TLX we're gonna be taking a loot at and showing you how to install the Draw Tite class one custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 24942. So here's what a hitch is gonna look like once we have it installed in our Acura. The cross tube's gonna be completely hidden behind the bumper and all we're gonna see is the receiver tube sticking out, so it's not gonna be distracting from the looks. Our hitch is gonna have an inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube opening. Which is gonna be great for bike racks and some smaller cargo carriers. The way we're gonna mount any of our accessories through the hitch pin hole here on the side. And it is gonna except a standard half inch pin and clip.

And these are not included in the kit but you can pick them up here at etrailer.com. Our CG connection point is gonna be a loop style. And we'll have plenty of room to get most size hooks on or off.As far as the weight capacity goes, our hitch is gonna have a 200 pound ton weight, along with a 2,000 pound gross trailer weight. Now with those numbers in mind you should always double check your Acura's owner's manual. Never exceed the manufacturers recommended weight.

I'd like to give you a few measurements and it's gonna help you whenever you're looking at accessories for your new hitch such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin holes in the outer most edge of the bumper, should be right about three inches. That measurements gonna come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough clearance and that it's not gonna come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground, the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening should be right about 12 1/2 inches. At that height I would definitely recommend a cargo carrier or a bike rack with a raised shank. That way we get a little bit more ground clearance. So now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed.

To begin our installation we're gonna come to the back of our Acura and at the very bottom of the fascia we're gonna have a couple fasteners that are holding it to the bottom of the trunk pan. They're gonna be push pin style fasteners and you want to come in with a flat blade screw driver and pop out the center section, which is gonna take the tension off. And once you have the center section popped out, come underneath the outer section and we can pull the rest of the push pin out. We're gonna have one on each side. Now if we move to the rear wheel well here, we're gonna have a mud flap on ours. If you don't have a mud flap you're not gonna have to remove it.

But in order to get to all the fasteners, we're gonna have to pull this off. So we'll have a couple screws right here along the edge, go ahead and pull those out. It helps if you use a small ratcheting driver like this or a Stubby screwdriver because the tires gonna be right in the way. We're also gonna have a screw holding it in on the inside corner here that we're gonna have to pull out.And finally we're gonna have one on the very bottom, right behind the mud flap itself. And we'll pull our mud flap off and set it aside for right now. Now on the inside we'll have this brace. And the brace is gonna have a screw holding it on the bottom as well as on the top that we're gonna have to remove. With all the screws removed we'll pull the brace out and set it aside. Finally we'll have one more screw. We're gonna pull the liner back and right where the fender meets the fascia here, we're gonna have a screw vertically put in. So again, with our Phillips head screwdriver, we'll pull that screw out. We're gonna repeat that entire process on the other side as well. Next we're gonna come to our trunk and we're gonna have three covers right by our tail lights. So we'll take a flat blade screwdriver, we're gonna pop those covers out. Behind those covers we're gonna have a few fasteners. These top two are gonna be holding our tail light in. We're gonna grab an 8mm socket and pull those fasteners out. And last the last bottom one here is gonna be holding on the fascia so we'll grab 10mm socket and pull that out.Once you have those fasteners removed on the back of the trunk area, you're gonna grab the tail light and you're gonna kind of pivot it out going towards the outer edge, 'cause there's gonna be some fasteners, push pins in the side here. And it is an extremely tight fit so you wanna be careful that these push pins are gonna be going into the side. So you have to pivot it out to get it out. And we're gonna wanna disconnect all of our electrical connections. So we'll come to one, we'll push in on this tab and we'll pull it off. We come to our other one, push in on the tab and pull that off as well. And we'll set our tail light aside where it won't get damaged. And we can remove the other side as well. Now the weather stripping is going along the bottom of our trunk. So we're gonna go ahead and grab it. We're gonna go ahead and peel it off so it's not gonna interfere when we're pulling our fascia off. You wanna go all the way from about where the tail light is going all the way across the other side. We can just set it inside the trunk. Now it's a good idea to grab an extra set of hands when we go to remove our fascia. And we'll start at the corner where it meets the fender and we're just gonna start peeling it away, unclipping those clips. Now once we get to the tail light area, it's gonna have these little tabs up here. We may need to get a screw driver to lift up on those or we can grab the bottom of the fascia, push upwards and tilt it to release those. Right here in the center we'll have a few clips so you may have to grab it in the center to pull it fully away. Make sure you don't have any wiring before you go too far but we'll set our fascia aside where it won't get damaged. We need to pull our bumper beam off now and it's gonna be held in place by three bolts. We'll have one on top and two on the bottom on each side. So we'll grab a 12mm socket and pull those out. So then we wanna lift up and pull our bumper off and we're gonna set it aside for right now. Now you'll notice once we have our bumper beam off we're gonna have these hanger tabs that are gonna be in place. Now that section that's coming up right there, we're gonna grab a pair of pliers, we're just gonna bend it straight to where it's gonna be a 90 degree angle. So we have a little bit more clearance when we got to line everything up. We're gonna do that for both sides. Now before we put our hitch up I'm gonna come to the center where our tow hook is, we're gonna grab our U-bolt and we're gonna slide it around our tow hook so it's sitting there just like this. We grab our hitch. Wanna make sure that U-bolt goes through the bottom section of the hitch and we'll lift our hitch up so that it's gonna rest on those hangers. And for our U-bolt we're gonna grab a Conical tooth washer. Make sure the teeth face up towards the hitch and then we'll take a nut and we're gonna do that for both sides of our U-bolt. Just wanna get this on there just loosely for now so in case we have to make any kind of adjustments or slide our hitch around, we still can.Now we're gonna take our bumper beam and we're gonna hang it back on the hanger and sandwich the hitch in between. Now you may need to lift up on the hitch and the bumper beam a little bit to get everything to line up. Then we're gonna take the factory bolts that we removed and reinstall them. Now you wanna get at least one in on each side that way we don't have to worry about everything coming down and it'll help support the weight of everything. Now once we have all of our hardware in we're gonna come back with that same 12mm socket and snug em all up. You're gonna wanna come back with a torque wrench and torque all your hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. We'll come back with an 11 1/16 socket and snug up our U-bolt hardware as well. Then we'll come back and torque em down to the specified amount in the instructions. Now in order for us to put our fascia back in we are gonna have to do some trimming. I went ahead and marked out the areas that need to be trimmed and we can find the diagram in our instructions. You just wanna find the center point and this is right where the tow hook goes through and then follow the measurements and it's gonna be a guideline we may need to cut a little bit more. But it's always a better thing to cut a little bit then too much. Now you can use a razor knife or a drummel tool like I'm gonna be doing. You just wanna be careful and take your time whenever you're starting to cut.We can always come back and clean all that excess paint off and make sure we test it to see if we need to cut anymore. With the trim, we'll grab another set of hands and we're gonna put our fascia back in to position. You may need to guide it around the hitch a little bit, make sure everything's going back to where it needs to and all the clips are gonna clip back in. I'm just gonna put all the fasteners and tail lights back in place in the reverse order that we took them out. That will finish up your look at the Draw Tite class one custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 24942 on our 2016 Acura TLX.

The link provided on the instruction sheet for additional pictures didn't work. Also the exact details, e.g., number of screws, was a bit off for my particular vehicle. Having said that the whole process was fairly smooth. I had a slight bit of trouble getting the trailer hitch and bumper lined up with the holes but a little help from a floor jack cured this minor issue. The hitch is solidly built and does indeed work on a 2018 Acura TLX SH-AWD. I will be using the trailer hitch solely for a bike rack, no trailer towing for me. 520815

Excellent hitch. It has a minimal look to it where you can only see the hitch sticking out. Most of everything else is hidden behind the bumper. It was easy to install and the folks at strainer are great to work with. I would def choose etrailer again in the future for my hitch needs. Also bought a wire harness from them that was easy to install. 683602

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitch on 2016 Acura TLX
  • There is a photo available showing what the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11535 will look like when installed on a 2016 Acura TLX, which is from the linked installation instructions for this hitch. The crosstube does show with the Curt hitch so if you were looking for a hitch that had a concealed crosstube you will need the Draw-Tite # 24942; I have added a photo we did from an install of this hitch on a '16 TLX so you can take a look at the difference. Each of these hitches is a Class I...

  • Install Photos of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on a 2018 Acura TLX
  • I do have better install photos of the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24942 which show the receiver tube more clearly and I have attached those for you. However, these photos are on a base model, not an A-Spec as we have not yet had the chance to install a trailer hitch on a 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec. There is an install video which I have attached for you as well. Unfortunately, we rely on customer vehicles to get photos and we have just not simply had a customer come in...

  • Will a 1Up USA Quick Rack Fit Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 24942 on a 2018 Acura TLX
  • The Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24942 for your 2018 Acura TLX has a 1-1/4 inch receiver. This is a Class I hitch so a bike rack will need to be Class I rated. Looking at the 1Up Quick Rack they state it fits 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch receivers but they do not mention if the 1-1/4 includes both Class I and Class II hitches or just Class II. If you do not already have the rack I recommend taking a look at the Thule T1 # TH9041 which will fit a Class I hitch for sure and will be much easier...

  • Does the Draw-Tite # 24942 Fit a 2019 Acura TLX
  • Yes, the Draw-Tite # 24942 is a confirmed fit for your 2019 Acura TLX. This is a Class I trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a max tongue rating of 200 lbs and a max gross trailer weight rating of 2,000 lbs but you will want to verify any weight ratings in your owner's manual. Attached are some photos a customer sent in with this hitch installed on their 2019 Acura TLX AWD-Aspec model.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2016 Acura TLX
  • Absolutely! For your 2016 Acura TLX I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24942. This is a Class I trailer hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. I have included a link to the instructions for you. If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. Check the vehicle owner's manual to see if...

  • Which Hitch for 2015 Acura TLX Weighs Less Curt or Draw Tite
  • The Curt hitch part # C11535 weighs 29 lbs and the Draw Tite part # 24942 weighs in at 26 lbs so the weight is about same. Both of these are fits for your 2015 Acura TLX. Ground clearance is going to be about the same for either as they both are designed to tuck right under the rear bumper.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec AWD
  • The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24942 is a confirmed fit for your 2018 Acura TLX A-Spec AWD. The bumper is different than the one in our photo, so I've attached what we have. You bumper will have a better look simply because of the black trim to allow less contrast and a more hidden look. The Curt hitch 11409 has been replaced with the Curt # C11535 which will be far less hidden by design as you stated. Trimming will be required with...
