Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Chrysler 200 - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2012 Chrysler 200, we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24871. Now here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is approximately 7 1/4 inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 11 inches. Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. Now we're first going to begin our installation by pointing out the rubber exhaust hangers that we need to remove so that we can temporarily lower down the exhaust to give our self a little more working room as well as allow the hitch to go up into position a little easier.

We'll begin over here on the driver's side, we'll need to remove this exhaust hanger, this exhaust hanger and there will be two over on the passenger's side as well in the same two locations. Now before we remove the rubber exhaust hangers, we're going to go ahead and install a safety strap to help support our exhaust once the rubber exhaust hangers are removed. Now with our safety strap in place, we can go ahead and use a little bit of spray lubricant and a large pry bar to remove the rubber exhaust hangers. We'll go ahead and repeat this process at the other three rubber exhaust hangers. Now with all four rubber exhaust hangers loose, go ahead and use our safety strap and lower the exhaust down a little more. To mount our hitch, we'll be using a total of four mounting locations, two on each side. We'll begin over here on the passenger's side, we'll be using this hole right here as well as this hole right here.

While we're over here, let's go ahead and point out the access hole that we'll be using to pull some hardware into the vehicle's frame. The access hole over here on the passenger's side will be right here. Now over here on the driver's side, it will be a mirror image of the passenger's side. We'll be using here and here. Right up here will be the access location. Next, let's go over the hardware that we'll be using to secure our hitch, we'll begin with the hardware used at the rear mounting location on each side.

That hardware will be a 1/2 inch by 4 1/2 inch long hex bolt, a round hole spacer block, go like this. This hardware will then be pushed through from the outside of the frame with the hole that lines up so that it will come through like that. Then the hitch will go on, followed by a 1/2 inch conical tooth washer, the teeth facing towards the hitch and finally a 1/2 inch hex nut. For now we can go ahead and leave the bolt and the large round hole spacer block into position by simply pulling the bolt back enough that when we slide our hitch up, we can simply push it through. For the forward mounting location on each side, we'll be using a 1/2 carriage bolt, square hole spacer block, these two items will be fish-wired in through the access hole and pulled out right here using the supplied fish-wire or bolt leader that comes with the hardware kit. Once the hardware is pulled into position, we'll then install a 1/2 inch conical tooth washer, again making sure the teeth face towards the hitch, followed by a 1/2 inch hex nut.

This will be the same hardware used at both forward mounting locations, one on each side. Next we're ready to go ahead and put our hitch up into position. Go ahead and line it up. With our hitch raised up into position, go ahead and take the bolts from the outside, go ahead and push it through the hitch, go ahead and do that for both sides. Now with the hitch supported by the two bolts, we can go ahead and install our conical tooth washer and nut on each of the bolts. Now with our hitch held up in position by the two rear mounting locations, we're going to go ahead and take our bolt leader or fish-wire, we'll go through the forward mounting location with the coiled end of the fish-wire, we'll then pull it out the access hole. We'll then take our square hole spacer block and our 1/2 carriage bolt and add them onto the fish-wire or bolt leader. We'll then push both back up into the vehicle's frame and pull into position. Now with our carriage bolt pull into position, go ahead and remove the fish-wire or the bolt leader, being careful not to allow the carriage bolt to fall back into the vehicle's frame. Now with our bolt leader removed, we've gone ahead and installed the conical tooth washer as well as the hex nut. Then we'll need to move over to the driver's side where we'll repeat the same process for the forward mounting location. Now with all of our hardware installed loosely, we can go ahead and tighten it all down. Then torque it to the manufacturer's specification. Now with our hardware all torqued down, we can go ahead and reinstall the four rubber exhaust hangers. Now with our four rubber exhaust hangers back up into position, we can go ahead and remove the safety strap. With that, that will do it for the installation of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24871, as installed here on our 2012 Chrysler 200. .

No major problems with the installation. Jacked car up and used Jack stands, no lift. I did not drop my exhaust and had no problems. Definitely watch the video of guy installing the bolt with the fishing wire. Not so hard if you see it on the video. W/out the video, I would have been in trouble. Will use to pull small boat. Overall not as hard as I thought. Have not used it yet, wire kit is next. 489010

Exactly as described, FAST shipping and EASY install. In my case, I had to use an extension as my trailer was too close to the bumper but otherwise a perfect hitch! 422227

Outstanding! I got the products way faster than expected. Hitch went on very easily. If you are mechanicallying inclined the job goes well. Really pleased with the fishing wire that was provided. Goes well if you fish the coiled end through rear hole pushing forward, but I was not happy with electrical wiring diagram. Leaves a lot to be desired. I have electrical background and found it difficult to understand. Also, you have to cut through the rubber grommets to feed new plugs to lights, not happy about that, but overall I am happy with the service and thank you 557092

All is good with the install. The feed wires to feed the bolts into the frame could be a little longer. Difficult to feed through the frame 585101

Rarely do I write reviews but this deserved one. I bought the drawtite hitch (24871) and the swagman xtc-2 bike rack. I thought mounting the hitch would be a royal pain... not at all. Probably took a total of a 1/2 hour. Went on etrailer.com and watched a video that clearly showed what to do. Same thing with the bike rack. Both seem well built, all hardware was included. and all the holes lined up!! (that is rare). The online help at etrailer.com was excellent and I will order from them again. Thanks! 283875

The hitch is great! Hidden away nicely. Just like photo. And Fit Perfectly. I have yet to run wiring. Doing that tonite. --- BUT!!!... that whole fish wire thing and installing the shorter 2" bolts. Argh! Total frustration. Why not just put 4 of the large bolts in? I was under that car for an hour trying to make that work. So close,, yet impossible. So I just went to the hardware store and bought 2 more of the 4" bolts. I recommend just putting 4 of the larger bolts into the package. Thanks. -H 193977

2011 Dodge Avenger

I received my trailer hitch and wiring kit for my 2011 Dodge Avenger just a few days after ordering them. The only issue I had with installing the hitch was I couldn't feed the wire through the frame tube on the driver's side. I ended up running a stiffer wire through and attaching it to the coil which allowed me to make it happen. When I first read the directions for the wiring kit I thought I might be in over my head for this installation. Over the next couple of days I reread it and decided to give it a try. I was successful and am very happy! My reason for buying the trailer is that I no longer own a truck and with my hobby being landscaping this little trailer will come in handy. 156082

I bought the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver, #24871, to mount on a 2010 Chrysler Sebring (Hard Top) convertable. I was a bit apprehensive so i called the 800 phone support and was assured it would fit. I also purchased a Swagman XC-S6465 bike rack to be used with the Draw-Tite Receiver. After receiving them, it took an hour and a half and I had 2 bikes hanging off the back of the car. Everything was flawless. Great products at a great price. 40349

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible
  • There is a confirmed fit for a 2012 Chrysler 200 convertible and it is Curt Hitch # C11133. The Draw-Tite hitch is not yet a confirmed fit. The Curt hitch comes with the correct ball mount, hitch pin, and clip. For a ball you can use # 19256 for 1-7/8 inch diameter or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2013 Dodge Avenger SXT
  • Yes, the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24871 fits all models of the 2013 Dodge Avenger including your SXT. I have included a link to a video showing installation. The model in the video has single exhaust but installation for dual exhaust models would basically be the same. If you plan on doing any towing then the correct ball mount to use is # 3594. For a 1-7/8 inch ball you can use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring use # 118577. If you want to use the...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for a 2008 Sebring Convertible
  • You are correct the Draw-Tite 1-1/4 inch hitch # 24871 will be a great choice for your vehicle. I can help you with choosing a bike rack. I would highly recommend the Thule 2-Bike Helium # TH9042. The distance from center of hitch pin hole to back of upright mast is 14-3/8 inches, see linked image. This would certainly be enough clearance for the convertible top to be opened or closed with the bikes loaded and without having to tilt the bike rack away from the vehicle. The Thule...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2013 Chrysler 200
  • To be able to transport your Permobil C300 electric wheelchair with your 2013 Chrysler 200 convertible, I recommend installing a trailer hitch and wiring harness on your vehicle and using a mobility chair trailer. The trailer hitch I recommend for you is the Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Hitch # 24871. The recommended drawbar for this hitch is # 3594. A hitch ball compatible with the trailer coupler will be needed as well. You can use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter ball, or # 19258...

  • Carrying Snowboards on a Trailer Hitch or Roof Rack for a 2012 Chrysler 200
  • For a trailer hitch for your 2012 Chrysler 200, I recommend the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24871 because it does not require the use of a stabilization strap for non-trailer loads like the Curt hitch does. I have included a link to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. Because this is a Class I trailer hitch there are only certain bike racks that you can use. The HitchSki, # Y02418, only fits on certain Yakima 4-bike racks, none of which will fit in a Class...

  • Installation and Operation Instructions for the Curt Stabilization Strap on a 2013 Chrysler 200
  • I can help show you a little better what this strap will look like when installed on your vehicle. While there is no specific video to your 2013 Chrysler 200, I do have two videos that demonstrate the stabilization strap # 18050 be used with the non-trailer loads, which are going to be most commonly bike racks and cargo carriers. The Curt hitch # C11133 is a confirmed fit for your 200, but if you would rather not use a strap, like most customers don't when setting up your accessories,...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible with Dual Exhaust
  • Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24871 will fit your 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible with dual exhaust. It can be used to tow a rental trailer. The hitch has a 2,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity but check the vehicle owners manual to the Sebring's capacity and go by whichever is lower. You will need the proper ball mount, part # 3594. To add a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring you can use # 118444 to add a 4-Way flat connector. I...

  • Hitch Compatibility with Dual Exhaust on 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible
  • The Curt Class I receiver you mentioned, part # C11081 is compatible with the Sedan model only. Draw-Tite tells me that their Class I receiver # 24871 is a fit for the 2008 Sebring Convertible, regardless of the exhaust set-up. To complete your towing set-up, you might also need the following: Vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole trailer connector, part # 118444 Drawbar # 3594 Pin and Clip # PC2 1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19256 or 2 inch trailer ball, part # 19258 To...

  • Lowering Exhaust and Using Fishwire to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2013 Dodge Avenger
  • First, to lower the exhaust, the first thing that our installers do is hang a support strap from one side of the vehicle to the other side to support the exhaust once it is off the hangers. To get the exhaust off of the rubber hangers you will need to spray them down with some lubricant like WD40. Then you can use a small pry bar or other flat tool to push the exhaust off the rubber part and then let it rest on the strap. To use the fish wire you will just thread the bolt onto the end,...

  • Is There a Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver Available for a 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible
  • The only trailer hitch receiver option for your 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible is the Draw-Tite Sportframe # 24871, which is only a Class I hitch. Due to the design of your Sebring, there are no Class II options available. This trailer hitch has a Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) of 2,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight (TW) of 200 lbs. I checked an online version of a manual for you Sebring and if had the same weight capacities that this hitch has, but you will want to check your copy of the owner's...

  • Selecting Correct Ball Mount for Use with Class II Hitch on 2010 Dodge Avenger
  • Your 2010 Dodge Avenger can be fitted with either a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch like Draw-Tite # 24871 or a higher-capacity Class II type like # 36448. If you have a Class I hitch you need to use the recommended ball mount shown on the hitch page, but if you have a Class II hitch like # 36448 you can select a compatible Class II ball mount with the specific amount of height rise or drop you need to keep the hitched trailer level and with the length you need for good clearance between...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Cargo Carrier for 2011 Chrysler 200
  • For your 2011 Chrysler 200, we have a confirmed fit for both the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24871 and the Curt # C11133. The Draw-Tite hitch will be recessed too far under your bumper for a cargo carrier, so I recommend the Curt hitch which will require stabilizer strap # 18050 and has a measurement of 4-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the outermost part of the bumper. You will simply need a Class I rated cargo carrier with the closest part of the rack...
