Question:

I have a 2011 Scion TC and need to move a 4x8 rental trailer. Can you tell me all the parts needed for the process, including if I most likely needed a tow ball hitch, extension for the hitch and wiring harness?

The basic components required to tow a trailer are the trailer hitch, ball mount, pin and clip, hitch ball and wiring harness to operate the trailer lights. I have linked for you two articles on towing; one covers the items needed and the other offers guidance for safe towing practices.

We offer several brands of 1-1/4-inch Class I hitches, and all can be seen on the link provided. Since all three are rated equally I suggest the cost-effective Draw-Tite # 24815. I've included a hitch install video as well as the written instructions. You can use ball mount # 3593, which includes the pin and clip, and either 1-7/8-inch hitch ball # 19256 or 2-inch ball # 19258 depending on the size of the coupler on the trailer you'll be using.

For trailer wiring you can use Curt Circuit Protected Converter w/ SMT # C56175. The install video provided shows a different vehicle, but the process will be essentially identical on your Scion.

It's a good idea to check your owner's manual for any guidance related to use of trailers.
