Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Ford F-150

Today on this 2011 Ford F-150 we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13368. Before we get started with our installation, we are going to go ahead and show you a couple of the final install dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 21-1/2 inches. And from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 4 inches. And now we will go ahead and move on to our installation. 0:25

Alright, we are up underneath the vehicle and the first thing we have done is to go ahead and lower the spare tire down to give us a little bit more working room. We are going to start off over here on the driver side of the vehicle and go ahead and point out the attaching points that we are going to be using to put our hitch on our vehicle. If you look towards the end of the frame, attaching the frame to the bumper are these large bumper brackets here. These bumper brackets have a couple of holes in them. The first one at the rear side of the bumper bracket is an oblong hole and this will be our rearmost attaching point for our trailer hitch. And then if you follow forward on the vehicle, on the side of the bracket there is a large round hole there. And that will be our second and final attaching point over here on the driver side of the vehicle. And that setup is going to be the same on the passenger side as well. 1:14

We are going to start by attaching to the rearmost attaching point on the bumper bracket. And we will through there the 1/2 inch hex bolt along with the flat washer. And then we will attach on the back side with the 1/2 inch flange nut. So with that, we can actually go ahead and put our hitch up in position now. We are just going to leave that just a little loose until we get the other set of hardware in. And with the two rearmost bolts put in on the driver and passenger sides we will go to the forward side of the bracket now and the hardware for the larger hole. We will be using the same size hex bolt along with the flat washer. And we are actually going to it in from the outboard side of the bracket towards the middle of the vehicle. Take two of the flat washers, go ahead and inset them onto the bolt. And that is actually going to go in between the bracket and the hitch to kind of help shim up some of the excess space. Next we will take the provided block and the hex nut. You will probably notice that we have a fairly large gap in between the hitch and the bracket. But when we tighten the bolt down it will pull the two together. Go ahead and repeat that for the passenger side and then we are ready to tighten our bolts down. 2:55

And then with our bolts tightened down we are just going to go back through and torque each one of the bolts down. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each one of the bolts. And then with the bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure we put our spare tire back up into place and our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of Curt hitch part number 13368 on a 2011 Ford F-150.

I really had no idea the install would go just like the etrailer.com instructions and video showed. I'm a very very senior citizen and decided to try the installation myself. I used a couple of strong plastic buckets to support the receiver in my carport, and then just followed instructions. I did purchase a couple of large gold heavy grade to supplement the parts that were included. Twenty six minutes later the hitch was installed. I never expected such a great installation. Great product!! 147282

Easy to install. Fit perfectly and took an hour to install only because I had a torn shoulder. I got the receiver for my truck so that I will be able to pull a trailer with my Boy Scout equipment for camping and training. 496278

Looks like a very good hitch and the installation was straightfoward. The estimate of 30minutes for installation is very optimistic for average recreational mechanics 123539

I am pleased with the hitch I received from etrailer. It fit like a glove. However, the instructions left something to be desired. First, I had no clue why I was to put two washers between the frame and hitch. Moreover, there were two different sized washers with the hitch. I had to guess which went where. Then the square washers were too small to cover the holes in my frame. It took longer to install it than the 15 minutes shown on the instructions. For the most part though, I am pleased with the product. 117271

Fit my 2012 F150 perfect. Didn't remove spare and still had on by myself in 20 min. Nice to have a few jack stands to hold in position while you attach to truck. Great product! Only negative a few of the bolts had small burrs on the threads from rolling around in plastic baggie. 57787

Curt trailer hitch had a great price and etrailer made the shipping cost right for quick delivery. I viewed the video prior to receipt of the hitch. The video was good and I had no problems installing the hitch by myself, with the proper tools. I did not need to remove the spare tire and because my truck sits high, did not use any kind of a lift. Easily install in within the thirty minutes. It all looks good on my new truck! 10701

trailer hitch this site had accurate pictures of the hitchs, unlike some other. It also accuratly listed the correct hitch for my model of truck which was not the case on some other site, luckly I knew what I needed. The only problem I had was one of the mounting ears was sticking out of the packing box and was bent, better packing or gentler shippers? I am a metal worker and a little time on the anvil fixed my problem. 4235

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • How Will Available Curt Hitches for 2010 Ford F150 Install in Relation to the Rear Bumper
  • Curt actually offers three different hitches for a 2010 F150 (see link). Part # 13368 is a Class III with a square tube crossbar and # 13371 is a Class III with a round tube crossbar. Both hitches have a 600 lb tongue weight, 6000 lb towing capacity. A class IV, part # C14002 with a 1000 lb tongue weight 10000 lb towing capacity is also available. You can see the installation instructions for all three hitches by clicking on the provided links. As you can see by the instructions,...

  • Is Towing With A Hitch Better Than Towing With A Ball Mounted To Bumper
  • Normally a bumper is rated at about 3500 lbs towing capacity. It is usually stamped somewhere on the bumper or possibly on a sticker. A frame mounted hitch is going to have more capacity for towing due to how it is installed. Also, most trailers will have a towing height of 17 to 19 inches, and a bumper on a truck will typically be around 20 inches. If the trailer is attached to the bumper and the nose of the trailer tongue is higher it can introduce sway when towing. It is better to...

  • Trailer Hitch and 4- to 7-Way Trailer Connector for a 2014 Ford F-150 with 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Engine
  • The most popular trailer hitch for your 2014 Ford F-150 is Curt hitch # C14002. This hitch is probably going to be rated much higher than your truck can tow (up to 12,000 pounds using weight distribution) so if you are looking for something with a little lower capacity # 13368 would be a good option. It is rated for 600 pounds tongue weigh and 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. When used with weight distribution it is rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight and 10,000 pounds gross trailer...

  • What is Towing Capacity of 2018 Ford F-150 When Towed From Ball Hole in Rear Bumper
  • I did some checking and it looks like the towing capacity of your 2018 Ford F-150 when using the rear bumper ball hole is 5,100 lbs. As long as your trailer weighs less than that you'd be fine.

  • Can Trailer Hitches for 2009 Ford F-150 Be Used with Weight Distribution to Tow More than 6,000 lbs.
  • All of the hitches available for the 2009 Ford F-150 are rated for 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 600 pounds tongue weight capacity. However, all of the available hitches (see link) are rated for use with weight distribution which will allow the hitch to tow 10,000 pounds (# 13368) to 12,000 pounds (# 75691) depending on the hitch. These are ratings for the hitch, but not the truck. You will need to check the owners manual to determine if a weight distribution system can be used...

  • Sounds like you have the Curt Class III Hitch # 13368, with a 600lb tongue weight. I have a solution for you, but it is not the Curt cargo carrier # C18152 you were looking at. I would instead recommend the MaxxTow 30x50 Wheel Chair Carrier with a 60 inch long ramp # MT70260. This rack will allow you to have a ramp to help load the 405lb wheel chair that you have. • Can Flat Bed Directly Tow with Bumper
  • In your photo it looks like there could be a hitch ball hole in the cross brace on the back of your Chevy flatbed. If you can find a sticker or plate that indicates a tow rating, and a hitch ball of the appropriate rating and with the shank diameter to fit correctly, then you can tow. It also looks like there is not a lot of clearance for the trailer coupler, due to the vertical support near that hole. A coupler like # CT-5003-Z has a flat lip around the ball cup and this may contact...
