Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Ball Mount 10" Drop, 7,500 lbs Feature Review

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Brophy ball mount for two inch hitches. Has the 10 inch drop and a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this is a nice, sturdy steel ball mount for two inch hitches, and it can be used in the drop position to fit your application. Total drop on this, which is measured from the ball platform to the top of the shank, you can see if we put a ruler on it, it's gonna be right at 10 inch drop.

Now, this ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. And because this has such a large drop of 10 inches, it is designed for lifted trucks. This shank right here will slide into your vehicle's two inch hitch receiver. And the ball platform right up front here provides the mounting point for your hitch ball. Now, the hitch ball is not included.

That is sold separately. The ball hole diameter that the ball fits in is one inch. So, it is designed to work with hitch balls that have a one inch shank diameter, and the thickness of the ball platform is 3/4 of an inch. Now, this ball mount cannot be used in the rise position, and it cannot be use with hitch extenders. Also, one other note I do wanna mention, use of any ball mount like this that has a 10 inch drop does reduce the trailer hitch capacity by 1/3.

So, your towing capacity is limited to 2/3 of your lowest rated towing component, be it the vehicle, the hitch, the ball mount, or your hitch ball. This is a nice, sturdy steel construction. You can see it has the hollow shank. It is a corrosion resistant black powder coat finish. And when you do install this into your hitch receiver, it will require a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock to secure it.

Now, that is not included. We do sell those separately on our website, and they're usually listed on this product page as a related product. The pin hole diameter is 5/8 of an inch, so you do wanna make sure to use a pin and clip or hitch lock that is a 5/8 inch diameter pin. Now, the length, the length in a ball mount is always measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball hole. So, on this one, if we go from the center to the center of the ball hole, that is right at 11 1/8 inches. And then the distance from the center of this hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the gusset, you can see they put this gusset in there for extra support, so just to make sure you don't run into any fitment problems, the center to that, to the start of the gusset is about 3 3/4 inches. Now, this part is made in the USA. Again, the specs on this, it's designed to fit two inch by two inch trailer hitch receivers. Gross towing weight capacity is 7,500 pounds, and the tongue weight capacity is 750 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Brophy ball mount for two inch hitches with the 10 inch drop and a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity..

  • Is It True That A Ball Mount With 10" Of Drop Should Be De-Rated To 2/3 Of The Weight Capacity?
That is an interesting question. I can honestly say that we have not heard of this rule before. It does make sense though, that a ball mount with a 10" or larger drop could not hold as much weight as one with less drop. We ran this question by the folks at Brophy to get the official word. We were told that all of their ball mounts including the # BM10 are rated based on the drop. So the de-rating is already factored in to the listed weight capacity, and you do not need to calculate anything...

  • Ball Mount with the Most Drop for a 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch
I have not seen a 1-1/4 inch ball mount that offered 12 inches of drop. The most that we have is a 6 inch drop # C45028 (Class I or II) or # BM96 (Class I). If this is for a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee I recommend switching to a Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch, # 13251, so you can use a ball mount with more drop such as # AMSC12.

  • Towing Capacity of Fixed Ball Mounts
The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" hitches - 8-3/4" Rise - 10" Drop - 8,000 lbs item # AMSC10 that was previously referenced is a superior hitch to the Brophy 10" drop item # BM10. It is a stronger reinforced hitch that has a higher weight capacity of 8,000 lbs over the Brophy which only has a 7,500 lbs limit. The use of the Convert-A-Ball fixed mount item # AMSC10 will not reduce your vehicle, hitch, or hitch balls towing capacity. For a fixed ball mount with a 5" rise I recommend the...

  • Fixed 2" Ball Mount w/ 10-3/4" Rise and 12" Drop
Yes, we do carry multiple hitches, ball mounts, that are similar to the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches item # AMSC12 you were looking at. The closest comparable product would be the Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount 10" Drop, 7,500 lbs item # BM10. If you have some more specific requirements please email me back with them and I can make a better recommendation. I have linked our entire selection of fixed ball mounts below.

  • Availability of Ball Mount that Has 10 inches of Drop
Hey Roger, the closest option we have is the Brophy part # BM10 which has a 10 inch drop but it does not have a 10k capacity as it is rated only for 7,500 lb.

  • Correct Use of Roadmaster 10 Inch High-Low Hitch Adapter
Tow bars are used behind motorhomes or trucks to tow a vehicle. The Roadmaster 10 inch High - Low Hitch Adapter, part number RM-048-10, is not designed to have tongue weight applied to it like when towing a boat trailer, utility trailer or camper. This adapter is designed for applications where the towed vehicle is resting on its own four wheels and being pulled by another vehicle with a tow bar. We do have ball mounts with a 10 inch drop or more and adjustable draw bars that will allow...

  • Trailer Ball Mount With 10-1/2 Drop
I assume you mean a ball mount made for a (Class-3) 2" hitch receiver with a 10-1/2" drop. The Brophy # BM10 ball mount with 10" drop is rated for 7500 trailer weight and 750 pounds tongue weight. The mount is designed for hitch balls with 1" shank diameter. If you need a 1-7/8" hitch ball the Draw-Tite # 19260 chrome hitch ball would be good. If you need a 2" hitch ball the Curt # 40038 chrome hitch ball would be a good fit. Finally, if you need a 2-15/16" hitchball, the Curt # C40007...

  • Anti-Rattle Device to Stop Rattle and Movement of a Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
We have several different anti-rattle devices that you could use to reduce or maybe even eliminate rattle of the rack in the hitch. First, many bike racks now come with a threaded bolt or anti-rattle device of some kind. If you can tell me the bike rack you have I can see if there is one specifically made for it. I recommend the No-Rattle clamp, # RM-061-125 as it will fit 1-1/4 inch hitches and accessories and the bike rack shank can be solid or hollow. Or order # MPG908 for 2 inch....

  • What is Clearance From Hitch Pin Hole to Welded Gusset on Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount # BM10
On the Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount # BM10 the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the welded support gusset is 3-3/4. Please note that use of this ball mount with its 10-inch drop will have the effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by 1/3. It can neither be used with extenders nor used in an inverted position. I checked all available ball mounts with 10-inches of drop (all can be seen on the link provided) but none offers the 5-1/4-inches of clearance...

  • Availability of 10 inch Drop Ball Mount for 2 inch Hitch
The Brophy Ball Mount part # BM10 is a 10 inch drop ball mount like you are looking for with a 7,500 lb trailer capacity. For a 2 inch ball then you'd want the part # 63845.

  • Ball Mount With 10" Drop for Tow Dolly
I believe you are asking about a ball mount with a 10" drop and I recommend checking out the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # AMSC10. This ball mount fits 2" receivers, has a maximum 10" drop and a weight capacity of 8,000 lbs. You will need Pin and Clip # PC3, and for a 2" hitch ball you will need # 40038; if you needed a 2-5/16" hitch ball the correct part is # C40007.

  • Availability of 2-Inch Ball Mount with 10-Inches of Drop
For a 2-inch ball mount with 10-inches of drop you can refer to the linked page which displays fixed ball mounts like # AMSC10, which offers 10-inches of drop or 8-3/4-inches of rise. This ball mount measures 11-1/2-inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. For a similar adjustable ball mount with 10-inches of maximum drop you might prefer Convert-a-Ball # TK5007 which provides 13-inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. A second link to adjustable ball mounts is provided...
