Video Transcript for Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount Review

Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Brophy Ball Mount. This is gonna be for your two-inch hitch receivers, and it is gonna have a capacity of 7,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 750 pounds of tongue weight. This is gonna give us an aggressive drop, about 10 inches, and this can only be used in no drop position. One thing about any ball mounts that has a 10-inch drop, we are going to cut the hitches capacity by a third. So my hitch right here is rated for 12,000 pounds. So with the 10-inch drop, I'm only gonna be able to haul about 8,000 pounds with the hitch receiver, which actually isn't a big deal just because the ball mount is rated for 7500 and 750.

And now this is rated for 8,000 and 850 tongue weight. So we're totally good there, but just make sure that we don't go over that capacity if your hitch is maybe rated a little bit less than mine. Whatever component has the smallest rating, that's gonna be the max rating that you can put the system to. So you just wanna be nice and safe. And with the ball mount, it's not gonna come with a hitch pin and clip.

So you do have to grab one of those. Just grip one that is about 5/8 in diameter. But what I do suggest is getting one that has a anti-rattle system in it because that's extremely annoying. I do a lot of mowing and whenever my windows are down, I can just hear this throughout the whole entire drive. It doesn't sound good.

And when I show up to these lots really early in the morning, I feel bad cause it's kind of loud. So definitely grab an anti-rattle device. And with this shank, it's hollow. So there are a couple of different ways to take out all of that play. One, you can get a little insert that goes in here, has a threaded portion.

And then it comes with a little bolt. You will need a tool to tighten it down, but that will stabilize the ball mount and your hitch so you don't have to hear that. There's also another one, which if you have multiple different accessories that need to be stabilized, the one we designed, it actually just clamps around right here and pushes down on it. So you can use it with multiple different accessories. And again, you're gonna have to have a tool to tighten all that down, but once it's on there, it's good. So definitely recommend grabbing that and also just grab a locking one just because all you have to do is just pull that and that, and then the ball mount isn't yours anymore. We'd like to think that people aren't gonna steal our stuff but there's a reason why we make locks. So definitely grab one of those. And then with the trailer ball, it doesn't come with it. So you do have to grab one and just make sure that it's gonna be at least rated for what your hitch is or your ball mount is just because we don't wanna limit ourselves because the lowest component is the max rating that we can have. When you are looking for the trailer ball, we do wanna make sure that the diameter of the shank is gonna match the diameter of the hole on our ball mount, which is this, is about one inches in diameter. So definitely pair that up together. We have a lot of different types of trailer balls, just pick whatever is the right size for you. You do wanna look at your coupler just to confirm that you're grabbing the right size so you can actually haul your trailer that you plan on hauling. So we have everything you need here. If I we're to give a suggestion for an upgrade for this, I mean really any 10-inch ball mount that has a drop, you're gonna have to have your hitches capacity cut in half. I think this is gonna be a great option. It's a really low entry level type ball mount, but it just gets the job done. So if you just want the bare bones to get the job done, the Brophy is gonna be a great choice for you. And again, that was our look at the Brophy 10-inch drop trailer ball mount..

Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

by:

Love “etrailer” !! Always have what is ordered and send the item very timely. I always check with etrailer first as they are well stocked. Thank you etrailer.com!! Also George!

by:

Great hitch. Just what I wanted. This will keep my utility trailer "on the level".

by:

I ordered a 10 drop ball mount, a wheel chock to hold my motorcycle and a master lock ball lock to use when the trailer is parked. I am very happy with the purchase, the ball mount and the wheel chock have good looking welds and they are power coated, the security lock is polished stainless. I am real happy with my purchase. the sales person, ( Karen in this case ) was knowledgable on the products, I qualified for free shipping, was given an email and tracking number, so I knew at all times were my shipment was in route. The products were packages well with no damage and UPS did an outstanding job of meet their stated schedule for delivery, out standing. The purchase and delivery proves to me American Business can excel and they really did with my order.

by:

Certainly a solid piece. The only class IV 10” drop there is out there.

by:

The products I purchased are of good quality and the 10" drop ball mount was exactly as advertised. The only problem I have is with the amount of dimension information provided on your website for the sway control bracket that did not fit on the ball mount itself. Your website states that the ball mount is a class III mount and that the sway control bracket would fit on class III and class IV mounts when in fact it does not. Other than that I am satisfied with the quality, cost and delivery of my products.

My 10 inch drop ball mount that I ordered was delivered on time and well packaged! I will order again from etrailer.com!

Working out great!

by:

This replaces an adjustable hitch that rattled, clattered, and banged so much it drove me crazy. I use this to pull small trailers with astronomical equipment in them, with the old hitch the trailers would swing side to side enough the items inside the trailer would shift position and rub on other items.

by:

Got the help I needed (from Gwen) to identify and confirm my understanding of what I needed (receiver hitch with a 10 inch drop) and then placing the order. I was then very happy with the quick shipping and delivery. Although the estimated delivery was a week and a half later, I actually received the hitch only 2 days later.

by:

Very impressed with etrailer. The product was in stock. They kept me informed every step of the way. When delivered (on time) the hitch and ball were in perfect condition. To top it off, etrailer sent me an email telling me the shipment was delivered on my porch. Best service I have gotten from internet shopping. This is the first review I have ever writtten - tells how impressed I was.

by:

I recently bought a new Subaru Ascent and it had a class three hitch and a high ground clearance as compared to my old Honda Pilot. I needed to drop the ball 10 inches to tow my boat. Found exactly what I needed at etrailer! The ball mount appears well made and sturdy, and quite a bit heavier than I expected. Looks like it will last forever!

by:

I have put this hitch through torture from pulling heavy loads to snatching and pulling friends out of bad situations . I can't bend or break this hitch , best money I ever spent .

by:

Product is great, and delivered exactly as described. etrailer.com did an excellent job with customer service. Communication was top notch. This was a customer service test for etrailer.com and they passed with flying colors. I will do business with them again.

by:

Shipped promptly and appears to be of excellent quality. Haven't towed with it yet but anticipate no problems. Got it to drop hitch 10" foot to tow a car dolly.

by:

This 10" drop enables my 4WD Ram with 20 inch rims to hook up to my car hauler and have it be level. The order arrived on time.

by:

Product is exactly what I ordered. If there is a concern about the gusset clearance to your hitch and the pin not lining up, mine clears with room to spare. Shipping was quick and another great eTrailer experience.

by:

Ball mount with 10 inch drop is great, but it arrived with half of it sticking out of the box. Just some minor scratches in the paint. Stronger packaging needed.

by:

Product is just as advertised heavy duty, well made.Fast delivery and packaged well. Always great service from this outfit keep up the excellent service etrailer.

by:

Product appears to be as advertised - very sturdy and well constructed. Also it arrived quickly with no delay to my doorstep. Packaged well. Will come back aftr I have had time to actually use this product but for now I am going with a review of 5 out of 5.

by:

by:

Etrailer had exactly what I needed and delivered shockingly fast. You've completely exceeded my expectations. I've already put in another order. Very well done!

by:

Does exactly what I need it to. Have '06 explorer pulling a motor cycle trailer - have to keep it level and this did the trick

by:

Great product. Very satisfied with purchase and delivery. Thank you for making shopping online a great experience.

by:

  • What is Clearance From Hitch Pin Hole to Welded Gusset on Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount # BM10
On the Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount # BM10 the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the welded support gusset is 3-3/4. Please note that use of this ball mount with its 10-inch drop will have the effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by 1/3. It can neither be used with extenders nor used in an inverted position. I checked all available ball mounts with 10-inches of drop (all can be seen on the link provided) but none offers the 5-1/4-inches of clearance...

The Brophy 2-inch Ball Mount # BM10 measures 3-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the gusset weld seam. The photo provided includes this measurement.

  • Fixed 2" Ball Mount w/ 10-3/4" Rise and 12" Drop
Yes, we do carry multiple hitches, ball mounts, that are similar to the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches item # AMSC12 you were looking at. The closest comparable product would be the Brophy Trailer Hitch Ball Mount 10" Drop, 7,500 lbs item # BM10. If you have some more specific requirements please email me back with them and I can make a better recommendation. I have linked our entire selection of fixed ball mounts below.

  • Ball Mount with 10 inch Drop for 2 inch Hitch that Can fit 1-7/8 inch Hitch Ball
We have ball mounts with a 10 inch drop like part # AMSC10 which have a 1 inch diameter ball hole that you can then use a 1-7/8 ball # C40002.

  • Towing Capacity of Fixed Ball Mounts
The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" hitches - 8-3/4" Rise - 10" Drop - 8,000 lbs item # AMSC10 that was previously referenced is a superior hitch to the Brophy 10" drop item # BM10. It is a stronger reinforced hitch that has a higher weight capacity of 8,000 lbs over the Brophy which only has a 7,500 lbs limit. The use of the Convert-A-Ball fixed mount item # AMSC10 will not reduce your vehicle, hitch, or hitch balls towing capacity. For a fixed ball mount with a 5" rise I recommend the...

  • Ball Mount with the Most Drop for a 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch
I have not seen a 1-1/4 inch ball mount that offered 12 inches of drop. The most that we have is a 6 inch drop # C45028 (Class I or II) or # BM96 (Class I). If this is for a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee I recommend switching to a Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch, # 13251, so you can use a ball mount with more drop such as # AMSC12.

  • Availability of 2-Inch Ball Mount with 10-Inches of Drop
For a 2-inch ball mount with 10-inches of drop you can refer to the linked page which displays fixed ball mounts like # AMSC10, which offers 10-inches of drop or 8-3/4-inches of rise. This ball mount measures 11-1/2-inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. For a similar adjustable ball mount with 10-inches of maximum drop you might prefer Convert-a-Ball # TK5007 which provides 13-inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. A second link to adjustable ball mounts is provided...

  • Availability of 10 inch Drop Ball Mount for 2 inch Hitch
The Brophy Ball Mount part # BM10 is a 10 inch drop ball mount like you are looking for with a 7,500 lb trailer capacity. For a 2 inch ball then you'd want the part # 63845.

  • Correct Use of Roadmaster 10 Inch High-Low Hitch Adapter
Tow bars are used behind motorhomes or trucks to tow a vehicle. The Roadmaster 10 inch High - Low Hitch Adapter, part number RM-048-10, is not designed to have tongue weight applied to it like when towing a boat trailer, utility trailer or camper. This adapter is designed for applications where the towed vehicle is resting on its own four wheels and being pulled by another vehicle with a tow bar. We do have ball mounts with a 10 inch drop or more and adjustable draw bars that will allow...

  • Ball Mount With 10" Drop for Tow Dolly
I believe you are asking about a ball mount with a 10" drop and I recommend checking out the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # AMSC10. This ball mount fits 2" receivers, has a maximum 10" drop and a weight capacity of 8,000 lbs. You will need Pin and Clip # PC3, and for a 2" hitch ball you will need # 40038; if you needed a 2-5/16" hitch ball the correct part is # C40007.

  • Anti-Rattle Device to Stop Rattle and Movement of a Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
We have several different anti-rattle devices that you could use to reduce or maybe even eliminate rattle of the rack in the hitch. First, many bike racks now come with a threaded bolt or anti-rattle device of some kind. If you can tell me the bike rack you have I can see if there is one specifically made for it. I recommend the No-Rattle clamp, # RM-061-125 as it will fit 1-1/4 inch hitches and accessories and the bike rack shank can be solid or hollow. Or order # MPG908 for 2 inch....

I assume you mean a ball mount made for a (Class-3) 2" hitch receiver with a 10-1/2" drop. The Brophy # BM10 ball mount with 10" drop is rated for 7500 trailer weight and 750 pounds tongue weight. The mount is designed for hitch balls with 1" shank diameter. If you need a 1-7/8" hitch ball the Draw-Tite # 19260 chrome hitch ball would be good. If you need a 2" hitch ball the Curt # 40038 chrome hitch ball would be a good fit.
