  • Tough Steel That Lasts: Case-hardened low-carbon steel rollers stand up to occasional winter use.

Features to know about

Need Extra Grip for Unexpected Snow: Low-Profile Rollers Add Smooth Traction

When light snow catches you off guard, these Glacier cable tire chains give your tires the bit of bite they need to keep you moving safely. The ladder-style pattern helps with forward traction on snow-covered roads, and the low-profile rollers wrap around sturdy wire cables to keep your ride smoother than bulky chain links. They’re perfect to have on hand when the forecast turns quickly or when chain laws require you to carry a set.

Tight Clearance Around Your Wheels: Class S Design Fits Where Others Can’t

Plenty of newer vehicles don’t leave much room behind the tires. These cables meet SAE Class S standards, so they’re built for vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance. Their slim build clears suspension components while still meeting Department of Transportation requirements in all states. That means you get legal traction help without risking contact or damage inside the wheel well.

Simple to Carry and Install: Lightweight Build with Integrated Lever

These cables are lightweight and easy to work with, which makes a big difference when you’re putting them on in the cold. The integrated heavy-duty lever lets you connect and tighten them quickly—no need to drive over them first. Keep them in the reusable tote so they’re ready for those “just-in-case” trips through mountain passes or rural snow routes.

Rubber adjusters connected in a star pattern on Glacier Cable Tire Chains to maintain tight fit and prevent slack during driving

Built to Last Through Occasional Winter Use: Case-Hardened Low-Carbon Steel

Even though these are compact cables, they’re made tough. Each spring roller is wrapped around a strong wire cross cable and constructed from case-hardened, low-carbon steel. That hard outer layer helps resist wear and rust, while the flexible inner core absorbs stress to keep the rollers from cracking. With a bit of care—drying them after use—they’ll be ready whenever snow season rolls in again.

Keeps a Smooth Ride at Legal Speed: Designed for Light Snow and On-Road Use

Because these are tire cables and not heavy chains, they stay stable up to 30 mph and give you smoother handling on plowed or packed-snow roads. They’re intended for on-road driving in light snow, not for off-road or deep-snow work. Use optional rubber adjusters for a snug fit, and you’ll have reliable traction that gets you where you need to go without harsh vibration or bounce.

Note

  • Usage note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

by:

Have not used or installed but quality looks good.
Shipping could not be better, ordered Sunday afternoon and received Tuesday.

by:

I ordered these cable chains for our truck in preparation for an upcoming trip into snow country. They arrived in a most prompt manner. Thank you for your expeditious processing of my order.

by:

Fortunately I have not had to use them. However after receiving them I did try one on a front tire and them seem fairly easy to install

by:

Just as advertised. Excellent service from the moment the order was placed. Great getting emails each step & a tracking number. Seemless & a day ahead of schedule. They'll be great for Colorado incase they're needed.

by:

Produc as describe, fast shipping very god treatment to costumers

by:

These are very easy to install and etrailer's customer service and follow up is excellent.

by:

I'm sure the items that were ordered will be of the same quality as all your items, it's a X-MAS gift wife refuses to let me have it till Dec 25th. Thanks for the fast shipping, great communication. Merry Christmas Ho ho ho

by:

Product as shown, customer service from Heidi was great, she followed up and helped me when my original choice was out of stock. Offered alternate and then followed up with shipping info etc.

by:

Happy and enjoying my new snow tires chains...

by:

Etrailer was 1st class to deal with. The product arrived much quicker than I expected. For my 2nd product now on order - Mary was very helpful and responsive in providing me the specific product that I needed to order.

by:

Great value and much more reasonable than Tire store prices. Easy to install (easier not to have to need them but safer to have when necessary).
Super service from etrailer people.

by:

Great service, ordering and getting them in. Haven't had to use them yet and hope I won't but tried them on the truck and the fit uus fine. The chains/cables looked made but the reason I am only giving 4 stars is the storage bags were bsrle able to fit the chains in from the factory. I just about had to peal the chains out and they are impossible to be rerolled and reinstated. I was able to fit them in empty sand bags. I just feel for that kind of money they could provide a better bag.

by:

Haven't worn them in the snow yet. But tried one on for size in the driveway. Looked like they may be too tight in circumference to use on my P275/60 R20 original equipment tires/wheels

by:

This is the second time I've ordered cables from etrailer. First-time cables were damaged (I was driving 45-50 miles per hour on a somewhat icy road), but the last one I got served me well, as long as the speed is maintained to 35-45 mph, you are good

by:

Great stire, great customer service. I highly recommend etrailer. The chains are exactly as described.

by:

I fit the cables to the tires and they're fine in that respect and they appear to be a good and stout. I did have trouble with the lever-lock. When the cables are tight the radius of the cables around the tire make it difficult to hook the lever-lock in the closed position due to the small gap between the "two hooks" on the lever-lock. With the cables matching the curve of the tire the cable does not fit easily between the two "hooks". It would seem just one "hook" would be sufficient as the tension is applied to the lever-lock in only one direction. I don't understand why there is a hook going the other way too. With a bit of deft filing I opened the gap enough to hook the lever-lock in position with much less difficulty. Without the alteration, working that lever-lock closed on a dark, freezing night would have been much less fun.

Thanks for sharing. Although, the warranty on the chains will not be effective once you have modified them and you can no longer return them, so I cannot recommend filing. At the 2:00 mark of this installation video it shows the installer having a bit of trouble putting the lever-lock onto the cable as you are saying.

by:

The cable chains fit my truck really well and are pretty simple to install. I purchased them for an upcoming trip up north for vacation. Not sure if I'll need them but don't want to be without them if I do. I'll prolly be giving 5 stars after I use them. The buying process and customer service and communication are great also.

by:

Product was in backorder but arrived sooner than expected. As always well-packaged. Installing is mostly straightforward but the etrailer video was very helpful as the instructions printout has somewhat blurry images. Chains require some crawling under the veh8icle: strongly recommend doing a dry run in your driveway to figure out how many notches to use on the inside of the tire.

Always appreciate the customer focus at etrailer: I had a pre-buy question about fit to my Nissan Titan that was promptly and accurately answered.

by:

they look to be well made compared to others I have ran in the past! Only four star today. The problem I have is they will not fit on the front of my new 2025 Ram Rebel do to clearance issues but should be fine for the rear. I pull a 27' inclosed trailer down a road that has some nasty hills with tight turns that can have bad ice conditions so I like to put these on the front of my four wheel drive Ram for steering and to help pull up the hills

by:

Worked way better than the chains (Titan chain HD) I bought initially from etrailer. I have a 2021 F150 Platinum with the 20" tires and the chains would not stay on the treads no matter what I tried. Just tried these ladder cables in Tahoe and they stayed on the tires just fine. The only downside to these over the chains is that they aren't continuous in the tire so when the road is clear (no snow) they ride crazy rough. It's like driving over 1/2" diameter sticks spaced 1 ft apart down the road so it feels pretty bad. But they were effective in helping me drive up and down my access road that was covered in deep snow one day and ice another day, they got the job done and stayed in place. Oh, I also used them with a set of bungee tensioners from etrailer for full disclosure.

I am glad that these chains will fit your tire. I love your review, however I wanted to ask you a question. Typically, you would want to remove them when driving on bare pavement. Do you have them on all the time?

Michael profile picture

Michael

1/18/2023

Yes, definitely dont WANT to drive on clear pavement with them, but in California where there are chain controls you are forced to put them on for certain sections of road and sometimes those sections are only partially covered with patchy snow. So when you end up on hard pavement at times, its a rough ride with these. Alternatively, if you know you are heading from paved streets into some snowy side streets, you may want to put the chains on at a corner lot where its easier before heading into unplowed sections of road. That may also mean you drive a little bit on pavement before you get to the snowy parts.

  • What Tire Chains and Tighteners do You Recommend for My 2017 Ford F-350 with 275/70-18 Tires?
From the sound of your question, I assume you meant the # PW3029C instead of "TC3029C." Also, it sounds like you have size 275/70-18 tires on your 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty (single rear wheel). Per the Ford user's manual, I recommend only using Class S approved accessories. With that being said, if you want better traction and grip, I always recommend going with tire chains over cables. For this reason, I recommend the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Steel Rollers...

  • Will Titan Chain Mud Service Tire Chains Fit 2021 Ford F-250
Hi Thomas; the Titan Chain Mud Service Tire Chains # TC2439 do not fit 275/70R18 tires. Titan does make the 2440 which fits the 275/70R18 but we do not carry them. Even if we did, your owner's manual specifically states "Use only SAE Class S chains" and these are not class S compatible. The only chains we offer for this tire size that are Class S compatible are the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # KON24FR and Glacier Cable Tire Chains # PW3029C.

With that being said, the # TC3029 and # PW3029C will provide a little bit of traction to your BF Goodrich tires. If your owner's manual recommends against self-tensioners like the ones on the # KON24FR, it is better to find an alterative with no self-tensioner. Your owner's manual states that chains shouldn't be used with your given tire size due to the limited amount of clearance between the inside of the tire and the brake/suspension components. If you choose to use chains anyway due to local regulations where you can't use given roads without chains in place, I'd recommend going with Titan # TC751DC cable chains, due to the fact that they offer the most inside clearance (at least 15mm) of any chain options we offer for your tire size.
