How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement access door or adding a new one to your RV:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the access door mounts flush to the wall of your RV.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the access door's hatch to properly fit.

Today we are going to be taking a look at the Valterra electric cable hatch for RVs. This is for use with RV electrical cables up to 30-amps. It does come with the installation putty tape and the necessary mounting hardware to get it installed. The mounting hardware is going to be painted on the ends to match the coloring of the cable hatch. Now, the main door does swing fully open for easy access, and it's got the sliding door right here that allows the cable to pass through the main hatch when it's closed, or that main door when it's closed. You can also close that all the way, and that's going to keep unwanted items out of the stored area when your cable is not being used. Taking a look at the overall dimensions starting with the overall diameter. It's going to measure about 4 1/4 of an inch.
The overall depth from very back to very front is going to be pretty close to 2 3/8 of an inch. This unit does require a cutout for installation. That cutout is going to need to have a minimum diameter of about 2 7/8 of an inch. This is black in color. Your mount hole separation, so it's going to have three mounting holes. All of those are going to be separated on center by 3 and 3/16 of an inch.
That's the separation that we have apart from each hole on center. This area right here is going to give us a diameter of about 3/4 of inch. The main opening is going to give us a diameter of about 2 and 5/8 of an inch with an internal depth of pretty close to 2 inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Valterra electric cable hatch for Rvs.
