Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

The Konig XB-16 Pro tire chains are great all-purpose, winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these Konig chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks in the chains.

Connect the ends of the blue cable

2. Slide the chain behind the tire and connect the ends of the blue cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Connect the hook and link in front of the tire

3. Around front, connect the red hook to the red link.

Feed tensioning chain through clip

4. At the bottom of the tire, feed the tensioning chain through the large clip and tug it until it's tight.

Stretch the hook across the tire

5. Feed the tensioning chain through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire.

6. Drive forward around 325' (about the length of a football field) and stop. Check the chains and tighten them as needed.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing cables out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Dodge Ram Pickup

Very pleased with this purchase, I've done a few practice runs putting them on my Ram Promaster van but have not had to use them in a real snow situation in this 1st year (very happy with the ease of use factor and snug fit)

by:

I’ve been running this type of chain on all of my vehicles, including a motorhome for over 25 years they are the best

by:

Great set of chains. I was able to put on in the dark. It was a little trickier taking them off because you need to position the car so the link behind the wheel is accessible, but still easy to do.

by:
2019 Toyota RAV4

The product looks well made and of high quality hope not to need to use them but need it a set for upcoming trip. Fitted for a 2019 RAV4.

by:

Pricier than everything else, but attached well as advertised and functioned well.

by:
2021 Ram ProMaster 2500

Perfect fit, using the sizing guide, for my Promaster 2500 van. Heavier links and more secure tightening system than my previous chains. Love the easy fitting of these chains and no need to pull forward to get them on.

2017 Ford E-Series Cutaway

Installed for preparation. Went well. Had one cable connect point turn “in” instead of “out”. Caused chain to not quite fit on tire. Corrected and finished. 15 minutes without the issue. 31’ class C Ford E450.

by:

I am less than helpful as far as a product review, as I’ve not yet used these.
However, as a company, E-Trailer cannot be beat! I’ve ordered a few things from them, and now consider them my go-to place for car-related and trailer hitch- related things. This time I spoke with Geoff, who was very knowledgeable about tire chains in general and this one in particular. Im confident the product will work well.

by:
2011 Honda CR-V

My wife & I bought these for a wintertime trip to the Maritimes. We found them easy to apply to our front tires. Even though we didn’t get much use due to missing the first snow in Canada on the way back to the US, it is one of the questions you may be asked at the border crossing. Having these chains gave us peace of mind. I highly recommend them.

by:

Awesome product. I visited etrailer.com with no knowledge on snow chains for a class A rv. After perusing the website, I was able to find exactly what I needed. I was 100% confident with my purchase. I received it promptly in a compact carrying case.

by:

Fits very tight and useful for my applications, great quality

by:
2015 Honda CR-V

I got 2 sets of these snow chains and we survived the great California Winter Storm without too much trouble. We were able to go up to 35mph with these chains in the midst of a blizzard. Installation & Removal were fairly easy. Great Product.

by:
2017 Mazda CX-5

I was impressed by the great customer service! I have tried the chains on my 2017 Mazda CX5 and the chains appear to fit. My trip to snowy areas is in one week so I haven't tried the chains in the snow as yet, the only reason for my 4 stars instead of 5. I feel confident that they will work if needed. Thank you.

by:

Theses chains provide great traction on snow and ice. We use them periodically on a Toyota RAV4 for our 20% grade gravel driveway in the Colorado mountains.

by:

Good: Very easy installation. No tools required. The chain case have enough room for gloves & knee pads (I highly recommend) and screw drive & pliers (good to have, just in-case).
Bad: The included instruction lacks information of tire sizes that can be used with this item.

by:

The chains are a good design although I have only test fitted them so far. The case keeps the chain handy and easy to sort out if needed. I believe this kit will suit my needs just fine.

by:
2019 Ford Transit T250

They were exactly what I was looking for thank you for, a great product, fantastic service, and super fast delivery. Two thumbs up.

by:

Good product overall, only downside is the install, they are a little difficult to put on.
Used on my trailer while towing on snowy roads.

by:

I have a difficult car when it comes to snow chains.
You were the only site I went on that confirm that I had the correct ones.

by:

Works as advertised and etrailer was super helpful guiding me to choose the right option

by:

Very good product and a great experience ordering from e-trailer. Highly recommend!!

by:

Works as advertised and the instructions on the website were perfect!

If the tire size you have on your 2014 Nissan Rogue is 225/65-17 yes, the part # TH01571245 would be the correct size Thule tire chain for you. If instead you had the 225/60-18 you would want the part # TH01571247. I attached a review video for you to check out. • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2014 Nissan Rogue with 225/65-17 Tires
If the tire size you have on your 2014 Nissan Rogue is 225/65-17 yes, the part # TH01571245 would be the correct size Thule tire chain for you. For optimum traction for braking, turning, and accelerating you would want to use tire chains on all sets of wheels. However, just running one set of 2 chains on the drive wheels of a vehicle is acceptable as well. If you plan on doing a lot of snow driving for an extended period of time I would go with 2 sets. If it's mainly just for short trips...

  • Differences Between Konig XB16 and XG12 Snow Chains
One big difference between the XB16 chains like part # TH01571245 and XG12 chains like the # TH01594245 is the link size which is hinted at in the title of the chains. The XB16 requires 16 mm of clearance and the XG12 only requires 12 mm. They are similar styles of chains that use the same principals for install and tensioning but overall the XG12 is a bit easier. This is due to mainly the difference in the tensioning devices. The XG12 has a ratcheting setup on the tensioner which makes...
