Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Lionshead 14 inch by five inch aluminum margay trailer wheel with a five on four-and-a-half inch bolt pattern. And this is in a gun metal gray finish. Now this is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight, and rust proof. And we mentioned it's a margay series, which is a five spoke design.
And you can see it's a gun metal gray finish, and then they do a machine edge on the spokes and on the lip. They do use an automotive grade clear coat finish on the front to help protect from scuffs and scratches. And the size on this wheel is a 14 inch diameter, and we're gonna measure that. And the wheel diameter is always measured inside to inside. So if we take our tape measure, and if we go all the way across, you'll be able to see there's your 14 inch diameter.
The width is the same way. You're gonna measure inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat. There you can see is your five inch width. Now the bolt pattern on this wheel is a five on four-and-a-half inch bolt pattern. And if you want to measure a bolt pattern, that's an odd number of lugs, like in this case, five, what you'll want to do is pick any hole, let's say this one, and you're gonna measure across to either one of these holes.
But the trick is when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to. On this one, it'll measure four-and-a-half inches. So that means it's a five lug, four-and-a-half inch bolt pattern. Does use a wheel lug size of a half inch by 20, and the weight capacity on this wheel is 2,200 pounds. If you notice right up here, they do include a valve stem.
It's all included. Now it does not come with a center cap. If you do want a center cap, we do sell those separately on our website. You do wanna get a center cap that'll have the same diameter of this pilot hole right here, which is 3.19 inches. And this wheel does meet the DOT Department of Transportation specifications and the SAE J1204 standards. But that should do it for our review on this Lionshead 14 inch by five inch aluminum margay trailer wheel with the five on four-and-a-half inch bolt pattern in a gun metal gray finish.
