1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Dexstar 16-inch by 6-inch silver modular heavy-duty steel trailer wheel with the eight on 6-1/2-inch bolt pattern. Now this wheel is a sturdy steel construction. It is the modular design, and when we say modular design, that's the one that has the round holes all the way around the wheel. This wheel has excellent corrosion resistance because they use a two-step finishing process, which will include first an E-coat primer and then a white powder coat finish over the E-coat primer. This is a high-quality wheel, does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation, specifications.
Now if you notice the center cap is not included. We do sell center cap separately if you do want one. You just wanna make sure to get a center cap. That'll have the same diameter as this pilot hole right here. And the diameter on this pilot hole is 4.9-inches.
Now this wheel is made by Dexstar, which means it is made in the USA. A few dimensions I wanna measure for you is the diameter and the width of the wheel. And when you measure the diameter, what you're actually measuring is inside to inside or bead seat to bead seat. Basically, when tires are mounted on this wheel, the bead of the tire's gonna seat right here. So what you're measuring for the diameter measurement is bead seat to bead seat.
So if we go inside to inside, you'll be able to see there's your 16-inch diameter and the width, it's gonna be the same way, bead seat to bead seat or inside to inside. And there's your 6-inch width. Now if you notice, this has a bolt pattern of eight on 6-1/2-inches. If you want to measure that on a wheel, that's an even number of lugs. It's pretty easy because if you notice the lug holes are directly across from each other.
So when you go to measure it, all you have to do is pick one of the holes. Let's say this one. Measure from the center of this hole directly across to the center of the hole right across from it. So on this wheel it'll measure 6-1/2-inches. So that means it's an eight lug, 6-1/2-inch bolt pattern. This will use a wheel lug size of 1/2-inch by 20 or 9/16 by 18. And we mentioned it's a heavy-duty wheel, and the reason it's a heavy-duty wheel, it does have a higher weight capacity than some of the other ones. This has a 4,400 pound weight capacity. But that should do it for a look at this Dexstar 16-inch by 6-inch silver modular heavy-duty steel trailer wheel with the eight on 6-1/2-inch bolt pattern.

Happy with the Rims, however the order arrived incomplete, valve stems did not arrive. etrailer did take care of the issue but we really wanted the valve stems for the installation process.

I purchased these rims because they're made in the USA. They're well made and are heavier due to increased load capacity. Rims were true and had very little run out, unlike the chinese made rims that came originally on my trailer. I would purchase these rims again.

2 sets of wheels are warped out of round. Made my trailer shake terribly bad. I believe this is a manufacturing defect. I have ran these wheels in the past with no issues but both sets received are out of round. Had to order a different brand unfortunately chinese wheel but at least they are not warped.
Bought a few of these for our 4 horse living quarters horse trailer. Trailer is super heavy when fully loaded. Wheels have been excellent. Would recommend etrailer.

Purchased these for spares for our horse trailer. They are heavy! Good strong rims. We are putting these on a 38 ft horse trailer with LQ. Each axel is rated at 7k so these rims were perfect for that.

I will be using these wheels on my horse trailer as well. My current wheels are gray but Im having trouble finding that color. Does the silver wheel that you ordered have a matte finish as opposed to shiny? I prefer the matte finish. Thanks for your help.
Exact replacement for my horse trailer. Had to buy a spare because BISON furnished a spare but it was 6 lug and not 8 lug. By the time I needed a spare it was out of warranty. Not a good time to find out it does not fit with horses in trailer and on side of the road. Word of advice to anyone! Something else to check before leaving the lot with a new trailer. Fast ship! Good heavy duty rim, exactly what I needed was packed very well and shipping was fast. I would recommend buying a rim from e trailer. If I need another rim will definitely get one from e trailer again.
