1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Dexstar 16-inch by 6-inch black conventional steel trailer wheel with the six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern. Now this wheel's a sturdy steel construction. It gives you excellent corrosion resistance 'cause they use a two-step finishing process, which first includes an E-coat primer and then they do a black powder coat finish over that. Now, I did mention this as a conventional design and that basically means it's an automotive style wheel that has the solid center design and it's designed to accept a full cover clip on hub cap or the snap on baby moon hub cap that'll cover just the center section of the wheel. This wheel is a high-quality wheel, does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation, specifications.
It is made by Dexstar, which means it does, that means it is made in the USA. A few dimensions I'm gonna measure for you. We're gonna measure the diameter and the width of the wheel. Now when you measure the diameter, what you're gonna measure is inside to inside. And basically the reason is 'cause when the tire is mounted on here, the tire beads you're gonna see right here.
So you're basically gonna measure bead seat to bead seat. So if we take our tape measure, we go inside to inside, you'll be able to see there's your 16-inch diameter. The width on the wheel's gonna be the same way. You're gonna measure bead seat to bead seat or inside to inside. 6-inches on the width.
And the bolt pattern on this wheel is a six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern. So if you wanna measure that on a wheel, that's an even number of lugs. Like in this case, six. It's pretty easy because if you notice, the lug holes are directly across from each other. So all you have to do is pick one hole, let's say this one, measure from the center of this hole directly across to the center of the hole right across from it.
So on this it'll measure 5-1/2-inches. So that means it's a six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern. Pilot hole diameter right here is gonna be 3.65-inches. Does use a wheel lug size of the 1/2-inch by 20, and the weight capacity on this wheel is 3050 pounds. But that should do it for a look at the Dexstar 16-inch by 6-inch black conventional steel trailer wheel with a six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern.
