Features to know about

Built for the Long Miles: Load Range D with 81-mph Speed Rating

When you’re logging highway miles and need a setup that holds steady at real travel speeds, this Load Range D radial tire is made for it. The Karrier S-Trail carries 1,220 lbs at 65 psi and is rated for 81 mph (speed rating M). Its double steel belts and full nylon piles help it stay cool and stable at speed, so long-distance hauls feel confident and smooth.

Corrosion Resistance that Lasts: Gunmetal Aluminum AM01 Wheel

Salt, rain, and road grime are tough on wheels, but this gunmetal aluminum AM01 wheel shrugs it off. It’s lightweight, rustproof, and protected by a clear-coat finish on both sides to keep scuffs and oxidation away. Even after seasons of use, the machined face keeps its clean look while the structure stays strong.

Secure Fit Every Time: Steel Inserts and 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern

Nothing’s worse than lug nuts that loosen up after a few runs. This wheel is built with steel inserts in the lug nut wells so it stays tight on the hub and doesn’t wear down around the holes. The 12" x 4" wheel uses a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, 1/2"-20 bolts, a 0 offset, and a 3.19" pilot diameter—straightforward specs that make fitment simple.

Smooth Rolling Confidence: Radial Design with Premium Materials

The Karrier S-Trail’s computer-generated tread and premium rubber compound give dependable traction in wet or dry conditions. Radial construction helps it track straight and run cooler than bias designs. The result is a balanced, steady ride whether you’re towing short hops or long hauls.

Ready for Real Use: Pre-Mounted Tire-and-Wheel Assembly

This tire-and-wheel combo comes fully assembled to DOT specifications—no shop time needed before you bolt it on. With an 8-ply rating, 21.4" outer diameter, and 5.8" section width, it’s built for durability from day one. A 2-year limited wheel warranty and 1-year worry-free tire guarantee back up every mile ahead.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Video Transcript for Review of Kenda Trailer Tires and Wheels - Tire with Aluminum Wheel - KE56EV

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Kenda Karrier ST145R12 S-Trail Radial Trailer Tire in a Load Range D, and it's mounted on a 12 inch Gunmetal Aluminum trailer wheel with the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire and wheel assembly is ideal for stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. The wheel, as you can see, is a Gunmetal Aluminum AM01 Series wheel, has the machined face to it. It's very durable, lightweight, and rustproof. They do put a clear coat finish on the front and back to protect from scuffs and scratches.

And one of the nice features I like on this wheel is they use the steel inserts right here in the lug nut wells, and they're designed to help keep the wheel securely in place on your trailer hub. What those steel inserts do is they prevent the holes from wearing down when you tighten down your lug nuts, so eliminates the need for constant re-tightening of the lug nuts. The size on the wheel itself, the diameter is 12 inches. The width on just the wheel is four inches wide. Now, the bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.

And if you wanna measure that on a wheel like this that's an odd number of lugs, what you do is you just pick any hole, let's say this one. And then you're gonna measure across to either one of these holes. But when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to. So on this one, if we put a ruler on it, it would be 4 1/2 inches. So that means it's a 5 lug, 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.

Does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. And the weight capacity on just the wheel is 1,520 pounds. Now, if you noticed, the center cap is not included. We do sell those separately if you want one. You do wanna get one that has the same diameter as this pilot hole here, which is 3.19 inches.

Now, the tire we mentioned, it is a Kenda Karrier S-Trail radial tire. Uses double steel belts and full nylon plies, which combine for superior function and long life. The tread, if you look closely, it is a nice computer generated tread design. And they use premium rubber compound materials to give you superior traction on wet or dry conditions. Now, the tire is an ST tire, which is meaning it's a special trailer tire, which has sturdy sidewall, so they can handle heavy loads. And it is created specifically for trailers, it's not intended for use on other vehicles. Tire size, just to show you, stamped on the side, ST for special trailer, 145R12, the R means it's a radial. Section width, 5.8 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 21.4. And this tire is a Load Range D, which means it's an eight-ply rated tire. So it has a maximum load capacity of 1,220 pounds at 65 psi. And they do come with a speed rating on them now. And they stamped it on the sidewall, but it is in a letter designation. And where you'll find that is usually right by the size. So if you go down here by the rim, it'll have the size again, 145R12. And then right after it, you'll see an 87 for the load index and then a letter M. Speed rating M will let you know this is a speed rated tire at 81 miles per hour. And this tire and wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. But that's gonna do it for a look at the Kenda Karrier ST145/R12 S-Trail Radial Trailer Tire in a Load Range D, mounted on this 12 inch Gunmetal Aluminum trailer wheel.

Look real good on the camper except for one thing. The only downside is the stock stickers that were placed on the tires, they are difficult to get off and leave an unsightly residue behind.

by:

Hard to assign a star rating to wheels and tires you have only owned for 2 days, but yes, they look good and are an upgrade to my original wheels/tires.

by:

Glad to have found etrailer.com. Tire and rim look great - will definitely use again!

Wheels look great, appear to be good quality, and were delivered fast and packaged well! Definitely a nice upgrade to our camper.
The only thing I would recommend is that you determine if the lug nuts and wrench you are currently using will work with this wheel. The lugs that were used on my old set are a typical (shallow) lug nut. The lug hole openings on these wheels are fairly narrow and my lug wrench was too large for the opening.
I ended up using a ‘DORMAN Spline-Drive Wheel Lock Kit’ (711-255) that had a very narrow ‘key’ socket and fairly long chrome lugs. The ‘key’ socket slips over the lug and then you can use your lug wrench. Just be sure to keep everything lined up and you torque the lugs with equal and straight alignment. I’ve heard the ‘key’ could be sheared if not used properly. That said, this worked very well for my setup and the key seemed like it was good quality as well. I’ll just need to make sure the ‘key’ socket stays in the camper with the lug wrench. If not, you’re kind of stuck.
And, the wheels ended up looking great with the chrome lugs! I added a few photos that may help with the lug nut scenario.

Finally put wheels and tires on trailer. They look great. The wheels are a very close match to the ones on my truck. Now the wait and see on the wear and tear on the Kenda radial tires.
