Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Kenda Loadstar ST205/75D15 bias trailer tire in a load range C, and it's mounted on a 15 inch galvanized steel trailer wheel with a five on four and 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire and wheel assembly is designed for use in marine applications. The galvanized finish on the wheels protects the wheel from rust and corrosion when you're unloading your boat in the water. The wheel design you can see, is a multi spoke design. It is a sturdy steel construction, and it is a high quality wheel, does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications.
Now if you notice, this wheel does not include a center cap. We do sell those separately. If you do want one, you do want to get a center cap that'll have the same diameter as this pilot hole, 'cause when you install that center cap, it goes through the hole. Pilot hole diameter on this is 3.19 inches. A few measurements on the wheel, the diameter is 15 inches.
The width on just the wheel six inches wide, bolt pattern on this wheel is a five on four and 1/2 inch bolt pattern. And if you wanna measure a bolt pattern that's an odd number of lugs, like in this case, five. What you'll do is pick one of the holes, like this one, then you're gonna measure across to either one of these holes, but when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to. So on this, it'll measure four and 1/2 inches. So that's telling you it's a five on four and 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
Does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. Weight capacity on the wheel by itself is 2,150 pounds. Now, the tire on this is a Kenda Loadstar bias ply tire. Now, bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are constructed with full nylon ply for a nice, long life.
And the tire is an ST tire, which means it's a special trailer tire, has the sturdy sidewall so they can handle heavy loads, and it is created specifically for trailers, it's not intended for use on other vehicles. The tire's size, which will be stamped on the sidewall. Right here, you can see ST for special trailer, 205/75D15. Now, the D stands for diagonal belt, which tells you this is a bias ply tire. Section width's 7.7 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 27.4 inches. And we mentioned it's a load range C tire, which means it's a six ply rated tire. Does have a maximum load capacity of 1,820 pounds at 50 PSI. And this tire does have a speed rating stamped on it. And the speed rating, they stamp with a letter designation, and where you're gonna find it is right after the tire size, you'll see two numbers for the load index, and then the letter M. Speed rating M will mean it's an 81 mile per hour speed rating. Now this tire wheel assembly does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications.
