When you shift into reverse, you want clear, bright light that makes maneuvering safe and easy. This round backup light uses 6 white LEDs behind a clear lens to throw a clean, even beam without the hot spots or dim patches common with old bulbs. At 12.8 volts, it draws only 0.18 amps, staying efficient while delivering crisp illumination. With no filaments to break, it’s built to last about 50 times longer than incandescent lights.
If your trailer ever backs into water, this light is ready for it. The housing and lens are sonically sealed into a single waterproof unit that keeps moisture out completely. That sealed design prevents corrosion and short circuits, so the LEDs stay bright and reliable even after repeated submersion. It’s a great fit for trailers that see wet ramps or rainy roads.
Getting a professional look doesn’t have to be complicated. This 4-1/4" round light fits neatly into a 4-1/2" diameter hole when paired with the proper grommet (sold separately). It accepts an industry-standard 2-prong plug for a solid connection without rewiring or extra adapters. Once installed, it sits recessed for a clean finish that resists snagging or impact damage.
This LED backup light is DOT compliant and meets FMVSS 108 requirements for use in a two-lamp system when installed as a pair. Its polycarbonate lens and housing provide long-term durability against vibration, weather, and road debris. Backed by a lifetime warranty on the LEDs, it’s built to be the last backup light you’ll need to install.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics LED round backup light. This is designed for trailers and utility trucks. It is certified for the backup light function in a two lamp system. When a pair of lights is installed, your second light is going to be sold separately. The unit features a sonicly sealed waterproof housing and lens unit that can be submersed in water. It's going to contain LEDs. LEDs are going to make great replacements for incandescent lights.
They last much longer. They're much more efficient. They burn brighter. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs, and you don't have to worry about brittle filaments. We're looking at a polycarbonate lens and housing. It's going to contain white LEDs with a clear lens.
It is designed to be a recess mount with a mounting grommet. Your grommet is sold separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. It's going to require a plug here at the back. Your plugs are sold separately as well, and if you're in need, you can find them here at etrailer.com as well. On the back you're going to notice that it has a three pin connection.
Since this is a backup light, it only needs a ground and power connection, so it only requires a two prong plug. Optronics puts the three pin connector on most of their lights even though it may only require a two prong plug, so don't let that throw you off. The two prong plug, as you'll see later when we connect it to our power source, it will cover up all three pins for a nice sealed design. The unit is Department of Transportation compliant and meets FMVSS108 requirements. Taking a look at the dimensions of the light, starting with the diameter. That's going to measure 4 1/4 of an inch.
The depth, including the plug, that's going to measure 1 5/8 of an inch. Just this area here is going to measure 3/4 of an inch. The unit's going to contain 6 LEDs. There's 6 diodes. The power draw is 0.180 amps at 12.8 volts, and Optronics is going to put a lifetime warranty on the LEDs. We're going to go ahead and hook it up to our external power source and turn off our overhead lights, so you can see the unit when it's turned on and in the low light setting. Here's our two prong connector. It goes into these ports right here. Push it in. It creates a nice sealed fit. You can see here the light sends out a really nice consistent signal. The white LEDs with the clear lens allows a lot of light to come through, and the multi-diode design is really going to help optimize our light output. That's going to do it for today's look at the Optronics LED backup light.

Just what was needed to brighten up the rear of my horse trailer when loading and unloading in the dark
With several of the MCL31 clearance I had half or all of the LEDs stop working. I did not at the time realize they had a lifetime guarantee so I just threw them away. When A bunch of the LEDs in both BUL52CBs and about half of the turn/stop LEDs in the STL37RB went out, I contacted etrailer and they happily replaced them, but it took a couple of weeks and I had to pay the shipping. When I replaced all of my trailer lighting, I had thought that I would never have to worry about it again. LEDs should last forwver. That turns out to not be the case and it is a lot harder to change out hard wired LEDs than socketed incandescent bulbs. I wish I could find reliable long lasting LED trailer lighting.
