This actuator holds up in tough, wet environments thanks to its heavy-duty steel body and durable zinc coating. The 500-hour salt spray rating makes it a solid choice when corrosion resistance matters most. The composite master cylinder is made from glass-reinforced nylon, so it won’t rust or pit over time. Together, these materials keep the actuator working smoothly even after long exposure to water or road grime.
The 8" adjustable channel has three mounting positions, giving you the flexibility to line up your coupler exactly where it needs to be. The channel-down design allows for a greater drop, which helps tall trailers sit level behind the tow vehicle. Whether you’re using a ball coupler, lunette ring, or clevis attachment (each sold separately), this setup gives you a clean fit without extra modification.
The actuator uses a composite master cylinder built with glass-reinforced nylon for strength and long-term reliability. A large fluid reservoir provides added capacity, which helps maintain consistent braking performance and reduces the need for frequent refills. The automotive-style diaphragm cap seals the system completely to keep the brake fluid clean and free from contamination.
A built-in breakaway system adds an extra layer of safety by helping stop the trailer if it ever separates from the hitch. Inside, an acetal copolymer lining keeps the moving parts running smoothly as the actuator telescopes in and out. This combination of steady mechanical movement and integrated safety makes for confident towing on every trip.
Installation is simple with the 6-hole bolt pattern designed for standard 3" wide trailer tongues. Three holes on each side—two in front and one in back—provide secure attachment points using 1/2" x 4-1/2" Grade-5 bolts (not included). The bolt-on setup means no welding, making it easier to replace an old actuator or add this one to a new build rated up to 12,500 lbs GTW and 1,250 lbs maximum tongue weight.
Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator, with the eight inch adjustable channel down and a 12,500 pound weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs, and the momentum will push the trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with surge break systems, what happens is the actuator's triggered and as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down, when this happened, this actuator will contract or apply force to the inside of this actuator to the master cylinder. This in turn supplies the hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer breaks. Right up here you can see is an adjustable channel.
It has three different mounting positions for your coupler. Now the coupler is not included, that is sold separately. And if you notice it is a channel down design which allows for a greater drop. This whole unit is zinc plated to offer excellent corrosion resistance. Has a 500 hour salt spray rating, so it's great for marine applications. On the inside it does use a composite master cylinder, which is very durable and efficient.
It's a glass reinforced nylon constructions, resist rust and corrosion. Has a very large reservoir so it provides increased capacity for the brake fluid. And at the top right here, you can see if I unscrew it, it's an automotive style diaphragm cap that'll help create completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of the fluid. And on the inside of this actuator where the . this will slide, they use an inaudible 00:01:26 lining, provides a nice smooth operation as this actuator will telescope in and out. If you notice the cable right here, it is a break away cable, that's all connected and included.
So you just hook this to your tow vehicle. Now this is a heavy duty steel construction. It is a bolt on installation. Let me just hook this back up here. It is a bolt on installation, you can see it has a six hole design case. It has three mounting holes on each side of the actuator.
There's two in front and one in the back. It does require half inch diameter by four and a half inch long grade five bolts for mounting this, they are not included. This part is made in the USA. Again this is for an application with trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. Gross towing weight capacity on this actuator is 12,500 pounds. Maximum ton weight is 1,250 pounds. Now the channel width, inside to inside is right at approximately three inches. Channel height, going to be right at eight inches. And this is designed to mount on a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. This also goes by model number of DA10. And one last note on this actuator, because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, right here on the back, it is recommended that you hook your trailer with three backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer brakes. But that should do it for the review on the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator, with the eight inch adjustable channel down and a 12,500 pound weight capacity.

The product was as expected. Product aside, I was thoroughly impressed with the customer service from Kim. I placed the order online and Kim called me within a half hour to let me know there was a three to four week lead time, but she had an alternate part for me. She changed the order and called the next day to let me know the parts had shipped. Just excellent service!
