Guide-on posts make it easy to load your boat onto your trailer and back your trailer down the ramp. They attach to the rear of your trailer and extend out of the water, providing visual targets to center the boat between during loading.

Features:

  • Guideposts provide a visual target on your trailer to help you load and unload your boat
    • Extend out of the water to help you center your boat while loading
    • Assist you in backing your trailer down the boat ramp
  • 16-Gauge, pre-galvanized steel posts are strong and durable
  • White PVC pipes slide over steel posts so you can see your submerged trailer
  • Simple installation on rear crossmember of trailer frame with included hardware - no drilling required
    • Adjusts out to 19" from trailer
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: trailer frames up to 3" wide x 4-1/4" tall
    • For frames up to 5-1/4" tall, 2 extra-long U-bolt kits (CE11416 - sold separately) are required
  • Overall height: 60"
  • Steel post dimensions: 39-7/8" tall x 1-1/2" wide
  • PVC Pipe diameter: 2-3/8"
  • Quantity: 2 boat guide-ons

Note: Check with your state Department of Transportation for restrictions regarding maximum trailer width.

Guide Your Boat Into and Out of the Water with Ease

When your boat trailer has been backed down the ramp and is partially submerged, these 60" tall guideposts that are mounted on the rear corners of the frame will stick out of the water, giving you 2 highly visible targets to guide your boat between for loading. The PVC pipes also provide a visual aid to help you back your boat trailer down the ramp when you're unloading and loading your boat.

Installation

The posts are simple to install. Slide the PVC pipes over the pre-galvanized steel support posts. Then mount the posts on the top or below the trailer frame, as close to the rear corners as possible. Adjust the posts so that the distance between each post and your boat is less than 1".

Pre-Galvanized Steel

Pre-galvanized steel parts are stamped from a sheet of steel after it has already been galvanized. The edges of pre-galvanized parts often lose their zinc coating during the stamping process. Because of the thinness of the coating (less than 1 mil) and the fact that the edges remain exposed, pre-galvanized parts can begin to oxidize and rust quickly, so it's recommended that they be primed and painted.

  • What Size Trailer Guides are Recommended for a 22 Foot Sea Ray?
For your 22-foot Sea Ray, I suggest using the 60-inch tall CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons, # CE27640. Posts of this height are going to remain visible while your trailer is partially submerged, making it easier to guide your boat. These guide-ons use white PVC pipes which slide over the steel posts for enhanced visibility in the water and are installed with U-bolts so you can avoid drilling. I've attached a link to a video review of this product for you to take a look at.

  • How Far Away Will 40 PVC Guide-On Sit From Trailer
The most room you can get with the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27620 is right at 11" so you'll need the 60" long guide-on kit # CE27640 instead which is about 6" longer and will give you more then enough clearance. If the 60" PVC guide-ons are too tall for your application then you can always cut them so that they are shorter.

  • Are CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons Available as a Pair?
We do have exactly what you need in a kit; you are looking for the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27640, which has two uprights, including the PVC and the mounting hardware. These posts will work on trailer frames that are up to 3" wide x 4-1/4" tall.

  • Can 60" PVC Guide Posts Be Mounted On 40" Steel Mounting Posts
Hey Keven, The PVC tubes attach the same way for both the 40" # CES47FR and 60" # CE27640 guide posts so you could swap them out. The mounting post is a bit larger for the 60" set at 39-7/8" tall whereas the 40" set only has 18" tall posts so the PVC pipes would be less supported if anything ran into them.

  • Which Size Post-Style Guide-Ons Should Be Used On 2009 Century 2001 Boat Trailer
The best size guide on to get would be the one that works based on where you would attach them to your frame and the height of the boat. Ultimately that is up to you to decide. We have the # CE27620 which are 40" tall and also the 60" tall # CE27640. Both of these would attach to your trailer frame using the U-bolts and bracket. If you would rather attach the guide-ons with I-beam clamps then the # CE27648 is another option. It does not look like you would be able to fit these in the...

  • 60 Inch Guide Ons for Boat Trailer With Rectangular Tube Frame
The # CE27648 Guide Ons you'd looked at are designed for I-beam trailer frame members, from the photo you provided, it looks like your frame members are a simple boxed in rectangular tube. If that's the case, and the frame members aren't more than 3 inches wide and 4-1/4 inches tall, I'd recommend the # CE27640. These guide ons are exactly the same, but the mounts are designed for a tubular or C-channel frame like you show in the photo. You can see how the guide-ons are installed in the...

  • Which Boat Guides Should I Get For My 22 Foot Tritoon Boat?
Thanks for the photos, nice boat! I think with a boat of that size, you would be better off getting the large post-style guides as the smaller ones may not be sufficient and would be harder to see. I would go with the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers - 60" Tall # CE27640. These fit trailer frames up to 3" wide x 4-1/4" tall; for frames that are up to 5-1/4" tall you will also need to get Extra-Long U-Bolt Kit # CE11416. I attached a helpful demonstration video for you to...

  • Recommended Guide-Ons That Stick Out 24 Inches From Either Side Of Trailer
I do have a solution for you but all of our CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons like part # CE27620 have a maximum distance of 13" from the inside of the post to the outside of the trailer frame (see photo). In order to obtain 24" the best option we can offer you would be to instead use the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-On part # CE27640. If you were to flip the steel post you could then obtain the 24" from the inside of the post to the outside of the trailer frame but you may need to make a few...

Post style guide ons like the part # CE27640 are designed to be visual aids and are not designed to be used as physical guides. • Will Putting Boat Trailer Guide-Ons Forward on the Trailer Help Reduce the Chances of Hitting Them
What you are saying makes sense to me. Since you don't care as much about where the boat trailer starts, using the guide-ons like the # CE27640 towards the front of the trailer to make identifying center easier makes sense. That should then mean your boat is engaged with the trailer bunks by the time your boat is approaching the guide-ons and reduces the chance of the guide-ons getting hit. If your thought process is wrong, then I am right there with you because it makes sense to me.

  • How to Choose Between 40 Inch and 60 Inch Boat Trailer Guide-Ons
You could always go with the taller 60 inch guide-ons, # CE27640, and trim as needed. But if you go to different places to use the boat, you never know how much of the trailer you will need to submerge and may find that the 40 inch would be too short in some cases. You would want the top of the guide-on taller than the boat as well (when loaded on the trailer). I have linked the installation instructions for you.

  • Choosing Boat Trailer Bunks versus Guide-Ons for Trailering in Rough Waters
Considering the rough water where you boat, I suggest you consider carpeted bunks or roller bunks. Bunks will do a better job than guide-ons at actually controlling the boat's motion while you're getting it up on the trailer. Guide-ons are really intended to provide a visual cue, but not really for actually controlling the boat's movement as it is trailered. As soon as the hull makes contact with the bunks it will begin to stabilize the craft's movement. I have linked our main pages for...

  • Where To Mount Post-Style Guide-On On Boat Trailer With Step Blocking Trailer Frame
Ideally you want the guide ons like the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers - 60" Tall - White - 1 Pair # CE27640 you were looking at as close to the back of the trailer as possible, but with the step there the only way to get the included U-bolts and mounting bracket to fit is to go in front of the wheel where there is room. You could also drill a hole through the guide on and mount it directly on top of the step at the rear with a nut and bolt, as this would allow you to...

  • 2023 Cape Horn 22OS Boat Trailer Guides Recommendation
Thanks for reaching out, Aaron! The 60" Tall CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27640 are always a solid choice because they are "tried and true", but I also recommend checking out the Ark Ezi-Guides Self-Aligning Boat Trailer Loading System # AR84FR which is a little different, but it essentially pulls the boat into alignment instead of you having to keep steering between two poles.

Maybe! I am going to try to go another direction because It sounds like you've looked over our selection of side guides already and haven't been impressed with their durability. As far as heavy duty goes, our strongest galvanized guides are going to be the Ark Ezi-Guides Self-Aligning Boat Trailer Loading System item # AR84FR. • How To Set The Width Of the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons
According to the instructions for the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons part # CE27620, the upright posts will need to be positioned less than 1" from the boat's widest point. Since your boat is wider in the middle than at the end, the posts will stick out further when aligned with the rear of the boat. In regards to visibility, it's really hard to say whether or not the 40" tall posts that you purchased will be visible because it all depends on how far you need to back the trailer up into...

  • How Far Away from the Boat Should Upright Guide-Ons Be
When you set up a set of guide ons like the part # CE27640 you wouldn't want them to contact both sides of the boat at the same time. You would want an inch or two of clearance between the boat and the uprights. With the appropriate amount of clearance your boat that is wider in the middle wouldn't be an issue.

  • Best Position for Boat Trailer Guide-Ons on Boat Trailer
Having guide-on posts at the rear of the trailer is the best place for them. This allows you to know where the trailer starts as you approach it in your boat so that you can be as best positioned as possible. The 60 inch set part # CE27640 would be the way to go. You wouldn't need taller than that.

  • Grounding Trailer Lights Mounted to PVC Guide-On Posts on Boat Trailer
If the trailer lights you mounted to your post-style guide-ons like # CE27640 ground through their mounting hardware then you will indeed need to add a ground wire from each assembly and attach them to a clean bare metal surface. Length isn't normally an issue but since you plan on running the ground wire all the way to the front of the trailer it will be a good idea to use a higher gauge wire for this application. Using 10 gauge wire should do the trick.
