  Hey Keven, The PVC tubes attach the same way for both the 40" # CES47FR and 60" # CE27640 guide posts so you could swap them out. The mounting post is a bit larger for the 60" set at 39-7/8" tall whereas the 40" set only has 18" tall posts so the PVC pipes would be less supported if anything ran into them.

Since you don't care as much about where the boat trailer starts, using the guide-ons like the # CE27640 towards the front of the trailer to make identifying center easier makes sense. That should then mean your boat is engaged with the trailer bunks by the time your boat is approaching the guide-ons and reduces the chance of the guide-ons getting hit. If your thought process is wrong, then I am right there with you because it makes sense to me.

• Grounding Trailer Lights Mounted to PVC Guide-On Posts on Boat Trailer
  If the trailer lights you mounted to your post-style guide-ons like # CE27640 ground through their mounting hardware then you will indeed need to add a ground wire from each assembly and attach them to a clean bare metal surface. Length isn't normally an issue but since you plan on running the ground wire all the way to the front of the trailer it will be a good idea to use a higher gauge wire for this application. Using 10 gauge wire should do the trick.
