Where To Mount Post-Style Guide-On On Boat Trailer With Step Blocking Trailer Frame
Updated 04/23/2021 | Published 04/22/2021 >
Question:
Hi, I’m looking for guide posts for my 19 foot boat trailer. Problem is, there’s a built-in step at the back, leaving only 1.5 inch of exposed frame. The only other location I could mount the guides is in front of the wheel, which is close to the midpoint on the boat. Do you have a recommendation for mounting location? I’d rather it be at the back, but don’t know if that’s possible. Thanks

Ideally you want the guide ons like the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers - 60" Tall - White - 1 Pair # CE27640 you were looking at as close to the back of the trailer as possible, but with the step there the only way to get the included U-bolts and mounting bracket to fit is to go in front of the wheel where there is room.
You could also drill a hole through the guide on and mount it directly on top of the step at the rear with a nut and bolt, as this would allow you to get the guide on where it is the most useful and is personally what I would do if it was my trailer.
I included a video of the # CE27640 for you to take a look at.
