Features to know about

Built for the Rough Stuff: Lunette Ring and Pintle Hitch Versatility

When the road ahead turns to rocks, ruts, or washboard, a rigid tow setup can fight you every inch of the way. The 3" lunette ring on the Roadmaster StowMaster pairs with a pintle hitch to give your towed vehicle the movement it needs over uneven terrain. This setup lets the ring tilt up and down and twist side to side far more than a standard coupler, so the bar flexes with the trail instead of against it. The wide range of motion helps protect your gear from damage and keeps towing steady when things get bumpy.

Smooth Hookups Every Time: Stainless Steel Telescoping Arms with Autowlok

Getting lined up doesn’t have to be perfect. The telescoping arms extend from 33" to 40", sliding on stainless steel inner tubes that move freely and resist corrosion. Once you pull forward, the Autowlok mechanism automatically locks both arms into towing position—no pins, no guessing. When you’ve reached your destination, press the release button to disengage. Even if tension builds on uneven ground, the optional release tool (RM-066, sold separately) gives you extra leverage to get unhooked without a fight.

Secure and Simple: Car-Mounted Storage with Quick-Disconnects

The quick-disconnect crossbar makes mounting fast and clean. The entire bar moves as a single piece, so you can hook it up or take it off in minutes. When you’re not towing, the StowMaster folds and pins neatly on the front of your car—no need to find extra storage space. Welded steel plugs keep the internal parts sealed, and a high-tech powder coat keeps rust away. It’s a tough, tidy setup that’s ready to roll whenever you are.

Engineered Strength You Can Trust: FEA-Tested Steel Construction

Every inch of this tow bar is designed for strength. Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA) testing exposes weak points under thousands of pounds of simulated pressure until the design is solid from end to end. The 6,000-lb capacity and full-length crossbar with angle-iron brace deliver confidence mile after mile. Inside each arm, self-lubricating nylon bushings cut friction and absorb road shock, while internal safety straps keep the arms secure even if a latch fails. This kind of overbuilt engineering means you can tow with real peace of mind.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Hitch Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

This is a very well made hitch. It was very easy to fit, is very robust and very easy to fold away. I bought the optional cover which makes the unit very neat when not in use.

by:

I am using this on the front of a UTV to pull around so it is plenty strong for that and is working good. I ordered the pintle version so that I could fabricate a clevis style hitch and use a hitch pin to pull behind a pickup or tractor. I only gave 4 stars because the latch on the left sider sometimes has a hard time latching. I don't know if there is a way to adjust the lock or not.

The adjustable arms make this tow bar simple to hook up and disconnect. I can pull up behind our RV and hook up in about 3 minuets (including the wiring for our break buddy and putting the transfer in neutral). Disconnecting and stowing the bar is even faster. Although is tow bar is locked to the baseplate and folds flat it is so easy to remove I end up taking it off and putting it in the back when we will not be towing.

This is a great towbar! I deliver motorhomes professionally and I did use a Blue Ox that went into the receiver hitch that I had to move from hitch to hitch rain or shine. Now all I have to do is put my small lightweight pintle hitch hook into the receiver and just quickly drop this lunette ring onto it easily, but when I’m not using this at all it’s so easy to just remove the whole towbar from my vehicle. I also like how easy it is to fold up so that it’s all compact and out of the way when it’s stowed on the front of my vehicle. This makes my hooking up and unhooking so quick and easy. The only thing I don’t like is when I end my trip on a downhill or slightly turned it’s hard to get this towbar off of the pintle hitch by myself, but I have done it every time with a little back and forth moving of my vehicle.

Good product and good price, easy insta lltion.

by:

Love this towbar. By myself, I can hook up to my motorhome and be ready to hit the road in 10 minutes .

by:

Nice, solid product. Easy to install and remove. Sliding action is very smooth, easy to extend and fold. My hitch coupler is slightly different design than shown but seems very heavy duty.

by:

Awesome setup. Directions on point. Real easy to setup, fifth product purchased from etrailer. Will recommend. !!!!

Bought this from Etrailer with all the supporting hardware needed to flat tow my Durango. The quality is excellent (stainless steel, very strong), the install was pretty easy. Only issues I had were because of the are of my vehicle.
Towing with it and hooking up is simple. It takes only a minute to go from stowed to hooked up. Etrailer.com was easy to deal with, helpful, and shipping was very fast. This is my second order with them, both have been flawless. Their pricing also proved to be the lowest.

This product is well made and well engineered. It performs the functions of allowing a reasonable amount of flexibility in coupler/ball alignment, locking into place, smooth vehicle towing and securing into the "stowed" position. Because of my bumper mounted winch, I needed to make some adaptations to the mounting system which the RM-501 accommodated very well. I am very pleased with this purchase.

I will send a couple of installed pictures by seperate email.

If you are thinking of towing a car this is the company to see. Just installed a base plate and tow bar to my Toyota. Took just 2 hours. With the video and instructions, no problems, very easy. Customer support excellent, very helpful. If you don’t think that you can do this install yourself, think again. I would recommend this tow bar, with the telescoping arms connecting to the car is very simple and secure. This is a 5 star product. Thank You

Having used Roadmaster products for years imagine my surprise when after using my new hitch for only a month the right arm came apart while towing my car. I happened to be looking at it and was able to coast to a stop during a slight uphill grade which prevented my car from any further damage. As it turned out the bolts which hold the arms on had fallen out. Why I don’t know. I was able to use a temporary pin in the slot which allowed me to get to a hardware store where I replaced ALL the bolts holding both arms with grade 8 bolts and nylon locking nuts. The arm slid on the road, ground down a small corner and scuffed the paint but did not compromise the integrity of the hitch. The design works flawlessly even if the quality control could use some closer monitoring. All in all it’s still a great product. As you can see from the photos I doubled up the nylon locking nuts and have had no problems since.
