When the roads glaze over with black ice, these pewag Mud Service chains dig in. The 7 mm thick square links cut into slick surfaces and give that solid bite that keeps you from sliding downhill or losing control. The ladder pattern keeps steady forward traction, and the oversized heavy-duty build means they won’t fold under pressure when the ice turns to packed snow or slush.
Out in the mud or snow, getting stuck can ruin your day fast. The ladder-style cross chains on these handle that by gripping forward with every rotation. They clear muck and snow with each pass, helping you stay in motion instead of spinning out. The heavy chain design also helps keep them from digging too deep into soft ground so you can crawl out of ruts more easily.
These aren’t light-duty chains. The premium alloy steel is case hardened, giving each link a tough exterior and a shock-absorbing core. That means less bending, cracking, or rusting even after repeated use in rough winter conditions. The corrosion-resistant finish keeps them dependable season after season, whether you’re driving through slush, brine, or wet road salt.
When you’re climbing or reversing in deep snow or rocky terrain, cams can sometimes loosen. These chains skip the cams altogether, so there’s nothing to snap or come undone mid-drive. Just hook them up and tighten manually. For a snug fit, add rubber adjusters (sold separately) and you’re good to go.

Each set includes two chains sized for tires from 15" to 17-1/2". Whether you’re running the same size across multiple setups or just need a heavy-duty pair for the season, this range gives you solid coverage for most standard tire sizes. With their rugged feel and oversized links, these chains are built for the kind of deep snow, ice, and mud that stop ordinary cables cold.
These chains fit the following tire sizes:

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the P-wag Mud Service Snow Tire Chains. These are sold as a pair. We have them available in a lot of different sizes for different tire sizes. Check out our fitguide and it'll give you the exact part number that you're going to need for your application. These are a great everyday kind of tire chain offering the mud service and snow. It's an all square design. Each of our seven millimeter wide lengths are going to provide nice biting surface to help grip in that mud, or that snow, or that ice providing excellent grip and traction.
These are constructed of a case-hardened nickel-manganese alloy giving us extremely good durability and corrosion resistance. We'll come over to our heavy duty hooks. These hooks should face away from our tires to prevent any side wall damage. That connects it to the outer chain or side chain which will keep all of our cross chains evenly spaced and prevent them from bunching up. These cross chains are designed to provide up to 32% greater traction than comparable models. You can see here on the bottom we've got a nice lever closure with an attached length to help keep that down. We'll just pull that down right over the top and that's going to be nice and secure.
With any tire chain that doesn't have an automatic adjuster, they do recommend the use of the rubber tensioner. You can see the chains are going to hold really nicely to our tire. We've got great coverage all the way around. When you're ready to install your chain, you just want to get it spread out then grab it about 1/3rd of the way in on each side. We can drape that right up over our tire. You'll want your hooks facing outward. That's going to give us maximum protection for our tire.
We'll want our lever bar to be here on the outside. The first link of our chain, we'll want to be just behind our tire, which that's pretty close. We could move it forward just a little bit. We'll go around to the backside where we can make our first connection. We'll grab our hook side and also our links.
That one link back. Hook on our second one there. For the excess, if you're only going to have it one vehicle, you can cut it off. If you're going to switch between different vehicles or different tire sizes then you can just zip tie it right up out of the way. You just want to prevent it from flipping around while you're heading down the road. Here at the front, we're going to grab our bar. An important thing to note is that you'll want to be within one link of what you used in the back. Since we used the second, we'll have to do the third, the second, or the first here. Let's try the first. That's going to provide a good amount of tension there. As you can see, that attached link hooks right into that bar. That way we want have to worry about it coming undone while we're driving. AS with any tire chain that doesn't have an automatic tensioner, the manufacturer is going to recommend the use of a manual tensioner. This is a rubber tensioner, part number PW105. Evenly space those around and you can see they're going to do a good job of constantly pulling in on that chain. Now what we would want to do is just drive forward 30 or 40 yards. Take another look, make sure that we still have good tension and of course check them periodically during use. That'll complete our look at the P-wag all square mud service snow tire chains.

I’ve owned the PEWAG 2439S tire chains for a year now but I haven’t had to deployed them I have only test fit the tire chains in a local church parking lot which got me a lot of weird looks I used the church parking lot because it was clean and dry and perfect for test fitting since the test fitting I’ve since upgraded my tire chain kit during the test fit I found I had to lay on the ground to connect the chains behind the tire this is difficult to reach the chains to make the connections and also not curse anyways So I bought a fifth wheel puller tool from the local auto parts store NAPA AUTO PARTS aka trucker tool this tool made it very easy to reach the chain on the back side of the tire to make the connection then once the connection was made I used 18 inch cable ties to zip tie the slack in the chain works really good I used the bigger longer 18 inch cable ties because I was wearing gloves easier to handle so once the connection is made on the back side of the tire it goes really smooth from there And the connection is made on the outside of the tire and the cable ties are used for the slack chain again and also the PW105 orange tensioners are used to keep the chains tight pretty darn easy if you test fit ahead of time before the chains are deployed for real my off-road tire chain kit has a set of PEWAG 2439S tire chains lots of work gloves fifth wheel puller tool from Napa auto parts 18inch cable ties PW105 tensioners cable tie cutters dikes And overalls to help keep the cab cleaner and Notes to myself in the kit so I remember how to do it all in the future for my particular truck I keep all this in a kit for off road use and it doesn’t leave the vehicle
