Features to know about

Confident Driving on Snowy Roads: Polyolefin Fabric Grips When It Matters Most

When the road turns slick with snow or ice, these ISSE Classic Snow Socks come through by creating solid traction between your tires and the road. The durable polyolefin fabric sticks to snow and ice to remove that thin layer of water that causes slipping, restoring control through dry friction. Each sock covers the entire tire surface for maximum grip, helping you move safely through icy or packed-snow conditions.

Quiet Ride in Winter Conditions: Low-Profile Design Runs Smooth and Silent

You don’t have to put up with the noise and vibration of metal chains. These snow socks have a low-profile, even surface that delivers a smooth, quiet drive. Because they’re fabric, there’s no rattling or thumping on the road—just steady traction that feels natural behind the wheel.

Protects Wheels While Adding Traction: Soft, Non-Abrasive Material

You can rely on traction without worrying about scratching your rims or damaging your car’s finish. The soft polyolefin material won’t mark up custom wheels or paint, making these ideal for vehicles where clearance is tight or aesthetics matter.

Ready When You Need Them: Lightweight, Stretchable, and Easy to Store

These Class S-compatible snow socks are built for quick, straightforward use. The lightweight, stretchable design makes installing or removing them simple, even in cold weather. Elastic bands help them stay centered, and when the drive is done, just toss them in the included tote bag. They’re machine washable and ready for the next snowfall.

Built Tough for Real Winter Use: Durable Construction Meets DOT Standards

Made to handle heavy winter driving, the tightly woven fabric resists tearing on snow or ice. These snow socks meet Department of Transportation requirements in all states and are compatible with ABS and electronic stability (ESP/ESC) systems. Designed for 13"–20" tires with a maximum speed rating of 30 mph, they’re a dependable traction solution for snowy or icy roads.

  • B: at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

by:

I ordered these just to have on hand as we prepare for a winter trip to the southwest. I can't really testify as to how they work because I have yet to use them but etrailer is once again a pleasure to work with.

by:

First, these are for a trip in January, so I have not used them yet, but what I can say at this point is that I'm very happy to have found something that will work on my Forester which has no clearance for chains or most cables. The Forester is great for snow, but nothing is great on black ice, so these will provide some added safety if needed. Etrailer's excellent online guidance led me to these. Thank you.

by:

Snow socks arrived in great condition. Actually hoping I don't have to use them, but nice to know I've got them in the event of a "snow or ice weather event"! Great service, product, and shipping.

by:

While I have not yet utilized the tire socks, the biggest reason to have them is simply to be compliant with the law where chains must be carried. For that purpose the product is perfect! Super light weight and far less of a hassle than dealing with steel cables or chains.

by:

Wow. I was hoping these would work as reviewed and they did! Living on a hill, these socks saved me from sliding all the way home. My tires lost traction on a snowy hill; I pulled over and relatively quickly (and easily!) slipped the snow covers over my tires. Once on, I completed my drive down the snow covered road in control. My husband's going to get a pair (he was impressed how well they worked) and I plan to get these for my adult children. Well worth the cost and peace of mind knowing I have these in my car.

by:

I haven't had a chance to use the product, but I did test the fit and they certainly install easy enough. I occasionally have to drive from the coast over the mountains to into the valley and during the winter we are required by law to carry chains or something similar on 2-wheel drive vehicles...and the storms can come seemingly out of nowhere in the high elevations...so now I am prepared. The construction of these is very good.

Not to mention, the customer service from etrailer was very good. Initially there was a slight problem with the delivery date, but they managed to rectify that without any problems. Thank you.

by:

Does not fit over the tire even though our tire size is listed.

by:

Purchased for the safety of traveling through mountains out west. Have to have it in slippery conditions or state patrol won’t let you proceed. Light to pack, easy stowage, relatively easy to install, but unlike chains is tough fabric. Unsure how effective they work as we did not have need to use. More of insurance to have than not.

by:

Not impressed with this product at all. If you are driving on snow, meaning absolutely no pavement or rough surface, they may be useful... but a short distance after the chain requirement point mine were shredded and all but useless.

by:

Watch the sizing folks. The web site said to get size 74 for our 225/60/18 tires but when they arrived, the size chart on the package said size 70 was needed. I hope this was fixed on the web site. etrailer was very good about understanding the problem and returning the original package, sending me a pre-paid return label for the UPS guy. I ordered the new ones after they received the originals and credited my account. Easily a five star rating if it were not for the step of returning and reordering.

We bought tire socks for our Subaru because the owners manual says NOT to use chains. But, when snowing in the mountains of Oregon, chains are sometimes required. We'll probably be fine without, being all wheel drive, but the police don't think so. There are hefty fines for driving without at least having chains in your possession.

by:

Living in Arizona we don't have a lot of use for these when we do need them it is critical that they can go on easily and work. This is one of the few places I could send my tire size and have the unit match pacifically for my tires which gives me peace of mind knowing that when I do have to use them they will fit.

by:

Really great price and fast delivery.

by:

I live in Dallas, TX so we don’t get snow but ice and sleet and available a couple times a year. I put these on my Subaru Outback and was able to drive around the local neighborhood streets that were iced over. Stopping went well a and starting did not have any wheel spin.

by:

These things are great. So easy to put on & take off, gave me great traction going up & down steep snowy hill with small car & ordinary tires.

by:

Took over a year for a sufficiently snowy day to come, but these tire socks were quite straightforward to install. Didn't notice excessive slipping around while driving.

Review for timely delivery. Not used yet to confirm the usefulness

by:

Needed snow traction in a hurry, and etrailer came through for us.

by:

This review is for the basic ordering of the product. We haven't needed to use the snow socks yet so can't comment on the product. We were able to order and receive the items with ease and in a timely fashion. We received what we ordered. YAY

by:

I would like to say great but I have not needed them. Ran into snow several times last yr but my XC90 just plowed thru without a problem. I have a friend who used them last yr - took about 5 min to put them on and we had good traction in icy hardpack. I still keep them in the car just in case. Would not be without them.

by:

Terrible decision to get these. They were supposed to fit on my tires (based on the specs). When I needed them in a bad snowstorm, I could not go more than 20 MPH. They would slide off one side or the other. I was blocking traffic trying to get them to stay on. Had to nurse the car without these or chains to an auto shop and buy a set of cables that fit. Had to go over the I-80 Donner Summit from Truckee and would not have made it with these "snow socks". I would be happy to sell these once used socks for half of what I paid for them.

  • Will Titan Chain Snow Chains Fit A 2017 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring
Hi Anne-Marie, The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains # TC1553 unfortunately are not a fit for your 225/60R18 tire size. In the online manual for your Forester they state that you can not use snow chains and would instead need to use spring chains, which are essentially just much smaller chains. If you have at least 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well and at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself then you could use the ISSE Classic...

  • Tire Chain Recommendations for a 2017 Subaru Outback with 225/60-18 Tires
Subaru tends to say that you cannot use tire chains in the vehicle owner's manuals and the 2017 Outback is no different. But if you are somewhere where chains are required by law you don't really have a choice. The law is the law. So what I recommend is going with something that requires the least amount of clearance. For your 225/60-18 tires the best option are the K-Summit chains # TH02230K66. They are expensive but they are built to last and no part of them will be between the inner...

  • Tire Chains Recommended for 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon with 2256R17 Tires
I was able to find an online edition of the owner's manual for the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. On page 8-12 it indicates that tire chains are not recommended due to limited clearance within the wheel wells. It further states that if traction devices are used they must be the S-Class type which are low-profile in design and more compatible with passenger vehicles that have limited wheel well clearance. Subaru says chains can be used on the front tires only. In reality, some municipalities...

  • Tire Chains for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma with 265/70-16 Tires
I have a great solution for you. Since your 2008 Toyota Tacoma has larger than stock tires on it you will need a traction device that requires very, very little clearance. One option is a set of Snow Socks # TCH74. These are basically studded fabric covers that go over the tires (rear tires only on your truck). They meet DOT requirements in all 50 states. They will fit your tire size and other, larger sizes so the construction of your tires won't be an issue. The other option is a set...
