I was able to find an online edition of the owner's manual for the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. On page 8-12 it indicates that tire chains are not recommended due to limited clearance within the wheel wells. It further states that if traction devices are used they must be the S-Class type which are low-profile in design and more compatible with passenger vehicles that have limited wheel well clearance. Subaru says chains can be used on the front tires only.

In reality, some municipalities have legal requirements for motorists to have tire chains and such a legal obligation usually trumps an owner's manual and means owners will likely comply with the law and use them regardless of what Subaru says in their manual.

The linked page displays all S-Class type tire chains that fit your 225/65-17 tire size. If you are looking just to meet a legal requirement (and you do not expect to use the chains much, if at all) then you can go for an inexpensive set like the Titan # TC1555. We also offer ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks # TCH74 which cause less vibration against the road surface and which avoid the potential for scratches to your rims which can occur with some chains.

For Thule chains that offer much better performance and include rim protection, automatic tension control and a quick-release mechanism you can consider the Easy Fit chains # TH04115245. These chains are among the easiest to install, and chains that you can actually get on the tires without a hassle are a lot more likely to do you some good on snowy roads.

I linked a helpful article on tire chains that will guide your selection.
