2016 Subaru Outback Tire Cable Recommendation for Traveling in California Mountains

Updated 02/12/2019 | Published 02/11/2019

Question:

In California, we are required to carry snow chains when going to the snow. Would you recommend snow cables or snow socks? My Subaru book states that chains should not be used but I still need to have some with me. Thanks!

Since snow socks don't always qualify as a traction device I'd recommend going with a chain/cable setup with minimal clearance required. For that the snow cables part # PW1046 that you referenced would be what I would recommend. We have snow socks like the ISSE # TCH74 which do fit your 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon but a lot of places do not consider them to be an adequate enough traction device.

We had the chance to install the # PW1046 on a 2016 Outback Wagon just like yours and found they fit and worked well. Check out the install video I linked to this page that shows this.
