Konig Tire Chains - TH2004205117

Highlights

  • Custom Fit for Your Vehicle: Chains made to match your tire size for a snug fit
  • Hands-Free Tightening: Self-tensioning system automatically centers and tightens as you drive.
  • Smooth Grip in Snow: Diamond pattern and square links give steady traction with less bounce.
  • Fits Tight Spaces: SAE Class S design works where wheel-well clearance is limited (needs 3/8" inside).
  • Protects Your Wheels: Plastic-coated hooks, nylon bumpers, and powder-coated sides prevent scratches.
  • Built to Last: Manganese-nickel alloy steel resists corrosion and holds up through repeated winter use.

Features to know about

Keep Moving When Snow Stacks Up: Diamond Pattern Keeps Constant Grip

When the roads turn slick or the snow piles deep, these diamond-pattern chains keep you steady. The cross-hatched design provides constant contact with the road surface, giving smoother traction than traditional ladder chains. The square links bite into snow and light ice without the choppy ride that round links can cause, so you can climb grades or navigate snow-packed streets with steady control.

No Need to Stop and Tighten: Self-Tensioning System Does the Work

Once you make the front and back connections, just drive forward – the chains automatically tighten and center themselves. There’s no need to hop out again to recheck or adjust. This setup makes a big difference when you’re working in falling snow or fading daylight. The system ensures an even fit around the tire, which helps maintain smooth motion and reduces wear.

Step 1 of installing tire chains, showing chains laid out flat on the ground to check for twists and tangles before installation.

Step 2 of tire chain installation showing the blue cable being connected behind the tire.

Step 3 of tire chain installation showing the red hook connected to the red link at the front of the tire.

Step 4 of tire chain installation showing the tensioning chain fed through the clip and secured to the red hook at the bottom of the tire.

Final step of tire chain installation showing the hook stretched across the tire for self-tensioning.

Fits Tight Spaces with Ease: Class S Compatible Design

These chains are made for vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance. Meeting SAE Class S standards, they only need 3/8" of internal clearance, making them a solid choice for low-clearance setups. You still get real traction performance without the worry of rubbing or interference inside the wheel well.

Ready for Real Winter Use: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Holds Strong

The high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel construction resists corrosion and stands up to repeated use. Nylon bumpers and plastic-coated hooks protect your rims and hands from cold metal contact. Each part of the chain is built to handle harsh winter conditions, staying dependable season after season.

Pack Up and Go: Lightweight Build with Smart Storage

The lightweight design makes these chains easy to handle, and they store neatly in the included durable carrying case. A kneeling mat is packed in too, so you’ve got a little comfort when you need to set them up on snowy ground. It’s a simple, practical setup that’s ready whenever winter surprises you.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Through an order mix up I was not able to use the chains I ordered for a trip I was taking. Fortunately, etrailer worked with me to get the chains returned. Thanks for the great customer service.

I wasn't sure what to purchase. The agent on the phone was absolutely wonderful. Helping me find tire size and locating the correct size chains for my tires.

they worked well during the winter storm in cleveland, ohio...it took laying on the ground to get them on the tires but it was worth it to keep from getting stuck...

These chains are far superior to others of the same caliber and are well worth the money spent. I find them easy to put on and remove with a little practice before you really need them.

I had called multiple places and searched Google trying to find chains for my tire size, but no one had results for the make, model, and year of my vehicle. Since I had purchased chains from etrailer years ago for my previous car, I decided to give them a call.

I spoke with Abbey, who was also confused as to why my tire size wasn’t showing any product matches. She placed me on a brief hold to consult with an expert, and it turned out they did have the right product. I purchased the chains and installed them for a fitting—and they worked perfectly!

Thank you, Abbey, for going the extra mile to find a solution and the right product for my needs. Great customer service!

Very happy with how easy it is to install these. I really appreciated the installation videos showing the different tire sizes - we got the right size first try for both of my cars. These are the only chains I will order from now on. Highly recommend.

Tunnel View at Yosemite. Chains worked perfectly, but not quite as easy to install as the video would suggest. I made the mistake of pulling over into 3-4 inches of snow to put them on. The snow packed around the base of the tire made it very difficult. That's not something you encounter when practicing in your nice warm garage. But once on, the chains stayed secure, and the car handled and braked with confidence.

That's a pretty awesome shot you took, John! Before I read your review I looked at your pic and I can see what you mean how it would be difficult to put the chains on with all the snow packed under there. I'm glad that you were able to get them on and enjoy the rest of the drive.

I needed chains for my FWD Volvo up in the Catskills, NY. I have a dirt driveway, the FWD Volvo from 2017 can’t handle an inch of snow/ice surprisingly for a Swedish car. I searched for high quality chains and ended up here. I asked Josh questions before purchasing, he was so helpful. The chains are magic, tricky to install the first time, but now I can install easily. They work so well. They store back in their plastic box easily to place in the trunk. Very pleased.

I was looking to have snow tire chains for my upcoming trip to northern Wisconsin. I found these to be very easy to install as the instructions were very clear. I like that they come with a case to make them easy to store in my Ford Escape.

These tire chains got me out of jam recently when I had gone down a 1 lane thanks to massive snow road and there was no place to turn around. I put on the chains and was able to do a multi-point turn to get back down the road with ease.

I think this is the fourth pair of these chains I have purchased for various vehicles. I have had great success with these over the years. No chains are "easy" to put on but these make it about as easy as it can be. Once you are familiar with the process it takes only a few minutes per tire. The self-tensioning is the best feature. The storage box even has a hook and loop pad on the back so it won't slide around in your carpeted trunk or back seat. I got these for my '25 F150 Lariat. Our vacation home is at the end of a one-mile lane that is steep, snow covered all winter and usually icy in places from the sun. Snow tires and chains are a necessity for us.

I love these chains, and etrailer is the best! As a 69 yr old retired grandma, I work part-time at a ski resort. A few weeks ago, we were expecting 8-10 inches of snow/ice and I was scheduled to work. So, I put these idiot-proof, color-coded, self-adjusting chains on my Highlander front low profile tires and waited for weather. See photo. I worked my full shift, came out to ice/snow in dark, and drove safely home. Oh, and the carrying case comes with a folded plastic sheet, but with my old knees I added a foam pad!

I have a 2019 Honda CRV and have never owned tire chains before so I dont have anything to compare these to but they are easy to put on and take off and they conquer a steep icy unpaved drive way in The Catskills perfectly. There are some plastic parts that probably should be metal. One of them - the tension hook - broke on one of my chains (see photo) and when I reported this to etrailer.com with a photo to prove it, they sent another set. So I am pleased overall with the service from etrailer.com but am only giving 4 stars for the product on account of the breakage. Also they rusted after one season but that hasn't impacted performance.

These are really easy to put on and take off. I have used them three times on my 2019 chevy colorado (4wd) to deal with high elevation mountain snow. After each use, I washed them, hung to dry and then put back in the truck. They are so awesome, I recommend them to others.

2022 Honda Odyssey
I bought these for my 2022 Honda Odyssey for a trip to Colorado. We had to use them during a chain law enforcement through Wolf Creek Pass. They're easy to put on and take off and performance was spot on through snow pack and ice. Recommend getting familiar with them in clear conditions prior to use as its more difficult. I had no problems and would recommend for anyone, especially the novice.
by:
Well, I would say a little harder to put on correctly than advertised, but I called customer support and they helped me. Also watching all of the videos helped because each one was worded a little differently. Definitely would suggest one or two dry runs before you are in the elements. Important to realize to slide the plastic coated cable to the backside of the tire and center the chains after connecting the plastic coated cable and the small red hook. Once I figured this out I was able to almost perfectly center the chains (at least on one tire). On the other tire I couldn't get it perfectly centered (see photos). After about an 1/8 of a mile of very low speed driving it still didn't center but maybe with more driving at higher speeds it would. Also important to remember to have the yellow end of the chain on your right hand side beofore sliding behind the tire and making the first connection. One question I still have is how tight to pull the tension cable after you put it through the stop device. Every video seems a little bit different as to how tight you pull the cable by hand before connecting it to the tensioning device. As far as taking them off I tried four times to line up my car perfectly so I wouldn't have to drive over the chains after disconnecting them but this was not possible for me. So, with the plastic coated cable on top I just disconnected the connections in reverse and then put all the hooks and components off to the side and drove off/over the chains, which seemed to work fine. Will see how they work in the snow and ice but I'm hopeful they will do well.
by:
Very impressed! On a cement floor you can have the chains installed and snugged in under 10 minutes. Also an excellent increase in traction for a RWD van. Definitely recommend the konig XG-12's. Haven't installed while travelling but I don't think it will be very difficult.

Outstanding service! With an upcoming trip and recent snow storm etrailer helped me get my snow chains just in time for our vacation. Without the chains I would have been screwed. Communication with this company is impressive. The original chains I ordered would not have arrived in time and the sales team called me right away to find alternative solutions. Chains for 315/35/20 size tires are not easy to find. Really happy with my purchase. Thank you.
by:
Previously my only experience with chains was using cable chains on front wheel drive cars, where turning the wheels was necessary to ensure they had a good fit.

I bought these chains for my 2023 Kia EV6 with stock 235/55/19 tires. The instruction manual for the car says to put chains on the rear wheels and I was worried that getting chains on the rear wheels would be difficult. Despite never having used this style of chains before I was easily able to test-fit both chains with 15 minutes, and the chains fit very snuggly and didn't move when I move the car a cars length. Getting the inner loop positioned right is something that took a couple tries to get right, and I'm sure there might be a bit more room for improvement :)

I was slightly concerned about the chains damaging the rims or other parts of the car, but with the included spacers (not applied in the picture) I think this won't be a problem.

I'm taking the car up to the snow this weekend and if I use the chains I'll provide an update.

etrailer did a great job clearly communicating to me when my chains would arrive with no fuss.

  • Class S Snow Chains or Traction Device for 2019 Infiniti QX50
I highly recommend checking out the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Profile Snow Tire Chains # TH2004205117 which have a self-tensioning system and are very simple to take on and off. Depending on where you live or travel it may be required by law for you to use chains or other traction devices so you would be best with a Class S chain, which will fit so long as your 2019 Infiniti QX50 has a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well and at least 0.59" (15...

  • Can You Use Low Profile Tire Chains on a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan with 255/40R20 Tires
Per the owner's manual, you can't use any tire chains even if they are low profile/clearance on a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan with 255/40R20 tires. I can't recommend this but if I were you, I would go with a set of class s rated chains like the Konig Tire Chains part # TH2004205117 and check for clearance prior to use. It's not out of the ordinary for vehicle manufactures to restrict use of tire chains but if you are going to an area where you need them you really don't have a choice. This is...
