Tire Chain Solution for 2015 Ford Taurus with Tire Size 245/45-20

Question:

Hello, I am taking a trip from New Jersey to Colorado this year. After looking into local laws Colorado requires winter tires or tire chains on certain highways. I was looking at the Konig self tensioning tire chains for my car, but I have a few questions I hope you guys can help me with. I drive a 2015 Ford Taurus SHO with 245/45R20 tires on it. I know the Konig tire chains are for low profile tires and on your website they say they will fir my vehicle, but when I look in my owners manual it says Do Not use tire chains on my size tires. I was just wondering if you think I will be okay to use them anyways in case of emergency? I have roughly 2 to 2 1/2 inches of clearance on all my tires from the tire to the wheel well. Do you think that will be enough clearance incase i need them in an emergency? Or should I look into a set of snow tires? I want to be able to drive safely in Colorado snowy conditions. Thank you so much!

The Konig Tire Chains part # TH2004205117 are a fit for your 2015 Ford Taurus with the tire size 245/45R20 and most likely would work just fine based on the clearances you measures. These are Class S compatible which means they require minimal clearance. The best way to get the go-ahead from Ford will be to contact a Ford dealer in an area that has tire chain restrictions and ask what they suggest you do. Most of the time they'll give an exemption for chains like this.
