When your solar setup grows past one controller or pushes series voltage limits, this MPPT unit steps in with 150V PV input headroom and 100 amp output. It keeps larger arrays charging in step without forcing a full system redesign.
Array expansion often stalls when voltage limits get too tight, especially with series wiring. This controller accepts up to 150V PV open circuit input, giving you room to run longer series strings without immediately hitting a ceiling. That headroom keeps expansion options open and reduces the chance of redesigning your array just to stay within limits.
Once one controller becomes the bottleneck, expanding the system can turn into a wiring and coordination mess. VE.Can connectivity supports multi controller systems and synchronized charging, and it can daisy chain up to 25 MPPT controllers for coordinated operation. You can grow the system in stages while keeping charge behavior aligned across the whole array.
Shading and changing light can drag production down when a controller reacts too slowly or locks onto the wrong point. This unit uses ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking with an advanced Maximum Power Point Detection algorithm that locks onto the optimal power point when multiple peaks occur due to partial shading. You get steadier charging instead of watching output fall off when roof conditions are less than perfect.
Switching battery types can force a controller swap if charge profiles do not match. This unit supports lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded batteries with automatic voltage selection, dedicated charging profiles, and 8 pre-programmed charge profiles. You can reconfigure charging behavior as your battery setup changes without replacing the controller or compromising battery health.
Limited feedback makes it hard to tell if charging is normal or if settings need attention. Built-in Bluetooth Smart supports wireless setup, monitoring, updates, and charging synchronization, and VRM remote monitoring works when paired with a communication center (sold separately). You can check performance, change settings, and track system behavior without climbing back into the install every time.

Hi, everyone, Steve here with etrailer. Today, we're taking a look at the Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT, a 150/100 VE.Can. This is a high-power solar charge controller that's been designed to squeeze every bit of energy from those solar panels and deliver it to your battery bank efficiently. Now, this uses ultra-fast MPPT or Maximum Power Point Tracking to constantly adjust and optimize your solar input, even in variable light conditions. So if it's partial shade, those kinda things, this can help harvest more energy than basic controllers out there on the market. So I like to tell people there's good, better, best.
In my opinion, this is best quality, and you get what you paid for. It is rated for up to 100 amps of charging current, and supporting solar rays with roughly 5,800 watts max on a 48 volt system. So again, it's built for those medium to large setups. So I think it's perfect for RVs if you're boondocking, maybe boats, those kinda things, off-grid homes, commercial installations, those kinda things as well. And to me, one of the key advantages of this model is its VE.Can communication interface, which lets you integrate it into a larger Victron system, and then you can synchronize multiple controllers for coordinated charging.
And it also uses built-in Bluetooth technology for wireless monitoring and configuration via their VictronConnect app. And that's free, make sure you download that. It's very, very extensive as far as what you can do, all the neat little features, and the things you can monitor, down to the individual parts, et cetera. So again, highly recommend you check out that app, it's amazing. Now, this also uses adaptive multi-stage charging algorithm.
And that's gonna adjust dynamically to your battery's chemistry, whether it's a lead-acid, AGM, gel, lithium, and it's gonna help protect and extend those battery life. So folks, again, if you're building a medium to large solar power system and you want a nice, powerful, intelligent, and network-ready charge controller that's gonna, again, work seamlessly with your other Victron gear, I highly recommend this. It's only 11 5/8 inches long, 8 1/2 inches deep or wide, depending on what you're looking at, by 4 1/16 inches tall or thick. As always, if you have any questions about this that I missed or any other things you wanna know, check out the product page or reach out to us here at etrailer. We're always happy to assist anyone in any way we can.
I'm Steven, thanks for watching. Have a good one.
