When your solar setup grows past a smaller controller, this MPPT unit steps in with 150V PV input headroom and 70 amp output. It tracks sunlight fast and keeps batteries charging safely without forcing you to split the array right away.
Array expansion often stalls when voltage limits get too tight, especially with series wiring. This controller accepts up to 150V PV open circuit input, giving you room to run longer series strings without immediately hitting a ceiling. That headroom keeps expansion options open and reduces the chance of redesigning your array just to stay within limits.
As panel count grows, smaller controllers cap out on output current before you use available solar input. With a 70 amp rated charge current, this unit carries more output on the same battery voltage before becoming the bottleneck. You can add more panel capacity before needing to split the system across multiple controllers.
Older or lower-end controllers leave usable power on the table when light conditions shift. With ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking and up to 98 percent efficiency, this unit continuously adjusts to changing sunlight, including partial shading. You end up seeing more consistent charging output instead of large swings or missed production during the day.
Switching battery types can force a controller swap if charge profiles do not match. This unit supports lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded batteries with automatic voltage selection and dedicated charge profiles. You can reconfigure charging behavior as your battery setup changes without replacing the controller or compromising battery health.
Limited feedback from basic controllers makes it hard to understand what your system is actually doing. Built-in Bluetooth connects to the VictronConnect app for live data, settings access, and usage history. You can check charging performance, adjust configuration, and troubleshoot without needing physical access to the controller.

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Victron SmartSolar MPPT Solar Charge Controller. Now what this device does is it sits between your solar panels and your battery bank, and this makes sure that you're getting the most energy possible out of your panels. Now this uses MPP technology, meaning maximum power point tracking. So what that does is this make, this is more efficient than your older PWM controllers, especially when sunlight conditions aren't perfect.
Now, a few key things that I wanted to point out, this is gonna be able to handle up to 150 volts of solar input, which means that you can wire multiple panels in series without worrying about overvoltage. This is going to give you up to 70 amps of charging current, making it a solid choice for your larger battery banks. This will automatically work with your 1224 or 48 volt battery system. So this is gonna be flexible if your setup changes or grows over time. Plus it does have built in Bluetooth.
So you're gonna be able to monitor performance, check charging status, and adjust settings right from your smartphone using the Victron connect app. So no extra display is going to be needed. This also includes this VE direct port. So if you want to connect it to Victron monitoring systems later, you have that flexibility to do so. So in real world use, this controller is gonna be popular in off-grid homes, RVs, marine systems, and serious solar setups where reliability and efficiency are gonna matter.
This is designed to protect your batteries, adapt to different battery types, and keep charging even when batteries are deeply discharged. Before we go, let me give you some measurements (controller thuds) so you have a good idea of the size. So looking at what I'm calling the overall width, right at about nine and thirteen, sixteenths inches wide. Looking at the height, about about seven and five sixteenths inches tall, and then the depth, (controller thuds) (ruler thuds) right about three and three quarters inches deep it looks like. (ruler thuds) If you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this product or anything that we have here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out because ultimately, we do wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need.
Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
