Features to Know About

Plan a Larger Array Without Guessing: Supports Up to 1,200 Watts

A charge controller has to be sized for both your battery voltage and the amount of solar feeding it. This 40-amp controller supports up to 600 watts on a 12V system or 1,200 watts on a 24V system, giving you clear limits to work with as you plan or expand your array. The controller automatically recognizes 12V and 24V battery banks. Eight presets cover common lithium and lead-acid battery types, including LFP, LTO, LCO, gel, AGM, wet-cell, crystal, and calcium. Custom charging settings give you more control when a compatible battery requires a specific profile.

Get More From Available Sunlight: MPPT Converts Extra Voltage Into Charging Current

This MPPT controller continually finds the array's most productive operating point, then converts excess panel voltage into additional charging current. This helps more of the available solar energy reach your battery as sunlight, temperature, and battery conditions change. In comparison, a PWM controller uses a simpler approach by bringing panel voltage down close to battery voltage. That can make PWM a practical choice for a smaller, closely matched system where straightforward operation and lower initial cost matter. With a larger array or a greater difference between panel and battery voltage, MPPT can harvest power that a PWM setup leaves unused.

Check Charging Without Opening a Cabinet: LCD and Bluetooth Keep You Informed

You should not have to take the system apart to find out how your solar array is performing. The large LCD screen and LED indicators show solar input, battery status, system settings, and operating information directly on the controller. Built-in Bluetooth also lets you check compatible charging information from your phone. That makes it easier to keep an eye on the system when the controller is installed inside a compartment or another protected location.

Protect Your Equipment When Conditions Change: Safeguards Work Automatically

Incorrect connections, rising temperatures, and unexpected voltage spikes can put your batteries and solar equipment at risk. Built-in safeguards respond to reversed panel or battery polarity, reverse current at night, controller overheating, battery overheating, and transient overvoltage. The conformal-coated circuit board adds protection for the internal electronics. Because the controller is designed for indoor use, install it vertically in a ventilated location protected from rain, spray, and direct outdoor exposure.

Video Transcript for Review of Rich Solar Solar Charge Controllers - Bravo 40 Amps MPPT Solar Charge Controller - RS52FR

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Rich Solar BRAVO 40 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller. Now, the job of this controller is to sit between your solar panels and your battery bank and make sure that your batteries are charging efficiently, safely, and as fast as possible. What makes this nice is the MPPT technology, that stands for a Maximum Power Point Tracking, which basically means that this controller's gonna constantly look for that sweet spot where your solar panels are producing the most power and convert that power efficiently for battery charging. Compared to cheaper PWM controllers, you usually get more usable energy, especially in cooler weather or partial sunlight.

Now this controller can handle up to 40 amps of charging current, which makes it a pretty solid choice for medium sized solar systems. This is gonna work with 12 or 24-volt battery systems, and this is going to automatically detect which one you're using. So setup is gonna be pretty simple. The maximum solar panel open circuit voltage is 100 volts, and this is going to be pretty flexible with batteries, whether you're running AGM, flooded, lead acid, gel, or lithium LiFePO4 batteries, this controller is going to support those batteries. That's gonna be especially useful for RVs or off-grid setups where you may upgrade batteries later.

As you probably already saw, you're going to get a built-in LCD screen that's gonna show real-time info like battery charging, status, voltage, and current, and many setups use Bluetooth monitoring and this is gonna be one of them and you're gonna be able to check everything from your smartphone. Now on the safety side, this has all the protections that you want, over-voltage, reverse polarity, overheating, and short-circuit protection. So it's gonna help protect both your batteries and your solar equipment. Lemme go ahead and give you some measurements just so you have a good idea of the size. So I'm gonna be measuring this first from the widest point here.

So looking at that first, we're sitting pretty close to seven and 3/4 inches wide. The overall height looks like we are right at about five and 5/8ths inches tall. And then the overall depth, almost three inches deep. Lemme get this more into the frame here so you can see. Yeah, I'm gonna say almost three inches deep.

You are gonna get hardware here and instructions to guide you through the operation and installation. So if you're building or upgrading an RV, a camper, boat, or off-grid solar system, you want something that's gonna be efficient, battery-friendly, and future-proof. This is a strong mid-range controller that's gonna balance performance and reliability without being overkill. If you happen to have any other questions though about this or anything else that we have here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out. We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

I purchased this Rich solar controller to replace the Go Power PWM solar controller that came installed in our 2025 Flagstaff 22fbs micro lite travel trailer. I wanted the MPPT controller beacause it is more efficient. We also added a second 200 watt solar panel purchased from etrailer for a total of 400 watts of solar. I needed a recessed unit and this fit the bill. I put this controller in the same spot as the factory unit. I just had to make the cutout a few inches larger and hook up the existing wires and screw the unit to the cabinet. Install took about 45 minutes. All seems to be working just fine.

  • Recommend 40 amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller for a 400 Watt Solar Panel Setup
Hey Nathan, welcome back and thanks for the information! I recommend the Rich Solar Bravo 40 MPPT Solar Charge Controller item # RS32FR. This is a 40 amp controller, which will work great with your batteries and 400 watt setup. You're way underrated using that 30 amp one so it makes sense it can't keep up. 400 watts divided by a 12V charging voltage gives you somewhere between 28 to 33 amps of output. Your 30 amp controller is right in the middle of that so jumping up to the 40 amp Solar...
