Highlights

  • Run Higher Voltage Arrays Without Redesign: 150V PV limit supports series wiring without hitting voltage ceilings.
  • Recover Lost Output in Partial Shade: Advanced MPPT locks onto best power point in uneven sunlight.
  • Monitor and Adjust Without Accessing the Unit: Built-in Bluetooth enables setup and tracking through your phone.
  • Protect Batteries During Charging and Faults: SafetyShield+ and staged charging prevent overcharge and damage.
  • Match Multiple Battery Types Without Swapping Controllers: Supports lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded profiles.
  • Expand Systems Without Controller Conflicts: Wireless sync coordinates charge stages across multiple units.

Features to know about

Run Higher Voltage Arrays Without Hitting Limits

victron smartsolar

Array expansion often stalls when voltage limits force a redesign or restrict series wiring. This controller supports up to 150V open circuit voltage, giving more headroom for series panel configurations. You can run longer strings with fewer wiring constraints and keep the system within safe operating limits.

Recover More Energy in Partial Shade and Changing Light

Real-world installs rarely get perfect sun, and basic controllers lose output when conditions shift. The advanced Maximum Power Point Detection algorithm locks onto the best power point even when multiple peaks exist from shading. Output stays more stable throughout the day instead of dropping off with passing clouds or obstructions.

Monitor and Adjust Charging Without Accessing the Controller

Controllers are often mounted in hard-to-reach compartments, making adjustments inconvenient. Built-in Bluetooth Smart connects to the VictronConnect app for setup, monitoring, and firmware updates. You can check charging status, change battery settings, and troubleshoot behavior directly from your phone.

Protect Batteries Across Different Chemistries

Incorrect charge profiles or unstable charging can shorten battery life or cause failures. The intelligent charge algorithm manages bulk, absorption, and float stages while supporting lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded batteries with automatic voltage selection. Charging stays matched to the battery type instead of relying on manual guesswork.

Coordinate Multiple Controllers as Systems Expand

Adding more panels often means adding more controllers, which can conflict if not synchronized. Wireless charging synchronization aligns charge stages across multiple units using Bluetooth or a GX communication center (sold separately). Expanded systems operate as one coordinated setup instead of competing controllers.

Video Transcript for Review of Victron Solar Charge Controllers - MPPT - VN29ZR

Hi, everyone, Steve here with etrailer. Today we're looking together at the Victron SmartSolar MPPT. It's a 150/35 solar charge controller. Folks, this will help you get the most energy out of your solar array. It uses advanced ultra fast maximum power point tracking to extract every itty bitty bit of solar power, even in charging in light conditions. So whether it's a cloudy morning with partial shade, those kind of things, you're gonna be able to harvest more energy and charge your batteries faster.

As you can see, it's been designed with flexibility. It's gonna automatically detect your system, the voltage, and it works with all 12, 24, or 48-volt battery banks without a manual switch. And it also works with a 36-volt selectable via software. Now with a 35-amp charging capability and support for up to 500 watts of solar on a 12-volt system, it's a great choice, whether it's an RV, boat, cabin, or off grid home. You can see you've got lights here indicators, whether it's bulk, absorption, float, and then you've got all your connections and everything here as well with a nice heat sink on the bottom to help dissipate heat.

This also includes built-in Bluetooth so you can monitor and configure your solar performance right from your smartphone using their free Victron Connect app, so you don't have to worry about dongles or cables or anything like that. This also has a robust protection such as over-temperature, polarity, and short circuit safety, and it gives you 98% conversion efficiency, so it's gonna reliably manage your solar charging day in and day out. As always, if you have questions about this or any of the products, reach out to us here at etrailer, we're more than happy to assist you, and if you're not sure on how to install this or you just don't wanna tackle it, reach out to etrailer.com, find our dealer locator tool and we can help assist you with finding someone local to your area that can do the installation as well. I'm Steve and thanks for watching.

See what our Experts say about this Victron Solar Charge Controllers

  • Victron Solar Controller Recommendation for 2025 Casita with 400 Watt Panel
Hey Chris, I looked into the output of your Echo Flow 400 watt panel and it puts out 33.3 amps at 12 volt so for a charge controller you'd want the Victron part # VN29ZR which is rated for up to 35 amps. This is also an MPPT controller which means it will put a better charge on the batteries as well. What type of batteries do you have?

  • Do Different RV Battery Types Need to be On Different Charging Banks
Hey David, if you are going to charge your batteries as banks it's going to be best to have all of the same spec batteries in a bank connected to a single charger and then different spec batteries should be on their own separate bank with a charger. So the 600 ah battery would need it's own charger and then however many 100 ah batteries you have would need to be on a different charger if you wanted to charge them as a bank. Does that help?
