Don't strain yourself lifting skis and snowboards onto the roof of your vehicle - just add the Thule Tram to your existing dual-arm, hitch-mounted bike rack. This adapter lets you carry up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards upright on your bike rack, maximizing your carrying capacity.

Thule Tram installed with rubber cradle straps

This adapter installs easily on your bike rack using the existing cradles and rubber straps. The upper arms of the Tram rest in the bike cradles and are held in place with the rubber straps.

Thule Tram mounting bracket from view

The Tram is also anchored to the upright mast of the bike rack with the included U-bolt, bracket, and hand knobs. If you are mounting the Tram to the Thule Spare Me spare-tire-mounted rack, use the included socket head cap screws to anchor the Tram frame to the bike carrier.

Thule Tram padded arms

The Tram has ultra-soft rubber pads on the hinged arms. These pads help to hold your skis and snowboards in place and protect your gear from scratches and abrasions during transport.

Thule Tram easy-to-open arms

The hinged arms of the carrier open easily with large push buttons. These buttons make the arms easy to operate even when you're wearing gloves. The arms can also be adjusted to carry skis and snowboards with larger bindings. Simply slide the back clip of the hinged arm to the outside setting.

Thule Tram lock cores

The Tram includes a Thule One-Key lock core on each hinged arm. These locks ensure the security of your skis and snowboards, and they can be swapped out to make all your Thule products keyed alike. You can also use a Thule cable lock (TH538XT- sold separately) to secure the Tram to your hitch-mounted bike rack if your bike rack doesn's have a cable lock built in.

This rack works well.
I did however
need to manufacture a rubber wedge to go between the lower cross bar (TH9033) and the bike rack so the attach point would lay flat against the bike rack.

Many thanks to Cathy at etrailer.com for the excellent customer service she provided.

I sold this product. It was very unstable when the wind would catch the skis and snowboard.

by:

One of the holes didn’t quite line up so it took some strength and manipulation to get the bolt through, but works as it should. Only real option for hauling skis on a Jeep Wrangler soft top.

by:

Happy to find it in stock. It took a couple of hours to assemble both the rack and the tram. Looking forward to many years of use!

Still working well!

by:

I use this to transport four snowboards (two on each side sandwiched bottom-to-bottom) a pair of skis and a pair of ski poles. It is reasonably easy to attach to my bike rack and it holds the gear very securely. I love that I can still access the rear hatch of my SUV and it is a LOT easier to load my gear on this hitch mounted rack than it was on my old roof rack. The one thing that drives me nuts though is that if it was just a couple inches wider you would be able to fit two snowboards side-by-side and double its snowboard capacity.

We recently purchased the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier Adapter from etailer.com, and they made this such a delightful experience. We received personalized and real time emails from their Customer Service and Operations departments, and they really cared about us having an enjoyable experience.

As for the product itself, we recently got back from our first ski trip with the carrier, and it worked perfectly. We could easily put 3 sets of skis and poles on the carrier (with space for more), and the rack was very stable, even after a 4 hour interstate drive.

If you decide to install/build this carrier yourself, I would recommend finding a youtube video for your specific setup as we found the Thule instructions to be inadequate and challenging (at best) to follow.

Great product though, really really happy we purchased it, and purchased it from etrailer.com

by:

Great product-although it comes with some assembly required! I have a Yakima 2 bike rack, and Yakima only makes a ski rack for their 4 bike models. Have not transported with skis yet, but it is well made, and feels sturdy. Skis do project a bit above the roof line (Jeep Grand Cherokee), something to be aware of. As always, great experience with etrailer!

by:

We ordered product 6 days before our MLK weekend ski trip. etrailer.com expedited the order (without my prompting) which was a nice touch. The product arrived in time and it took about 1 hour to put together (probably will be quicker for the more technically gifted ...). We fit 5 skis on the rack with no problems. It takes a bit of time to get used to putting the skis on the rack because they fit upright (gravity ...) however that shouldn't be an impediment to buying this product. The only potential downside is that the bottom of your skis will pick up a some road dust/dirt so you should wipe down the skis at the end of your journey. Again, you should also do this with skis fitted to conventional roof racks.

by:

After a year of use I still enjoy the functionality of this bike/ski rack. The swing arm allows for getting into the rear of vehicle (to biking shoes or ski boots) while the rack is attached! Very easy to use.

by:

Thule ski and snowboard rack is easy to use and very well made!

by:

Not a snatch to assemble, but once in place, appears to work well. Capacity less than advertised, especially if full-size skis and platform mounted bindings: these will only fit single not paired (too thick). Stable at highway speeds. Weakest link appears to be the hinge/swivel ... will see how long that lasts with open/closing over skis. All-in-all, a good way to "dual use" the Thule bike during the winter!

by:

Easy to put together.

by:

It’s a great addition to the bike rack! I used it and it makes things easy. Easy to install, easy to mount the skis and secure. Can’t wait to use it again this winter season.

by:

I got exactly what I ordered when I needed it most. etrailer's Customer Service representative went beyond my expectations to be helpful. Pictures to follow!

by:

Excellent product. We use it for skis and snowboards with no issues. It's a little heavy, but the durable construction makes it worth it.

by:

Super fast shipping. One rip in the box but does not appear to have damaged the product.

by:

Packaging arrived damaged, but the rack was perfectly fine. Great customer service and delivery was fast! Our family can’t wait to hit the slopes this winter in Lake Tahoe!

by:

We were disappointed when we put it on the car and it wouldn't hold 2 wide boards next to each other. We thought it would hold 4 boards and only held 2. ( 3/4 boards for our trip were wide) . We wouldn't have bought it if we knew that.

by:

It has gone through two boarding seasons without any issues. It is fairly easy to use and has the added benefit that you can store the board holder and use it as a bike rack.

by:

I just used the ski carrier. I had to get used to the small amount of movement as I drove. I checked it out several times and every thing was fine. I just put 1100 miles on it , along with the bike rack and the new hitch.

by:

This works as expected, easy to install and does what its supposed to do.

by:

After opening the box, all material inside is in good condition. Now I have to wait for snow to use the ski rack. Thanks and
nice doing business with the company
John

by:

Shipment arrived quickly and I received several emails confirming each step of the process from purchase to shipment to delivery. Excellent experience overall.

by:

Worked great now I don't have skis in my car anymore cutting up my car seats.

  • Will the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier work with Yakima Bike Rack
The only ski and snowboard carrier confirmed to fit your Yakima Ridgeback 4 Bike Rack # Y02458 is the Yakima HitchSki # Y02418. I went out to our shop to test the Thule Tram with the Yakima Ridgeback for you and found that the two are not compatible. The main problem is that the Thule bolts/bracket that attach to the upright mast of the bike rack are not big enough for the Ridgeback's mast (see photo). If you were dead set on using the Thule Tram, then you could probably get around...

Unfortunately, we do not have any roof rack options for your 2006 Toyota Avalon which includes the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack part # 298-SX6000B. • Recommended Option to Carry Bikes and Skis on 2008 Land Rover LR2 HSE
To haul bikes as well as your skis and snowboard on your 2008 Land Rover LR2 HSE, there is one great option, starting with a hitch. For a trailer hitch use the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13052 because it has the most bumper clearance for use with a bike rack. This is a Class III, 2 inch hitch which is a bolt-on installation so no drilling will be required to install it on your Land Rover; the hitch is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty. Since your 2012 Infiniti G37X sits relatively low to the ground it would be beneficial to have a bike rack that has a rise in the shank. First, if you do not already have a trailer hitch, I recommend Curt hitch # C11499 for a sedan or the # C11493 for a coupe. These are both Class I hitches which means you will need a bike rack that is compatible with a Class I hitch. You are also limited to 2 bikes maximum. And with either of the Curt hitches Curt also says you have to use stabilization...

  • Using a Hitch Extender with a Thule Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Ski Carrier Adapter
The adapter you are inquiring about attaches to the bike rack not the ski adapter. The ski adapter, part # TH9033, attaches to Thule bike racks. If you have a Thule bike rack, it will work with adapter # HE18. However, you do need to keep in mind your limitations when using the adapter. Using a hitch adapter will reduce your trailer hitch tongue capacity by 50. So if your trailer hitch is rated for 350 pounds of vertical load, you will only be able to load 175 pounds on the hitch.
