Don't strain yourself lifting skis and snowboards onto the roof of your vehicle - just add the Thule Tram to your existing dual-arm, hitch-mounted bike rack. This adapter lets you carry up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards upright on your bike rack, maximizing your carrying capacity.
This adapter installs easily on your bike rack using the existing cradles and rubber straps. The upper arms of the Tram rest in the bike cradles and are held in place with the rubber straps.
The Tram is also anchored to the upright mast of the bike rack with the included U-bolt, bracket, and hand knobs. If you are mounting the Tram to the Thule Spare Me spare-tire-mounted rack, use the included socket head cap screws to anchor the Tram frame to the bike carrier.
The Tram has ultra-soft rubber pads on the hinged arms. These pads help to hold your skis and snowboards in place and protect your gear from scratches and abrasions during transport.
The hinged arms of the carrier open easily with large push buttons. These buttons make the arms easy to operate even when you're wearing gloves. The arms can also be adjusted to carry skis and snowboards with larger bindings. Simply slide the back clip of the hinged arm to the outside setting.
The Tram includes a Thule One-Key lock core on each hinged arm. These locks ensure the security of your skis and snowboards, and they can be swapped out to make all your Thule products keyed alike. You can also use a Thule cable lock (TH538XT- sold separately) to secure the Tram to your hitch-mounted bike rack if your bike rack doesn's have a cable lock built in.

This rack works well. I did however need to manufacture a rubber wedge to go between the lower cross bar (TH9033) and the bike rack so the attach point would lay flat against the bike rack.
Many thanks to Cathy at etrailer.com for the excellent customer service she provided.168095
One of the holes didn’t quite line up so it took some strength and manipulation to get the bolt through, but works as it should. Only real option for hauling skis on a Jeep Wrangler soft top. 725376
This works as expected, easy to install and does what its supposed to do.1483399

I use this to transport four snowboards (two on each side sandwiched bottom-to-bottom) a pair of skis and a pair of ski poles. It is reasonably easy to attach to my bike rack and it holds the gear very securely. I love that I can still access the rear hatch of my SUV and it is a LOT easier to load my gear on this hitch mounted rack than it was on my old roof rack. The one thing that drives me nuts though is that if it was just a couple inches wider you would be able to fit two snowboards side-by-side and double its snowboard capacity.921152

We recently purchased the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier Adapter from etailer.com, and they made this such a delightful experience. We received personalized and real time emails from their Customer Service and Operations departments, and they really cared about us having an enjoyable experience.
As for the product itself, we recently got back from our first ski trip with the carrier, and it worked perfectly. We could easily put 3 sets of skis and poles on the carrier (with space for more), and the rack was very stable, even after a 4 hour interstate drive.
If you decide to install/build this carrier yourself, I would recommend finding a youtube video for your specific setup as we found the Thule instructions to be inadequate and challenging (at best) to follow.
Great product though, really really happy we purchased it, and purchased it from etrailer.com 111405

Great product-although it comes with some assembly required! I have a Yakima 2 bike rack, and Yakima only makes a ski rack for their 4 bike models. Have not transported with skis yet, but it is well made, and feels sturdy. Skis do project a bit above the roof line (Jeep Grand Cherokee), something to be aware of. As always, great experience with etrailer!458677

We ordered product 6 days before our MLK weekend ski trip. etrailer.com expedited the order (without my prompting) which was a nice touch. The product arrived in time and it took about 1 hour to put together (probably will be quicker for the more technically gifted ...). We fit 5 skis on the rack with no problems. It takes a bit of time to get used to putting the skis on the rack because they fit upright (gravity ...) however that shouldn't be an impediment to buying this product. The only potential downside is that the bottom of your skis will pick up a some road dust/dirt so you should wipe down the skis at the end of your journey. Again, you should also do this with skis fitted to conventional roof racks.114494

Not a snatch to assemble, but once in place, appears to work well. Capacity less than advertised, especially if full-size skis and platform mounted bindings: these will only fit single not paired (too thick). Stable at highway speeds. Weakest link appears to be the hinge/swivel ... will see how long that lasts with open/closing over skis. All-in-all, a good way to "dual use" the Thule bike during the winter!936224

After a year of use I still enjoy the functionality of this bike/ski rack. The swing arm allows for getting into the rear of vehicle (to biking shoes or ski boots) while the rack is attached! Very easy to use.250829

We were disappointed when we put it on the car and it wouldn't hold 2 wide boards next to each other. We thought it would hold 4 boards and only held 2. ( 3/4 boards for our trip were wide) . We wouldn't have bought it if we knew that.317556

It has gone through two boarding seasons without any issues. It is fairly easy to use and has the added benefit that you can store the board holder and use it as a bike rack. 498965

Worked great now I don't have skis in my car anymore cutting up my car seats.166654
Most bike racks with arms that the Tram Carrier, part # TH9033 fits will require an adapter bar for women's and kids bikes.
The # TH9033 has cross-tubing that attaches to the cradles of the hitch-mounted bike racks. An adapter bar is not required for this carrier to be used in a bike rack.
I have attached links to a product review video and an installation video for this adapter you can check out. view full answer...
You should have no problem using this on with a 2006 Toyota 4Runner. Whether or not you will be able to use the tail gate will depend on the clearance provided by the bike rack that this ski carrier, part # TH9033, is mounted on. Many of the Thule bike racks fold down to allow access to a trunk or tail gate.
The Thule Ski and Snowboard Rack, part # TH9033, attaches to a bike rack. Basically it is a conversion attachment. It is not a particularly difficult part to attach. Attachment method... view full answer...
The Thule Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Ski Carrier Adapter, # TH9033, the carrier could hold your cross country ski poles. The top clamping arm when fully closed leaves a gap of 1-1/2 inches between it and the rubber support of the rack (where the skis go). The bottom has 2 rubber pads that have a space of 1/4 inch between them.
Since the gap at the top is wider, you will need to use the included straps to hold the poles tight to the rubber part of the upper half. After loading up your skis... view full answer...
Yes. The Thule Tram, # TH9033, has a 6 ski pair capacity when used on a compatible bike rack that fits in a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. I spoke to my contact at Thule and he informed me that the width of the interior of the clamp of the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier Adapter part # TH9033 is 20 inches. I asked about the thickness it can clamp over and he said they do not have a figure for that since its rubber that will compress around virtually any binding. He said that a lot of people in his office gets new skis and boards every year and they have yet to have a problem with the clamps not being able to clamp over... view full answer...

Yes, the Thule Tram ski adapter # TH9033 will fit your Thule Hitching Post Pro bike carrier. You wouldn't want to carry skis in a ski bag with the Thule Tram # TH9033. Doing so would most likely damage the bags and possibly the finish of the skis from the wind whipping the bags around if they were loose fitting bags. The thicker style of ski bags that are almost rectangular in shape would be way to thick to fit in the rack.
For the most part the vehicle would block all of the debris as you are travelling when using this product. The skis would be exposed to the elements, but nearly... view full answer...

The Thule Tram Carrier # TH9033 can carry 2 pair of skis and 1 snowboard. I confirmed this with my technical contact at Thule. I have attached a brief installation video of this carrier.
The main caution here is that you do not go over the tongue weight limit on your hitch receiver. Please be aware that the weight of the bike rack, the Tram carrier, your skis and snowboard all combined cannot exceed the tongue weight rating of the hitch.
There should be a safety sticker on the hitch... view full answer...

I spoke with my contact at Thule about your TH987 ski carrier.
Unfortunately, the ski carrier you have has been replaced and the parts for the carrier are no longer available. They told me the locking knob is actually part of the whole carrier assembly.
If you choose to replace the carrier I recommend the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Carrier, part # TH9033. This is the newest model of the tram carrier that replaced the TH987XT. I have attached a product review video for this carrier... view full answer...
