Features to know about

Stay Level and Confident Under Load: 1,500-lb Rear Suspension Support

Heavy trailers or bed loads can make the rear sag and throw off steering and braking. These SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs add up to 1,500 lbs of support at 50-percent compression to keep your ride level and stable when towing or hauling. They help your factory suspension handle extra weight so your tires maintain good contact with the road and your headlights stay aimed where they should.

Smooth Out Bumps and Shocks: Progressive Load Control

Rough roads and uneven loads don’t have to mean a rough ride. The progressive microcellular urethane material compresses easily for lighter loads, giving you soft engagement and comfort when empty. As weight increases, the springs stiffen up to as much as 80 percent compression to support heavy cargo without bottoming out. The result is a smooth transition from soft to firm support that keeps your ride comfortable no matter the load.

Comparison of SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs installed on a rear axle, showing one spring uncompressed and the other compressed under load to illustrate progressive suspension support.

Stay Steady in Crosswinds and Turns: Independent Spring Action

When a curve or an off-center load tries to push you off balance, these springs work independently to keep each side planted. They help reduce body roll and sway, giving you better control through corners, crosswinds, or uneven ground. Each side supports the weight it needs to, so the vehicle feels steady even when the load isn’t perfectly centered.

Count on Durability That Lasts: Microcellular Urethane Construction

Built from durable microcellular urethane, these springs resist damage from oils, road salts, and UV rays. They perform reliably in temperatures from -25 F to 200 F and compress vertically with minimal side expansion, so nearby parts stay safe even in tight spots. With no air lines or pressure to monitor, they’re completely maintenance-free—just solid, reliable suspension support every time you haul.

Quick Setup Without the Hassle: Simple No-Drill Installation

Installing real load support doesn’t have to be complicated. These custom-fit helper springs mount directly onto your rear suspension using existing points—no drilling required. In just a short time with basic tools, you’ll have a setup that strengthens your factory suspension and helps prevent sagging or bottoming out under heavy loads.

Video Transcript for All About the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs-SS28UV

Hi, everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the SumoSprings solo line of custom helper springs. This is gonna come in a variety of different fits, and have different styles of spring. So let's check them out and talk about the differences. Now right away, this is going to be for the rear axle. You can see we've got one installed on our 4Runner today.

That's just one of many fits available, and it's a direct bolt on installation. Now with the rear axle, it's gonna help with a number of things. In any sort of towing applications where we've got a lot of tongue weight on the hitch, bringing the back end down, and the front end of the vehicle up, it's going to help return us to a more normal ride height. Now, unlike an airbag that's adjustable where you can tailor it to each load independently, this is going to be pretty much fixed, but it will provide a lot more support, especially compared to the factory bump stops. Now, this is just an example, because every vehicle fit's gonna be a little bit different, but just the overall height difference between the factory and the SumoSprings option is going to be pretty drastic.

So with these being so much larger, they're going to make contact with the axle a lot quicker, so we get quicker engagement and support. So we don't have all of this open air between the bump stop and the axle, where if we hit a bump with a heavy load, we feel all of this bouncing, or side to side, we don't feel as much sway, because this may contact a lot quicker, and provides that support when we need it. And with the SumoSprings, there are gonna be multiple different kinds. If you're looking at different options, you'll see a blue, a yellow, and a black one, and they are different. They really differ in the density.

Overall function and fit, it's gonna be pretty much the same. For example, on the 4Runner here, one of these black ones is available, but also a blue one. It's gonna be the same fit, but they offer different support. The blue one is going to be the lightest density, the black one is the medium density, and the yellow is the most extreme heavy density. That just means as you get more dense, it provides more support, and all of the weight capacities, depending on the kits, will vary a little bit, but as a general rule of thumb, you can go by that color scheme to find out whether you need the light, medium, or heavy duty option.

Now these feature a progressive spring rate, and what that means is the more they compress, the more they're going to push back and support, and try to bring the vehicle back to its normal driving position. So the initial first bit of compression is going to be a bit softer and easier to move. So for normal day-to-day driving when you have these installed, it isn't going to be as stiff. Then as we get into heavy loads and we start getting pretty extreme compression, it's going to work harder to push back to that normal state, and bring us back to a comfortable driving position. Now as far as the construction goes, it's going to be a microcellular urethane material, as opposed to something like a rubber material. Now the urethane's gonna be very heavy duty. It's gonna work in temperatures from negative 25 degrees Fahrenheit, all the way up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. So you can expect it to work in all sorts of weather conditions. And this material is going to resist all kinds of oil, road salt, and UV rays. So if it does make contact with the sun, it's not going to weather away, and any sort of road conditions, like road salt in the winter, isn't going to cause this to degrade over time. So whether you're looking for support side to side and limiting body roll in your vehicle, or you're looking for backend support for towing, or maybe just something heavy in the hitch like a cargo carrier, this is going to be a great way to do that. It's a maintenance-free solution, so you don't have to worry about maintaining air pressure in it like an airbag, although you don't get as much adjustability with it. I do think that trade-off is very much worth it, because once it's installed, you don't have to worry about it. The installation process is obviously going to vary depending on what kit you get, so do be sure to use our vehicle fit guide on our website to find the right kit for you and your vehicle. But that'll do it for our Look at This medium density SumoSprings solo line of air helper springs here at etrailer. Thanks for watching.

I put these on a 2013 Jeep JK (not lifted) that tows a 3000 lb trailer in rough terrain; Total game changer.

These replaced the anemic factory stops (which had completely disintegrated) and make it impossible to 'bottom out' on the dips and holes that use to beat up the suspension. I got nearly all of my vertical travel back and the vehicle now sits almost level under high tongue load.

They go on pretty easy. I suggest sliding in one side, and then using a wooden dowel and hammer to pop the other side in the stock receiver cup.

Highly recommended. These are a MUST if you are towing a trailer (with a medium sized SUV) of any significant weight or if you just want to be able to bounce hard without bottoming out your suspension. I am likely going to get the front suspension version now as well.
Wish I knew these existed sooner.

2025 Promaster 2500 159” wheelbase. Backed the van on couple 2” X 6 “ easier sliding under. Sprayed PB Blaster on top of bumper spring, using a 16” Channel Lock, easy off with the old. At that time I jacked the rear end to allow clearance. One side at a time. Took longer for set up then the job. I used the long bolt with two spacers. Have not drove yet, though looking for great results.

Glad to hear the install wasn't too bad, Michael! Definitely let us know how the ride is once you take it out for a drive! What are you using your Van for? The tires look pretty beefy.

This only pertains to the order, shipping speed, and install as I have not put a heavy load on these sumo Springs yet but I feel like that's a foregone conclusion based off the reviews already. The ordering process, the shipping, and the installation was unbelievably easy. I kept rereading the instructions thinking this can't be right because it was so simple. I looked at the YouTube video and realized it is that simple! So happy with the ordering process, the quality of the initial product I opened, and how simple it was to put on the jeep.

That is the beauty of SumoSprings! Super easy to install and once they're on you can forget they're there! Are you planning on towing something with your Jeep that you want extra support for?

@ClaireH yes Ms Claire. I plan to put a truck camper on the Jeep (that weighs in the 500-1000 lbs range). My payload is 1700 lbs so I know a camper of the weight will be significant my truck. Already ordered a stiffer rear anti-sway bar as well.

@Justin That sounds like a good plan! These SumoSprings plus the sway bar should be more than enough to handle the weight of your truck bed camper.

Love them! The truck barely even squatted, had two dirt bikes, and a generator in the bed as well! It handles the bumps and sway great

2016 Toyota Tundra
It arrived pretty promptly about 30 minutes later I had him installed. It took me longer to find the proper Tools. Never had to remove the tires or wheels the only time I had to jack it up was to put the helper springs and screw them down very easily install

2000 Nissan Leaf
Great product! Bought these for my 2000 7.3 f250. Didn't want something that is constantly active like ras or hellwig since my leaf springs are new and rated for 4k pounds. Installed these in 1 hr super simple only hard part was the factory bump stop on driver side was a pain. Didn't install the puck they give due to height of truck and I knew more or less at what point I wanted them engaging. I haul cattle to shows/ auctions or between pastures with my 24ft big bend and these things actually provided a smoother ride in my truck loaded then unloaded.they do a great job with the added support and are better than an overload spring with handling sway and providing a smooth ride loaded. Just wish I could use the 3k pound rated ones on this truck and my dually but doesn't fit if you have a gooseneck sadly so will probably have to go with timbs on the drw. Over all great product can't speak to longevity but solid for the time being. And customer service with this company is excellent if you have a question or problem they're on top of it...hope they pay them as well as the reputation they're building for them.

I put a set of 47s on my Silverado 1500 and towed my dump trailer that weighed 6000 pounds the way I had it loaded for 50 miles on all kinds of roads and it worked well. I didn’t use the spacers and the truck still rides like it did before the install.

Glad the Sumos are helping make your loads easier to tow!

by:
Jeep Gladiator Mojave - swapped out the rear stock bump stops with these. High quality parts. Just jack up the truck enough to give you room to work with and put in your jack stands, no need to remove the wheels. I look forward to seeing how they do with towing! Hopefully I can update my review here afterwards. Check out the gap difference in the pictures. Should touch sooner during normal drive conditions and hopefully help reduce some trailer squat and help towing to be smoother.
by:
Opted for the Blue 1000lb Sumo's w/spacer over the 1500lb Black ones. 1500 Silverado Max Tow & reduces squatting by 2" on a 1000lb+ tongue weight. Ride is still good, but you can feel the Sumo's engage over large dips or bumps which is not an issue for me.

I got the springs installed last week and wanted to have a drive time before I wrote the review.

The height of the springs are perfect for my 2016 Tacoma, They keep the truck stable and nearly eliminate the body roll I had before installing them. I am heading to the mountains in a couple weeks, so I will update the review when I get back. That way I will know for sure the body roll is gone and the truck is stable on the winding mountain roads.

The springs installed in no time at all and since I had the rear end apart, I decided to add the leveling blocks at the same time, to keep the truck from squatting with the gear I haul around with me.

The guys at etrailer are great. And while I did not call them to discuss this item, they have been very helpful in the past with all my questions.

Below are pictures of before, a couple comparisons and after. Sorry if they come out sideways.

These Sumo Springs were a great addition to my Tacoma and well worth the money, IMHO.

The springs are working exactly as expect. I have need up to the mountains numerous times and to Monerary to the Sea Otter bike fest. They have reduced the body roll and helped keep the truck stable on the mountain roads or when loaded down for camping. Im very pleased I added these Sumo Springs to my Tacoma.

@Mike We LOVE to hear reports like this! I've never been to the Sea Otter bike fest, but I looked it up online and it looks pretty cool! How many times have you gone to it?
by:
2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Have Nissan NV 1500 (transit van).Loads and trailers were the problem-along with the constant "slouch" look-with no really heavy load on it. Hated that!
These used with "add-on leaf springs" made a world of difference.
Bumps being felt, are there, but nothing like before. These two things along with new shocks (all for back),has helped out so much!
So, the bumps have almost faded to "nothingness". Now granted, I have not hit a massive pothole, yet. I try to dodge those anyhow!
Components work great together!
by:
Got them installed no issues the reason for 4 stars is one side touches top of axle the other side does not no one could tell me if this was right or wrong also haven't pulled 5th wheel yet to feel the ride or handling so we will see thanks

Definitely helps with squat on '24 F250 from boat trailer tongue weight. These do come with a plate to avoid uneven contact or wear.
I mounted using all spacers , stock is same unless speed bumps or large dips, u feel the stiffness/contact of sumo as expected. May take one spacer out .
Super easy to install , better than leaking bags.
Time will tell how they last

2021 Nissan Titan
I had installed this model SumoSpring on my 2019 4Runner and had great results when towing the camper I had at the time. They greatly reduce the bounce when going over dips in the road at highway speeds. Now I have a 2021 Titan and a bigger heavier camper. I expect the same great results on the Titan. Installation was pretty straight forward and took about a half hour. The size difference between the OEM bump stops and the SumoSprings alone should give a better ride when towing my camper.

I bought a 2027 RAM 1500 to tow my 20' 5000lb Forest River. Easy to install. I did it in my driveway in 1.5hrs. Some of the bolts were dificult to access due to mufflers etc but a short wrench worked well. When I first hooked up my trailer I had 4" of rear bed setelment. With springs installed I had less than 2". Front lift is about 1/2". Did not compromise driving comfort and appeared to dampen trailer "flex" on RxR tracks etc. My right handled very well on a trip from S Florida to N Georgia on Interstates and secondary roads.

  • In Which Order Should SumoSprings Be Installed On A 2006 Fleetwood Jamboree Motorhome
It doesn't matter which order you install the SumoSprings on your 2006 Fleetwood Jamboree GT 31W motorhome. Typically the rear needs the most help when it comes to enhancement so that's where most people start, but if you're doing both it doesn't really matter. For your Ford E-450 Chassis you would want the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs # SSR-106-54-1 for the rear and the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSF-106-47 for the front. For your 2007 30 ft Winnebago RV on a E450 chassis the SumoSprings are going to be your best option for the smoothest ride.
