The majority of problems that you will have when towing a trailer with your 2009 Ford E-350 will be related to vehicle sag; reduced braking power, decreased stability, improper headlight aim etc. These issues can then be amplified based on how heavy the trailer is or how worn the vehicle's suspension is. In order to combat these, a set of suspension enhancements will be needed. I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-107-47 for infrequent or part # SSR-107-54 for frequent towing.
The other item I would suggest adding is a transmission cooler which will help with longevity. For this, I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504 with the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings for Ford and Lincoln part # D13024.
