Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. We've got an '09 Ram 1500 and put in a few different roof rack systems on it. This one happens to be from Rola. This is going to offer 60 inch elliptical style crossbars. You can see the crossbars nice and aerodynamic shape really helps to reduce any wind noise. There's diffuser strips that are going to come with it to fill in this little area here and also a built-in strip right here, again, helping to reduce the wind noise. Now, the kit's going to contain your crossbar, as we said, 60 inches there.
And I really liked that finish. You see it kind of sets it off. It makes it look a little different with that more of a gray finish. Typically what you're going to see is going to be a silver or even a black. It's going to include for the foot packs.
That's what we're going to use to attach our crossbar to our clips, which are here and our foot pads here. Now, these are a nice rubber material. They're going to help protect the paint really well. You're not going to have to worry about any type of scratching or anything like that. And the clip reaches down, grabs a hole and as we tighten it secures everything together.
It's going to give us 110 pound capacity with the roof rack system. Now, with that in mind, you don't want to exceed the roof capacity of your vehicle either. So just double-check that and make sure you're not going to be going over that. I think these are going to be really useful for a lot of situations. Like we've got a camper shell on here, longer stuff, kayaks and things like that. So a little bit of a problem, getting them in.
You have to leave that hatch open and kind of leaves everything else in there kind of open to the weather. Now, whether you need to throw a kayak up on your rooftop, that maybe you want to use a rooftop cargo basket. Maybe you just have a short load of lumber you want to put up there. They're going to be really handy. It's going to help to free up some space inside of your vehicle so you can get more items along with you. Also using like a rooftop basket or a kayak carrier, we're not putting the muddy and dirty items inside. We can kind of keep them outside and we'll be a lot less worried about the interior of our vehicle. Now, in my opinion, this is going to be a solid roof rack system. I guess a couple of knocks that I'd have on it. It's a little bit more difficult to install than some that I've installed on the Ram in the past. But from the information we get and talking to a lot of our customers, generally, once you install the roof rack system on your vehicle, you're probably going to leave it, especially with an elliptical system like this. You're not going to have a whole lot of noise associated with it. If you do want to put it on, take it off, put it on, take it off I'd probably look at the newer Tuli 00:02:29 system. I think that would be a little bit better system, a little bit easier to install.Another complaint I would have on the system would be the capacity. It's 110 pounds. In most roof rack systems we're going to be up closer to 165. That new Tuli I mentioned it's up to about 225. Again, you don't want to exceed the capacity of your roof but having that little bit of extra weight capacity could help you get more gear down the road with you. Now, just to give you an idea of the spacing you're going to have and what we're going to add to the roof with the system installed. To the top, it's going to be about three and three quarter. So if your garage door, as you pull in and out sits just over top of your truck, you're mildly going to run into an issue where you might run into it. If that's not an issue, if you've got that three and a quarters worth of room, shouldn't be able to pull right in and out with no problem. All right, now we can get into the installation process and show you how that goes. We're going to start with the rubber foot pad. Now, the thing I like about this kit, these are all the same for all four positions, so you don't have to try to figure that out. You can see the metal bracket that we have here. See the two little holes there. Those are going to go in those holes. It's designed to clip around it. There's a little bit of a lip here. So you will have to try to spread that out, but it's going to fit really nicely behind that edge. I like to kind of get that back clip in and you see I'm just going to rotate it, push down firmly all the way around, make sure it gets a good hold on there. All right. And it should feel pretty solid. You can see as you press down all the way on the edges, there's not a lot of give to it and it's going to indicate you've got it clipped on properly.Next thing is pop our door open here. We're going to take our clip. Now the clips are all identical too, another benefit to this kit that I really like. Now, these go in you can see that it looks like a window with a rounded tab that needs to fit over that portion. It's going to slide in behind that tab, inaudible 00:04:37 bring it over like that. Let me see that catches it. That tab is going to hold it in place. Now, when we install our foot pack onto our crossbar, you see that little lever. We want to pull that up. It gives us some slack right up here. We're going to get that lined up, just allow that to slide right down and in. Now we can use our scale. And with the fit kit, it's going to tell you it's it tells you to go to 70.1. So basically we want this edge to be just above and see, this is the mark for 69. So 69 and a half 70, 70 and a half, we're going to go right down to about 70.1. So it should look just about like that. Let me see our 70 mark, just a little bit of a gap and we'll push that up. That helps to seal that bottom side and reduce that window is like we talked about. Now, we've got our end cap there. This is just going to slide on. And then we'll rotate this to lock it into position. So that slot should sit left and right. Now we've got our front bar installed, we're going to take you through the rest of the process here on the rear bar.The process for the front is going to be the same. You'll use a slightly different measurement, which we'll give you here in a minute. We're going to open up our door and our rear bar is going to be kind of in this area. So I'm going to pull down this weather stripping. We want our clip to come in and go underneath. So let's just pull that down and get it out of the way for now, once our clips in place, it'll go back up and in. We're going to do that on both sides. Now we'll take our bar and we'll place it up and over. Bring it down here in the approximate position and inside here, you may need to grab your tool and just loosen that bolt up till it stops to give us plenty of wiggle room. Now to set this distance, we need to be at 29 and a half inches from the center of each of the lock cores in our end cap. Now I'm going to start at one inch. So mine is going to be 30 and a half. Remember 29 and a half is what we're looking for. I'm going to square that up on both sides. Now for positioning your front foot pack, again, the process is going to be exactly the same, but we're going to measure from the back corner of our windshield. On the glass to the front edge of our foot pack here and we want that to be 11 and three quarters of an inch. Now once we have that set on each side, we're going to get our foot pack there, the rubber pad to where it sits just inside the lip where the actual body meets that plastic strip. We'll use our tool here. I might have to keep our clip tilted in a little bit while we start it just to get the slack out. We want to make sure that our clip goes right down and around that pinch weld. I just needed to go back and forth and tighten each side down to our torque tool gets to the appropriate measurement. That's going to be the four NM or four Newton meters. So you see, as we turn this, it's going to cause that to pivot. So we just want that white line to line up with that four Newton meter. And once we've got that done, we're going to put our weather stripping back up into place here, stretch it a little bit around our clip. That'll be good there. We'll be ready to shut the door, close our flat down, and we can turn that..

Pretty secure mounting. I chose to let a truck accessories service store do the install. I think that they did a good job for the price. But some of the 4 rubber feet don't sit fully on the roof. They said it was to accept the actual load. In addition, there is way more road noise than we had on our previously Ram 2500 with a similar rack. The tech also commented that we should keep an eye out for leaking around the foot mounts at the doors. Judging from the wind noise, I'm betting that they leak water as well as air.
My cargo rails came as ordered. With help from Diana, I did get them installed. Over the last couple of years, I have dealt with Stacey, Hally and Diana. They all have been very helpful. Will continue to use etrailer.
My boyfriend and I enjoy traveling and wanted the extra storage space. I had these roof rails in the past on my jeep and they held up very well. We got them for our ford pick up, we need the bed space, and they haven't disappointed me yet. They look good and fit great. They were easy to install on both vehicle. I highly recommend them to anyone.
Aloha from Hawaii...This surf racks looks even better on my truck. I love the quality and price and free shipping....Thanks You Guys
Great roof rack!!!
Perfect fit on my 2016 F350 with supplied detailed instructions made installation a breeze!! holds my two 11 foot kayaks perfectly
Racks fit my truck perfectly. I am very pleased with the quality and fit of the product. Easy to install. Looking forward to using them to carry our kayaks.
Fantastic product. The fact that it's priced considerably lower than all the very-overpriced Thule and Yakima offerings just adds icing. Installation was easy and the rack looks great. The pictures don't show the rack very well as I have since added a Curt cargo basket which I already had in another application and some very vintage Yakima sled-type bike rack pieces at the sides of the cargo basket so we can carry our two bikes. When going camping I load an 8ft. 1959 Alaskan slide-in truck camper onto my 01-F350 and wanted to take advantage of the previously unused space on the roof of my Supercab.
Roof Rack was delivered fast and customer service was awesome answering my questions. Even though I won't be using this Rola Rail Extreme DFE Series Roof Rack until spring, I wanted to assemble and install only to see how the fit would be on my 2018 GNC Sierra 1500. I must say this is much more solid than I thought it would be and the fit was perfect. It will come in very handy transporting our Kayak's on our camping trips once spring comes around. I Would definitely recommend this to others looking for such a component.
The instructions are lacking, but once I figured it out they installed very easy, and the fit and finish is excellent as expected.
Excellent roof rack, directions could be a bit more detailed. 30 minute assembly and install.
Very solid and light weight racks. I have an old set of Thule racks and these definitely are equal or better in build. The instructions are a little vague, but when you get in to the process, you see it is less complicated than the instructions make out.
Looking forward to taking the kayaks when we camp with our 5th wheel camper!
Just received the product and haven't had a chance to install it yet but it looks as advertised and arrived when indicated. Customer service assisted with the correct roof rack and tried to find something that was in my budget. They succeeded.
I recently ordered the wrong roof rack when I was online shopping. I quickly realized the mistake I made and immediately called the customer service number. I spoke with a representative Adam E. He eradicated my problems quickly and efficiently! I was introduced this set up and I felt comfortable to give it the go ahead. Man was that the right decision! Not only did Adam E. Expedit my order the product itself was way better than I could have ever imagined. Its extremely sturdy and I feel very confident using it to carry my mountain bike and kayak!! I will continue to do business and 10 out of 10 will recommend!
Installation was unintuitive and a little annoying but not terrible.
Once installed, it works as intended. Mine holds a roof rack with a spare tire - no issues in my year of ownership.
These are good looking and sturdy when installed. Installation instructions do not flow very well and I found myself having to re-do a couple of things to get the fit correct. That cost them a star.
Very easy to install! I think the gasket instructions were reversed, but wasn't a big deal at all. Excited that I will likely be able to move it to my next car with just new the new fitting pack.
the clamps that hook under the rubber door seal dont fit great. dont seem like they are the correct ones.
Roof rack works fantastic on f250 crew cab. Very solid and easy install
It just arrived, and the box looks like it's intact so the contents should be alright too. It is evening here and mid winter so I'm not going to put it on real soon. I trust it will be easily installed and they'll be no problems.
The product arrived in a reasonable amount of time. It fit the vehicle very well
Very satisfied
Great product, easy to install. Great customer service.
product was easy to assemble and install. I would definitely buy again.
So far I have not used the item but the quality is very good.
