Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna be taking a look at the INNO roof rack kit with square bars here on our 2021 Toyota 4Runner. Now these square bars are gonna be really nice because they have a slightly higher weight capacity than some of your typical aero bars that you might find. These ones have a 220 pound capacity. So, for any sort of heavier loads, maybe you've got a rooftop tent on here, maybe you're just trying to load it up with a little bit of extra cargo with a basket and a bike.
You can do that with this. You're gonna have that sort of extra capacity, just make sure that your roof is up to it as well. Now, on the flip side of that, we will be making some sacrifices with the square bar. Such as the lack of a channel here for our T slot accessories. INNO has other kits with aero bars that have that.
So if you have accessories, you wanna mount 'em that way, you can. But I feel like most people typically go for the clamp-around style anyway, and these will be great for that. So for our kit, we have the 58 inch bars. For your 4Runner you can also go with a 50 inch bar kit if you don't need quite as much overhang. But, that overhang can be nice, we can offset it to one side, get a load assist kayak carrier on here because, this is a very tall car, and you might want some of that assistance getting a heavy kayak up onto your roof.
It's hard to lift it up over head and get it in the carrier. So something with extra overhang like this could be really useful for that. So as far as some other measurements, go with your crossbar spread. Because you're attaching this onto raised rails you don't have any sort of fixed mounting points. You can just adjust it to whatever you need.
So if you've got a specific accessory that requires a certain crossbar spread, you can set these there. Do want to keep in mind though, is how much height you're adding. So from the top of the roof to the top of the bar we're gonna be sitting at 3 3/4 of an inch, not too high up. Again, you're just really gonna wanna watch for what accessory you put on. If you've got a J style kayak carrier or a box, watch out for those garage doors, it's happened before. And as far as how close it's coming to your roof, you're gonna have 2 3/4 of an inch of space between here. So I think that should be plenty of room for most clamps and hand knobs to get your hand down there and tighten it up. So I don't think there's any worries there. Now the feet here are really simple to use. They do have covers with locks on them so we can make sure everything is secure. And then with that off, all you gotta do to take 'em on or off is loosen or tighten this knob. And we can undo that strap to secure it. Keeps everything on there really tight. You can see there's no movement in the roof rack there. And with the key, it's all secure. Speaking of that easy install, let's check that out now. We have the top of the bar right here, you can tell with the ridges. So we're just gonna flip it upside down, take our foot here, and you can see we've got the slotted opening and we can just slide that onto the end with the hand knob here facing the outside. Right there. Then we can take our end cap with the tapered end kind of going down like that. That'll be our top side. Just pop that on the end there and then bring this whole thing up to the roof. So I like to get that passenger door open. Luckily this isn't heavy, so I can kind of hold it with one hand while I get myself up on the roof to a better position. And we can attempt to set this down in place. Sometimes that rubber band might be a bit hard to get wrapped around on the other side. So we'll just leave that kind of loosely set in place, wrapped this bar around on this side and we'll go over and do the same on the driver's side. With everything loosely up top, we can go ahead and measure our crossbars center to center on each side and make sure that they are running parallel. We want that measurement to be the same on both sides. So I'm just gonna scoot this over a little bit. That looks good there, that matches the measurement I took on the driver's side. So we can just insert this rubber band into the hook holds right there and tighten up that knob to pull that strap tight and secure the roof bar onto our raised rail. Once that's done on both sides, we can give it a good shake, make sure everything's secure and. lock it up with the end caps right here. Keeping this all in place on our roof. And that'll be it for our look at the INNO roof rack kit with square bars here on our 2021 Toyota 4runner..
