Installation process and instructions were really easy but I have two major problems with the design. First, the bike rack mounts so far aft on the roof rack that it prevents me from opening my trunk more than halfway. I have a Chevy Bolt hatchback that uses a fixed point roof rack system so I can’t simply slide the bike mount or the roof rack forward at all. The rack is just about long enough for my mountain bike and fits all my other required measurements but I didn’t realize it won’t mount forward enough to clear my trunk. Second, the howling noise the bike rack makes is unacceptable. The normal buffeting wind noises are fine but driving above 40mph sounds like a kid is following me around blowing a whistle as hard as he can, constantly. I appreciate that this unit has very wide bike compatibility and that it holds the bike well, but if you’re looking for a fork mount unit I would look elsewhere.

I’ve since found out that the howling noise from the roof rack system was from the rhino rack bars and how I had the bike rack installed on them. After patching the holes in the T track with speed tape the howling noise is gone and the wind noise is acceptable! Unfortunately there’s no fix for the rack mounting so far back but you learn to work around it. The rack has held my bike steady for many miles without a single issue otherwise. I’d like to change my review to a 4 stars!

I purchased these because of their longer length and they worked perfectly with my Rhino cross bars using the T-slots.

Absolutely love how sturdy this mount is. I trust my bike on it at 70+ MPH. Awesome low-profile design. Easy to quickly mount and dismount with a thru-axle fork.

Great quality, my bike is very stable with this rack no concerns about it coming loose while driving. Wish I would've purchased the lock accessory as it would come in handy. Very well made.

  • How To Determine If the RockyMounts SwitchHitter LS Roof Bike Rack Will Clear the Rear Hatch
In regards to the RockyMounts SwitchHitter LS Roof Bike Rack part # RKY1270, the distance from the center of the mounting clamp to the end of the tray is 53". Therefore, you will need to measure from the center of the front cross bar on your roof rack while in the forward most position to the rear edge of the roof. According to my research, the distance from the center of the front cross bar on the roof rack to the rear edge of the roof on a 2020 GMC Terrain is 53" so the RockyMounts...

  • Do Yakima HighSpeed and RockyMounts SwitchHitter Bike Racks Fit Square Bars
Both of the roof-mounted bike racks you mentioned do fit square crossbars - the Yakima HighSpeed Roof Bike Rack # Y02115 and RockyMounts SwitchHitter LS Roof Bike Rack # RKY1270. Of the three racks, the best of these and the one I recommend is the Yakima HighSpeed # Y02115. This rack is the most well-built, as evidenced by the fact it has the highest weight capacity among the three of 40 lbs per bike, while also being capable of holding bikes with tires up to 5" wide. It is also the easiest...

You may be able to squeeze in three bike racks and a cargo box on the Yakima JetStream crossbars that are on your 2013 Ford F-150, it just depends on how long the crossbars are. Let's start with the bike rack first, and for your bikes I like the RockyMounts SwitchHitter LS Roof Bike Rack # RKY1270. This is a fork-mounted rack that is among the most affordable options and will work with bikes that have a wheelbase of 34" - 48", and with wheels that are 20" - 29" in diameter and up to 3"...

  • Use of the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail # RBC035 with a 45.5" Bike Wheelbase
While we do have long enough roof bike racks for your Cannondale Quick CX-XL, you are correct in saying that the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail # RBC035 is too short to accommodate your 45.5" wheelbase measured axle-to-axle. This is because the rack only measures 45" long. For a great alternative, I recommend going with the RockyMounts SwitchHitter LS # RKY1270. The SwitchHitter LS is longer and can accommodate your 45.5" wheelbase perfectly. As far as axle compatibility, this rack works with...

  • Would Swagman XTC2 Work Well on 2013 Ford Focus
A Class I hitch is rated to carry a maximum of 2 bikes. The weight of the additional bikes can be a problem, but the greater issue is when additional bikes are placed in the rack the load is moved away from the receiver tube. As the distance becomes greater, so does the amount of leverage applied to the receiver and the attachment points between the vehicle and the hitch. Excessive leverage can damage the hitch or result in the failure of the attachment points between the hitch and vehicle,...
