Today we're going to be taking a look at part number Y05006. These are the Yakima cinch straps with the padded cam buckles. You're going to get one pair, or two straps. The cinching tie downs are going to let you secure a variety of items to your cargo carrier or roof rack. This unit's going to be ideal for kayaks, canoes, surfboards, paddleboards, as well as a lot of other gear. One of the biggest advantages of this unit, or this part number, is right here, actually over the cam buckle. We're going to have a really nice rubber cover.
Now, this is going to help prevent scratches to your vehicle or scratches to your cargo. Nice, solid design allows a lot of padding around the buckle, and it really does cover the entire buckle or any portion of the buckle that would make contact with your vehicle or your gear. Underneath the rubber protector is going to be a nice cam lock buckle. That's going to hold the strap tight over your gear. This is a really simple operation. All you've got to do is take the plain end of the strap through the buckle, and simply what I'm doing there is I'm pushing down on the release lever.
That's opening up the buckle and allowing me to bring my strap through. Now, you would obviously already have this around your gear. Place the plain end through, and then you can simply just cinch it down by pulling the exposed end of the strap. Once you get that tied over your gear, you can see that I can't pull it back through the opposite way unless I push down on the release lever. Really nice design, very simple operation. Yakima uses a strong box stitch, polypropylene webbing, so their straps are very strong and durable.
You're going to get two straps, each strap's going to measure 16 feet in total length. It's going to measure one inch wide. They can be cut if needed, but that's totally up to you. Again, you're going to get one pair, or two cinch straps, and Yakima's going to cover this product with a lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's review of part number Y05006. .

Cinching tie-downs secure your gear to a cargo carrier or roof rack. Each durable, box-stitched polypropylene strap has a cam buckle that holds the strap tight. Soft rubber guards cover the buckles to prevent scratches on your cargo. These are the best rubber protected strap buckles out there. When securing kayaks, I loop around the rack then throw the strap, buckle first, over the truck. Have yet, in many years, to brake a truck cap window.
The Yakima products are doing great. Just got home yesterday from a 18 day trip using them in Michigan's upper peninsula. Love them. Great products. Thanks again.
my package arrived quickly and in good order. have ordered other items from etrailer and have always been pleased with promptness of delivery and customer service:)
Bought the Yakima EasyRider Double Decker Trailer, associated Spare Tire kit, and the Yakima Cinch Straps last year and we are extremely pleased. EasyRider assembled easily in an afternoon. EasyRider also doubles as an outdoor storage rack for our kayaks that we can move easily by hand across grass. We carry our 4 Pungo kayaks, two 12' on the bottom level and two 10.5' on the top... lots of positive comments on this easy setup when we pull into a launch site (we always recommend checking it out on etrailer.com). We use two sets of Yakima Cinch Straps (4 straps in total) to hold everything down and they are just long enough for the slightly wider 10.5' kayaks. Took our whole setup from the top western corner of Pennsylvania, down through the winding mountainous roads of West Virginia / Virginia, and out onto the Outer Banks.... EasyRider Trailer and Yakima Cinch Straps performed absolutely perfectly on all road conditions. EasyRider was even easy enough to unhitch and maneuver by hand in sand at access points on Sound side of OBX. Yes it is a more expensive trailer, but we feel it makes up for that in easy of use and less frustration. Plus the EasyRider offers options... when the kids move out and take their kayaks, mom and dad can buy the compatible Yakima bike racks to mount on the top level and we can easily transport two kayaks and two bikes.
Security: We use a 1/2" coated steel cable that is 15' long, which we lace through the kayak carry handles and wrap around the trailer cross piece, and use a padlock through the cable loops. We also use a padlock on the EasyRider's ball hitch lever to lock onto our vehicle... this thing is just that easy to move!
It takes quite a bit of tightening to be stable and not move around. Basically, you need to tighten until the bottom plastic strap conforms to your crossbar and you can torque no more. Once I got that set up and the position of the cradles matched to my kayak I was able to transport the kayak 800+ miles over the highway with no issues. The provided cam straps were all that was needed to complete the job.
The best kayak straps I've ever owned. Needed additional straps for two more kayaks.
Shipping was very prompt!
Emily W. is an awesome sales person. She does research for you to insure you get the right solution. This strap is the perfect solution for my skiff. None of the local retailers carry this product.
Heavy-duty straps for my kayaks. Long enough to secure two boats. No worries going down the road now.
Fantastic product and great service from eTrailer. Ordered 4 sets of these straps to tie down our new kayaks and was very pleased how easily and securely they tied 'em down. Super tight and no worries of the buckle scratching anything. My Dad saw them and was blown away how easy and secure they worked...... so guess what.... I ordered 4 more sets to be given as Christmas presents to my Dad and BIL.

Still love our Yakima cinch straps. Used them to ratchetcinch down our 12’ Christmas tree on our truck roof rack… so much easier than traditional ratchet straps.
Great straps … only brand I’ll buy !

Great - I now have four straps. Two I use all the time and two for backups.
I have ordered several products from Etrailer over the past few months-a Yakima roof rack; ski rack; kayak rack and accessories. Every product has been shipped and delivered promptly along with constant communication about timelines. I also find Etrailer has excellent videos and instructions/questions and answers about product specifications and installation. Very pleased.
Great straps - I bought these as backups for another Yakima roof rack I have. That roof rack has these same straps. Excellent product with rubberized covers to prevent scratching the paint on one's vehicle.
The retaining clips for excess strap lengths take a bit of getting used to, but at least they have those as well.
These are solid! Been using for over a year, keeps my kayak secure when transporting, zero issues.

Great straps! They are holding up great, keep my kayaks secure, simply put I trust them
Like the rubber padded metal cam buckle. It should keep the metal from gouging my kayak. The straps will be used to tie down two kayaks on top of a Thule Xsporter rack that I have attached to a utility trailer. The space under the rack will be used to carry camping gear.
Very happy that etrailer has parts for Yakima racks. My assorted watercraft can now be taken on the Hiway without worrying about them flying off. Stellar customer service!
Bought these to replace the same thing, that I've had for close to 10 years! I love the padded buckles. They make strapping my kayak to my car easy - no worries about damage to the car or boat when I toss the straps around as I'm getting the kayak secured.
I have a 90 Honda Civic Hatch and the Yakima rack system is great(Q Towers, clips, bars and fairing. No problems so far.
Great straps. Expensive but worth it for the rubber cover that doesn't need to be messed with to work the can buckle. Can be thrown around the roof of the car without scratching.
I am very happy with my purchase. Etrailer was fast getting them to me. The quality of the product is good and I will be able to replace my first pair of tie downs. Thank you!!!!
Great shopping experience.
Exactly what I needed. Not the first time I ordered from etrailer to get harder to find replacement parts for my Yakima equipment. Delivered very fast.
These are top of the line. I looked at other products that were basically knock-offs of this strap, but decided to go with the original after reading cautionary reviews of the others. I have 4 other straps, like these, from 4 years ago, that still do their job and hold their load securely. I won't look elsewhere again.
Work great, as expected by any Yakima p roduct.
The straps complete the set. Now my kayaks are secured by, on and too my truck by 100% Yakima products.
great product, well written instructions, and great quality, holds the kayak securely.

Working perfect after a year. Points to consider. 1. Don’t trim the straps. Working with the long loop makes the job easier. 2. Mark one side of the entire length of each strap with a silver sharpie by making dashes. These marks will help when there is a twist in the strap and you want to reorient after the strap is partially installed.
