Video Transcript for RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Roof Bike Rack for Fat Bikes Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at Rocky Mounts BrassKnuckles Roof Bike Rack for Fat Bikes. It's available in red with part number RKY1202-FB. Also available in white, part number RKY1203-FB. Finally, in black, part number RKY1201-FB. This special edition of the Rocky Mounts BrassKnuckles allows you to carry one fat tire bike on the roof of your vehicle. The included adapter will allow it to work with standard road and mountain bikes as well. It's a sleek design that has no frame contact with your bike.

It secures our bike in 4 spots. We have this large wheel hook going over our front wheel, and then a wheel stop to keep our tire from moving back, and then a front and rear wheel strap. It's going to fit most cross bars, including your round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems, as well. I've gone ahead and removed the bike so we can go over some additional features. When not in use, the bike rack's wheel stop and the wheel hook fold flat. This helps with its streamlined, low profile design to minimize wind noise.

The 64 inch long tubular wheel tray is going to accommodate a wide variety of wheel bases. Our ratcheting, rubber-coated wheel hook, wheel stop, and straps are designed to work with fat tires up to 5 inches wide. The ergonomic handle makes our wheel hook easy to operate. It's made out of a lightweight aluminum construction that's powder-coated, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. All of the hardware you need to get it installed is included. It has a weight capacity of 45 pounds and offers a limited lifetime warranty. If you'd like to pick up some lock cores, they're sold separately with part number RKY0332.

Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. We need to be sure we have a cross bar spread between 24 and 43 inches. We've got about 28 here today, so we should be okay. Let's go ahead and set it in place in the general area that we want it. We're going to set it closest to this side, so we can easily get it on and off.

Once we've got it in the place that we want it, we'll need to make sure that our rubber straps here in the front go underneath our cross bar. Then, to get them around, we'll need to hook them back into itself, right in here. You make sure that they're undone and loose enough to go around the cross bar and then we can hook it back into itself. Now to tighten it up, we need to remove the cap on top here. You can just set that aside. We'll take our included tool and we're going to tighten down this bolt right here. To tighten it down, we're just going to turn it clockwise, and what that's doing is it's tightening the straps up underneath, around our cross bar. Then once we get that nice and tight, we can then replace our cap. Point it down first, then snap it back in. Just like that. For our rear clamp, we need to get that around our rear cross bar. I'm just going to take out one side here, then lift it up slightly, then move the whole clamp forward. Once we get that centered up, rotate the clamp back around, reinsert our hardware and tighten it down with our included tool. There we go. Now let's get ready to load up our bike. First, let's go ahead and undo our front and rear straps. Then we can raise up our hook. Want to make sure that it's all the way up and out of the way. Then finally, we're going to raise our wheel stop up in place. Now let's grab our bike. For loading up your bike, if you need to, it's not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands. I'll load it up and I'll set the front tire in place first. What we want to do is, we want to be sure to bring the front tire back into the wheel stop. We'll bring it back like so. We can then raise up our hook. We want it right in front of our brakes or our fork, whatever comes first. Then we'll bring it down and pull it nice and tight. Now we can do our wheel straps. We'll start with our front wheel strap first, and we want that to go over the center of our tire and wheel, so we can adjust them along the platform as needed. Now they adjust independently, so once you do one side, you'll have to do the other side so it matches up. Then we'll just bring it through, and pull it nice and tight. It's the same thing for the rear wheel strap, and I'd just like to point out that because you can adjust them independently, we can slide them all the way along the platform, even over our clamps. We don't have to worry about that. Let's get them lined up, and then put our strap through. We can also adjust the ratchet here. I'd like it to sit flat on my wheel. We'll bring it down through, so it sits like that. With our bike all loaded up, let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side to side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then finally onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Rocky Mounts BrassKnuckles Roof Bike Rack for Fat Bikes.

The people at etrailer are excellent in communicating and following up. The Rocky Mount BrassKnuckles Roof Rack for Fat Bikes is well designed and came with comprehensive instructions. It fit my Thule aero blade racks wonderfully. My Motobecane Sturgis now sits proudly on my Volvo wagon. I have driven up to 60 MPH with my bike on the roof with no drama what so ever. 401344

Excellent bike holder, as advertised! I had done a lot of research to find a good "tires on" fat tire roof rack, and all roads led back to this one. Haven't had it long, but it's obviously rock solid, and will no doubt handle my fattie addiction for many years to come. It helped that etrailer has nice videos of all their features. helped me decide between this rack and the Tomahawk, which was a bit cheaper. Understanding that this one is easier to take off and move, and that it sits about an inch lower when not is use, sold me on going for the Brass Knuckles. 472677

I have a 29er Plus wheeled bike and needed to find a solid and secure roof rack to haul my rig to trails. I read reviews and settled on the RockyMounts BrassKnuckle roof rack. Mounting the rack to my Thule Aerobars was easy as could be with the simple instructions, tools, and hardware provided. Great rack and great service as I have learned to rely on from etrailer. Thank you. 457166

I put in an order for a bike rack on Sunday that I needed for the following weekend. Shortly after the order was placed I was notified that the rack was in transit from the manufacturer and wouldn't ship to me for about a week. I notified etrailer support immediately to see if I could cancel or if there were any options. George from support responded within two hours and notified me that they had a task heading my way and that it would be here in two days. Then again in the morning Chris from support confirmed the same. The turnaround and responsiveness to my issue were fantastic and I really appreciate the great work done by George, Chris and the entire etrailer team. Thanks! 432143

I purchases and have been using a Brassknuckles with my fat bike for a few months now and have been completely satisfied with the ease of use. I have it mounted on an aftermarket roof rack on top of my Chevy Cruze. Liked it so much I just purchased a second Brassknuckles rack so I can drive when riding with a buddy. 374986

Review from a similar RockyMounts BrassKnuckles in Roof Bike Racks

We had been struggling to find a way to haul our children's 20" wheel bikes when we go camping with our pop up camper. The popup camper we have has a tent top vs. fiberglass (Livin' Lite Quicksilver), so we could not mount rails on a top like some pop up campers do. We had tried using a bumper mount hitch for our pop up and using a hitch rack, but that put the weight distribution all out of wack. I had not considered using a roof rack given that I was not aware of the ones you could stand the bikes up and not remove the front tire. I also was not aware you could put kids 20" bikes up there. After slowly learning there were racks I could do this with I landed on the RockyMounts racks. I spoke to the manufacturer in Boulder and I was considering the Tomahawk model, but then I saw etrailer had the heavier duty Brass Knuckles model for 2 prices. One was the model for Fat Bikes and the other was not. I was confused why this model (for Fat Bikes) was less expensive and basically its an inventory thing at etrailer where they've put the adapter in the package vs. selling it separately. They are closing out the ones including the larger bracket and moving to having folks buy the fat tire bracket separately. I now have a Fat tire bracket if I ever get one of those bikes. The racks come with the narrower bracket installed though so certainly buy the fat tire version in any case as its less expensive. I also needed two racks and I was anticipating having to reverse the front tire ratchet bar for the drivers side, but to my amazement when I received the two in UPS there was a passenger side as well as one for the driver's side already with the ratchet bar on the drivers side as well! I don't know if they do this at etrailer in the warehouse as a good gesture when customers buy two of them or not. In any case it was nice not to have to have to do that step as we were going camping the same day. The kids bikes rode well on the roof of the 2013 Subaru Outback-I heard no rattles or wind noise problems. I'd recommend these racks to anyone trying to haul kids bikes as well as 29'rs, or conventional mountain bikes with standard tires! Really nice product and Michelle S was super amazing to get these racks out so we had them for our camping trip! 438844

Excellent quality product. This is my 2nd Rocky Mounts rack purchase, and I will continue to purchase their brand in the future. This rack works perfectly for my hardtail mountain bike. Keeps the bike secure and stable at both high and low speeds. Would highly recommend to anyone. 315112

Great service as usual from etrailer. Was a little disappointed with the rack, that it didn't come with the locks, can be ordered separate or transferred over. They could've suggested it in check out to buy "Rockymounts" could've just charged the couple of extra dollars and made the point moot. Still happy with the service. Thanks 561559

I am very satisfied with the two RockyMounts BrassKnuckle racks I purchased from etrailer.com! Shipped quickly without damage. Easy to mount on crossbars, function as expected, fit and finish is top notch. Note - I ordered the optional lock cores however the rack shipped with lock cores installed. Not an issue and I will return the extras that I ordered. I recommend checking if the lock cores are required before ordering separately. 166438
