Butyl tape is an essential tool for weatherproofing marine and RV components. This sturdy material creates a long-lasting, weatherproof gasket to fill gaps between your RV's outer hull and the mounting points for vents, windows, and doors.

Features:

  • Butyl tape functions as a gasket for a weatherproof seal when mounting RV or marine components
    • Sticks to the underside of mounting brackets and installation points before pressing into place on your RV or boat
    • Provides for greater protection from the elements than using sealant alone
    • Prevents the intrusion of moisture into nail or screw holes
  • Adhesive works on most nonporous materials including roofing membranes and metal
    • Won't crack, harden, or shrink
    • Can be applied in temperatures from -5 degrees F to 120 degrees F
  • Easy to use - press tape firmly to first surface, remove backing, and then press onto second surface for an even seal
    • Applies best to clean and dry surfaces
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 1 roll
  • Dimensions: 20' long x 1" wide x 3/16" thick
  • Application temperature range: -5 F - 120 F
  • Colors may vary
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Butyl tape is used primarily as a gasket for preventing moisture from leaking into your RV around cutouts in the hull for vents, doors, windows, and wiring outlets. Butyl tape is widely used by RV manufacturers because of its high performance and durability. It does not dry out and crack over time, and its strong adhesive quality means it sticks and stays in place on smooth surfaces.

Butyl tape is most often used in conjunction with sealants to create the highest level of weatherproofing to prevent leaks and ongoing damage. It's ideal for use in areas where fixtures need to be drilled, nailed or bolted into place. The rubbery material keeps those openings sealed and free from water damage. While this is great for those who do their own repairs and upgrades, butyl tape is also good to have on hand to make temporary repairs. The tacky material can plug up any problem areas and hold strong, so you don't have to cut your trip short.

Love to hear it, Mark! What kind of install are you going to be use the tape with?

by:

Used it under brackets to seal screw holes through the roof when installing a solar panel on our trailer. Does what it is supposed to do. Comes in a 20' roll where we only needed about 8" of it. Oh well, now we have plenty if there is further need for weatherproofing.

by:

The butyl tape that was placed inside the maxxair air fan box was in poor condition. Looked as if it had been crushed and no longer in a round shape as advertised pictures displayed. Still usable but should have been packaged more appropriately

I will certainly let our shipping department know how the butyl tape arrived. I know that it is still usable however we will be in contact with you to see if you want to have it replaced. Thank you for letting us know.

by:

Overall it was good. The only issue was the shipping. I paid for 3 to 5 day shipping and according to your tracker it wasn't Evan pulled from the shelves till after 5 days of the order and I received the order 5 days after that. One on the items in the shipment was stuck to the box and needed a little protection. (pic included)

Seal is watertight and secure after a lot of miles of travel.

by:

Used this tape on some replacement skylights. It’s a little tricky to get on as it is not rigid. I found cutting to length prior to applying worked best for me. I found that in the end it was very forgiving.

by:

The butyltape was not packaged very well The tape stuck to the paper stuffed in the box Just became a big mess

I used this butyl tape for marine application. It's butyl tape plain and simple. Seals deck and port light fittings as expected. Fair price for the product.

by:

I changed out the OEM bathroom fan with a Maxxair variable speed fan and used this tape for sealing the surface on the roof. It worked wonderfully!

Easy to use, I put in a new roof vent and fan. Still sealing and no leaks.

by:

I used this butyl tape to seal a new water heater into the side of our camper. Worked great! Very satisfied with this purchase and recommend it - seals very well.

by:

Worked great to seal around my tankless water heater install on 2 different RV units.

by:

I ordered this to use for the installation of a MaxxAir fan in a campervan conversion. I have not had a chance to use it yet, but it has the qualities I was looking for: a substantial density, but pliable and compressible to fill in all of the spaces between the flange and the roof of the van. I found there were very few options for a sealing tape that was 1" wide to cover the full width of the flange. It is sticky on both sides and should do a great job for this purpose. I was influenced in my purchase by the fact that it is made by a well established company in the USA that specializes in such products.

by:

Excellent product, easy to work with, fair price!

Perfect for forestall of new ladder.

Sealant tape has held up extremely well

by:

Did not come with the slide topper. When I called in was told it is backorder for 29 days.

by:

There has to be a better way of packaging and shipping the butyl tape. Now it's not a uniform width or thickness. Hopefully I can still make it work for me.

  • Recommended Tankless Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E RV Water Heater
Hi Wes, All newer water heater models are transitioning to smaller sizes as the technology gets better so you'll likely have a gap regardless of which unit you choose to go with. There's typically framing around the water heater so you'll just need to add in some 2" x 2" boards to fill in the gap and give the mounting flange of the new unit something to grab onto when mounting. I've attached a video below where Jake had to do this in order to install the # FR93FR. These units come with...

  • Parts Needed to Install Solar on 2016 Jayco Pinnacle 5th Wheel
Hey Paul; the answer to your question depends on what you want to do exactly. It also depends on what your trailer already has on it. I'm going to assume the 2016 Jayco Pinnacle you put in our fitguide is the trailer you have. I'm also going to operate off of the assumption that it has the solar prep in place. If it doesn't, you will need additional wires to run to everything. If you just want to charge the batteries you will need your 200W solar panel # 34282182 and feet # 34272708 and...

  • Will The Furrion Tankless Water Heater Be A Good Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E
The Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR48SR would be the correct choice to replace your Atwood GC6AA-10E in terms of size. The unit has a depth of 19-1/4" so you'd have about 3/4" for your water and gas hookups, so you might need to change out your fittings to ones with a 90 degree bend in order to get them in place. These units require both propane and 12v DC power in order to operate. The propane fuels the heat and the 12v powers the electronics that control the heat output. You power...

  • Recommended Replacement For A Suburban SW6 DE RV Water Heater
Hi Michael, To replace your Suburban SW6 DE water heater you'll want the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR. This tankless water heater is one of the most efficient units on the market, producing up 144 gallons of hot water per hour. The dimensions I'm seeing for your Suburban show it being roughly 12-3/4" tall by 12-3/4" wide so the # FR98SR with its 16" x 16" door would be a great fit. During the installation you're going to want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the back...

  • Recommended Butyl Tape And Sealant For Installing A MaxxAir RV Roof Vent
I recommend the Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing # AL28FJ as it's 1" wide to fully cover the flange of your vent. Make sure you overlap the ends to form a tight waterproof seal. You can see me doing this at 2:50 mark in the attached video below. As for the sealant, I recommend the Alpha Systems 1021 Self-Leveling Sealant for RVs # AL98KV. One tube of this will be enough to fully cover the screws and layer it down to the roof to ensure you don't have a water leak.

  • Troubleshooting A Leaking MaxxAir MaxxFan In A 2021 Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite Travel Trailer
The inner shroud of the vent is for looks only so it's very concerning that you're getting water through the cracks in it from overtightening the mounting screws. This would be an indication that you have a leak originating somewhere up on the roof. This is typically caused by a damaged lid or poor sealing job when installing the vent. If the lid is the issue then I would need to know the specific model to find the correct replacement lid. There's also covers like the # MA86JR that can...

Hello James, I am very sorry to hear that your trailer was damaged by the hurricane, I hope there is not too much other damage that needs repairing. Glad you are OK and able to write in. For sealing the new metal panel to your cargo trailer’s roof, I’d recommend using butyl tape # AL28FJ between the new and old metal surfaces before riveting.
