Video Transcript for Curt RV Bumper 2 inch Trailer Hitch Review

Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Curt 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening, made to fit on the back side of your campers. Now this is going to add a lot of versatility to your camper. As you can see, we've added an RV approved bike rack, but also RV approved cargo carriers are something you can stick back there. It offers a 350 lb tongue weight rating and a 3500 lb gross trailer weight rating, so even small utility trailers, small boats, things like that, are something we can add on here to the back to get them down the road with us safely. Now these are available in two different configurations. The one we're using here is for the four inch by four inch bumper beam. But these are also available for the two inch by four inch bumper beams.

So just be sure you get the right part number.Installation's really quite simple, just slide it up around your bumper. Place in your two carriage bolts, and secure those down. Really quick and easy way to add, like we said before, a lot of utility to your trailer, and get your stuff where you need it.You can see our pin hole here, this is gonna be 5/8 of and inch in diameter, it's gonna use a standard class three pin and clip, and we can also thread in anti-rattle devices, you can see the bike rack here, anti-rattle device there. It's a little bit tight to get in there, you can see how your pin has a little bit of interference, but overall it's gonna be something that's nice and easy to use.The two inch by two inch receiver tube opening is gonna make it compatible with just about any type of class three accessory. Do keep in mind though, your cargo carriers and bike racks, you wanna be sure those are RV approved.

Which generally means they don't have a tilting or a folding function. Now these RV hitches from Curt are really some of the most popular ones that we sell. I think especially with this one, the four inch by four inch version, with that higher tongue weight and gross trailer weight capacity than what we see out of some of the other ones, this is gonna lend itself towards that trailering for sure.A lot of the other ones, or at least some of the other ones that are on offer are gonna be limited to just bike racks or just cargo carriers. Not really rated for towing. So if towing is something you're looking for, this is gonna be an excellent choice. But also to add some more storage space back here with cargo carriers or with bike racks, it's gonna come in really handy. Now a couple of measurements that'll be helpful for you, just to ensure that this is gonna work out properly for your application. From the bottom of our bumper to the bottom of our hitch, it's about 2 3/4 of an inch, so our ground clearance in the rear will be lowered by that.

Then from the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of our bumper, it's about 3/4 of and inch all the way to the end of the receiver tube, we're looking at about 2 1/4.Now this hitch does not have a weight distribution rating, so with that being said, Curt does recommend the use of a stabilization strap anytime we're using something that would be considered a non-wheeled load. Something like a bike rack, cargo carrier or something other than a trailer. To begin our installation process, we're gonna take our hitch, and we're also gonna find the center point of the rear bumper of our RV here. Or our camper trailer.Once we've found that we want to slide the Curt hitch up. It's gonna be a snug fit. So we're gonna use our dead blow to get it in place.

Once that's up in position, we just want to ensure that the center point of the hitch is lined up to the center point of our bumper. We can slide through our half inch carriage bolts, then we'll put our flange nuts on the backside. And we're gonna snug these up. Once we've got them snug, we'll torque them to the specifications listed in our instructions. We're gonna use a 3/4 inch or 19mm to get the job done. That's gonna complete our look at the Curt line of camper bumper mount hitches.

Key note that it is solid bottom and 2 bolts pinch it closed at the top. 362773

A quality bit of kit. My only problem is the burly box steel bumper on my 1990 LJ78 Land Cruiser is 2" X 4 1/8", apparently, not 2" X 4". So the nice bolts and nuts included in the package don't quite go through the holes at the top. I had to substitute thinner eye bolts. I'm pulling a very light canoe trailer with this, so I'm not worried about the loss in strength. If you have a real cross frame member for a bumper, as I do this is an inexpensive light towing solution. I would have rated it excellent if the bolt holes were somehow adjustable up and down. 196623

Very nice specialty receiver for 2" Reese Hitch. Fits on 4" x 2" bumper stock - dimensions are spot on. Finish on surface and edges is smooth...nothing to catch or "bite" during installation! Thank you 196812

Just received this product, so haven't really used it yet. But wow, it is really built well. I looked at numerous similar products, and am really happy with my choice. Should give us years of great service. May be overkill for a bike rack on the back of our Takena Trailer, but will most assuredly give us peace of mind on our long road trips. 317932

Ask the Experts about this Curt RV and Camper Hitch

Do you have a question about this RV and Camper Hitch?

  • Correct Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch for I-Beam Frame That is 69 Inches Wide
  • The Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 68-1/2" Wide # C13704 is for frames that are a maximum of 68-1/2" wide so it is not the correct hitch for your 69" wide I-beam frame. For a frame of that width you would need the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703 though it has different brackets, and I've added a photo of their dimensions for you to take a look at. These brackets can be flipped (on both hitches) without issue. If that...

Generally, Frame-mount hitches like the Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver, Item # C13701, offer higher capacity than the bumper-mount variety like the Curt RV Bumper Hitch, # C19101. The Curt Adjustable Trailer Hitch Receiver has a Class III rating and can be bolted or welded on. It works with frames with a minimum width...

The 2 inch hitch receiver will work well to carry RV approved accessories. This hitch will fit trailers with frames from 47 inches - 71 inches wide. It is a good idea to measure your trailer's frame to ensure this hitch will fit. Another option is the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13703. This hitch is designed to fit trailers...

Examples of both types are parts # C19101 which fits 4 x 2-inch bumpers (as long as they are NOT a C-channel type) and # UF35-946403 which fits trailer frames between 47-1/8- and 77-inches wide (measured outside edge to outside edge). They cannot be used on spot-welded or aluminum bumpers. Part # C19101 from Curt is one example. • Availability of Trailer Hitch to Fit Bumper of 2016 1706 Viking
  • Go look at the bumper you have at the rear of your 2016 1706 Viking. What are the dimensions of it? Is the bumper welded all the way around or is there an open side? If there is an open side you have a C-channel bumper which the # C19101 would not fit. It would need to be a 2 inch wide by 4 inch tall continuously welded bumper for this hitch to fit. If instead it is 4 inch by 4 inch you would want the part # E-100.

You would have to access the metal bumper beam which would require removal of the rear fascia. Then once you get that removed it is possible, even likely, that the hitch will not fit. Since it hasn't been tested for the use you are proposing, the weight capacity would be completely unknown, which is why Curt doesn't recommend it. • Difference Between Curt RV Bumper Hitches 19101 and 19100

The 19100 # E-100 is designed to fit a 4 inch square bumper and the # C19101 on the other hand is designed to fit a 2 inch by 4 inch bumper instead. Basically you'd need to measure the dimensions of your bumper to know which you would need. Most likely it's a 4 inch square bumper though as that is the most common size.
