Video Transcript for Curt RV Bumper 2 inch Trailer Hitch Review

Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Curt 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening, made to fit on the back side of your campers. Now this is going to add a lot of versatility to your camper. As you can see, we've added an RV approved bike rack, but also RV approved cargo carriers are something you can stick back there. It offers a 350 lb tongue weight rating and a 3500 lb gross trailer weight rating, so even small utility trailers, small boats, things like that, are something we can add on here to the back to get them down the road with us safely. Now these are available in two different configurations. The one we're using here is for the four inch by four inch bumper beam. But these are also available for the two inch by four inch bumper beams.

So just be sure you get the right part number.Installation's really quite simple, just slide it up around your bumper. Place in your two carriage bolts, and secure those down. Really quick and easy way to add, like we said before, a lot of utility to your trailer, and get your stuff where you need it.You can see our pin hole here, this is gonna be 5/8 of and inch in diameter, it's gonna use a standard class three pin and clip, and we can also thread in anti-rattle devices, you can see the bike rack here, anti-rattle device there. It's a little bit tight to get in there, you can see how your pin has a little bit of interference, but overall it's gonna be something that's nice and easy to use.The two inch by two inch receiver tube opening is gonna make it compatible with just about any type of class three accessory. Do keep in mind though, your cargo carriers and bike racks, you wanna be sure those are RV approved.

Which generally means they don't have a tilting or a folding function. Now these RV hitches from Curt are really some of the most popular ones that we sell. I think especially with this one, the four inch by four inch version, with that higher tongue weight and gross trailer weight capacity than what we see out of some of the other ones, this is gonna lend itself towards that trailering for sure.A lot of the other ones, or at least some of the other ones that are on offer are gonna be limited to just bike racks or just cargo carriers. Not really rated for towing. So if towing is something you're looking for, this is gonna be an excellent choice. But also to add some more storage space back here with cargo carriers or with bike racks, it's gonna come in really handy. Now a couple of measurements that'll be helpful for you, just to ensure that this is gonna work out properly for your application. From the bottom of our bumper to the bottom of our hitch, it's about 2 3/4 of an inch, so our ground clearance in the rear will be lowered by that.

Then from the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of our bumper, it's about 3/4 of and inch all the way to the end of the receiver tube, we're looking at about 2 1/4.Now this hitch does not have a weight distribution rating, so with that being said, Curt does recommend the use of a stabilization strap anytime we're using something that would be considered a non-wheeled load. Something like a bike rack, cargo carrier or something other than a trailer. To begin our installation process, we're gonna take our hitch, and we're also gonna find the center point of the rear bumper of our RV here. Or our camper trailer.Once we've found that we want to slide the Curt hitch up. It's gonna be a snug fit. So we're gonna use our dead blow to get it in place.

Once that's up in position, we just want to ensure that the center point of the hitch is lined up to the center point of our bumper. We can slide through our half inch carriage bolts, then we'll put our flange nuts on the backside. And we're gonna snug these up. Once we've got them snug, we'll torque them to the specifications listed in our instructions. We're gonna use a 3/4 inch or 19mm to get the job done. That's gonna complete our look at the Curt line of camper bumper mount hitches.

Key note that it is solid bottom and 2 bolts pinch it closed at the top. 362773

A quality bit of kit. My only problem is the burly box steel bumper on my 1990 LJ78 Land Cruiser is 2" X 4 1/8", apparently, not 2" X 4". So the nice bolts and nuts included in the package don't quite go through the holes at the top. I had to substitute thinner eye bolts. I'm pulling a very light canoe trailer with this, so I'm not worried about the loss in strength. If you have a real cross frame member for a bumper, as I do this is an inexpensive light towing solution. I would have rated it excellent if the bolt holes were somehow adjustable up and down. 196623

Very nice specialty receiver for 2" Reese Hitch. Fits on 4" x 2" bumper stock - dimensions are spot on. Finish on surface and edges is smooth...nothing to catch or "bite" during installation! Thank you 196812

Just received this product, so haven't really used it yet. But wow, it is really built well. I looked at numerous similar products, and am really happy with my choice. Should give us years of great service. May be overkill for a bike rack on the back of our Takena Trailer, but will most assuredly give us peace of mind on our long road trips. 317932

Wrong product - and no help from etrailer.com in rectifying the situation! I don't think anyone could use this product, and it's not clear enough in the information that it's for a tiny bumper - not a regular RV bumper. 133861

  • Frame Mount Trailer Hitch Option for 2016 Keystone Passport 199ML to Carry Bike Rack
I recommend going with an RV trailer hitch that will mount to the trailer frame, like the Hidden Hitch Multi-fit Moto Home Trailer Hitch # 88201. The 2 inch hitch receiver will work well to carry RV approved accessories. This hitch will fit trailers with frames from 47 inches - 71 inches wide. It is a good idea to measure your trailer's frame to ensure this hitch will fit. Another option is the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13703. This hitch is designed to fit trailers...

  • Recommended RV Hitch and RV Hitch Bike Racks
We offer hitch receivers for use on RVs that you can see on the linked page. Both bumper-mount and frame-mount type hitches are made and it will be a good idea to check with your trailer's manufacturer to confirm which type is best for your particular RV. Examples of both types are parts # C19101 which fits 4 x 2-inch bumpers (as long as they are NOT a C-channel type) and # UF35-946403 which fits trailer frames between 47-1/8- and 77-inches wide (measured outside edge to outside edge). • Trailer Hitch Options for a Casita Travel Trailer
I did some research on the Casita travel trailers and after speaking with Casita, I found that the bumper on the Casita travel trailers were not designed to support any additional weight due to its construction. They also said they do not recommend mounting a hitch or any other type of accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier on the bumper. One option that may work for you is a frame mount trailer hitch such as the Curt Adjustable Width Hitch, # 13703. This is a universal RV style...

  • Recommendation For RV Rated Bike Racks For 6 Bikes On 2016 Palomino Solaire 267bhse
For a bike rack on your 2016 Palomino Solaire 267BHSE, I recommend the Swagman 4 Bike Carrier RV Mounted Bike Rack # S80600. I recommend using tie-downs like # 05605 to secure your bikes in place and # e98891 cable lock to deter theft. There is not a 6 bike RV carrier available, so I recommend using a second rack and putting it in a separate location. Because you have an A-frame trailer, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2007 Saturn Vue
Actually, if you were to try to install Curt hitch # C19101 it would require a lot more work than the custom fit hitches for your 2007 Saturn Vue. You would have to access the metal bumper beam which would require removal of the rear fascia. Then once you get that removed it is possible, even likely, that the hitch will not fit. Installation of a custom hitch such as # 13591 is much easier as you can see in the video I have linked showing an example installation. I have also included...

  • Using Curt # C19101 RV Bumper Hitch on 2002 Colemen Pop-Up w/ C-Channel Bumper
According to my Curt Representative, their # C19101 has not been tested on a C-channel bumper. When they tested it on a tube bumper, it was found to have a 3500 towing 350 lb tongue weight capacity. Since it hasn't been tested for the use you are proposing, the weight capacity would be completely unknown, which is why Curt doesn't recommend it. Depending on how far apart the frame members of the pop-up are, measured outside to outside, you might be able to use a multi-fit hitch like...

  • Availability of Trailer Hitch to Fit Bumper of 2016 1706 Viking
Go look at the bumper you have at the rear of your 2016 1706 Viking. What are the dimensions of it? Is the bumper welded all the way around or is there an open side? If there is an open side you have a C-channel bumper which the # C19101 would not fit. It would need to be a 2 inch wide by 4 inch tall continuously welded bumper for this hitch to fit. If instead it is 4 inch by 4 inch you would want the part # E-100.

  • RV-Rated 3-Bike Rack & Hitch for 2016 Coachman Clipper Pop Up Camper Trailer
Curt RV hitches # C19101 and # E-100 will not work on a C-channel bumper so you may want to consider a frame-mounted RV hitch like # 13703 or one of the others shown on the linked page. These have a 2-inch receiver opening for your bike rack or other RV-rated accessory and the various model fits varying frame widths; some are bolt-on while others are weld-on products. • Difference Between Curt RV Bumper Hitches 19101 and 19100
The difference between the two hitches is the size bumper they are designed to fit. The 19100 # E-100 is designed to fit a 4 inch square bumper and the # C19101 on the other hand is designed to fit a 2 inch by 4 inch bumper instead. Basically you'd need to measure the dimensions of your bumper to know which you would need. Most likely it's a 4 inch square bumper though as that is the most common size.

We have a few different options for trailer hitches that are designed for use with trailers like your Cruiser RV Viewfinder. The Curt RV Bumper 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver # E-100 is intended for use on 4 inch square channel bumpers. If that is what your trailer has, this will be a great option. It has a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds and a gross towing weight of 3,500 pounds. The similar Curt RV Bumper Hitch # C19101 can be used if your trailer has a 2 inch x 4 inch rear bumper....

I do not recommend drilling into the bumper to accommodate the mounting holes for part # C19101. The capacities of the hitch will stay the same and you can gain more ground clearance for your cargo carrier (which can be a big deal at the back of RVs and trailers).
